QC Event and Wedding Planning in Etobicoke, Ontario 16 months ago |
Hi there, QC Event and Wedding Planning has been providing quality distance education courses for over 25 years now, and we truly do take pride in the caliber of courses offered at our school. I am positive that after perusing our website at www.qceventplanning.com, checking out our Facebook page at QC Event Planning, and contacting our friendly student support staff at the toll-free number listed on our website you will find that our school truly is like no other. In regards to the “easy” aspect of our course - what we are referring to is the way the course is set up, not the detailed course material content itself. I assure you that at QC, we take you through the exciting world of event planning in a step-by-step manner, and present the challenging course work to you in an easy-to-navigate way. The course itself is comprised of a beautiful set of full color texts, instructional DVDs and CDs, supplementary reading material and assignment booklets – all of which are thoroughly organized and cover everything you need to know to succeed as an IEWP (International Event and Wedding Planning Professional). The best aspect of the entire QC experience is the personal one-on-one support you receive when you enroll! We truly are here for you every step of the way – and many of our students still keep in touch with us after they’ve graduated and started their own successful businesses. For more information on what our past students are up to now, check out the Spotlight tab on our Facebook page. I hope that you’ve found my post informative and helpful. I truly do look forward to reading your valuable questions and concerns, and hope to someday welcome you to the school. Have yourselves a wonderful day! Best Wishes,

QC Event and Wedding Planning in Etobicoke, Ontario said: Here's the thing Julie, I've looked at QC before about 2 years ago. And it still came in second. Your courses lacked some information that I thought was important for event planners to know, like working hands on or dealing with real situations. Virtual or real life internships are key for that. But I think what bothers me most is trying to snag people based on how "beautiful" a text or DVD is. I'm not paying upwards of $1000 for a full color text. I've paid less for university courses with full colored texts and 6 hours a week of in-class time. I don't understand the high price when there are others out there who have more budget friendly options, especially since it sounds like some of them may actually be worth paying attention to. Plus I find it frustrating that the payment options are so restricted. TBC... |
|
Doodlebabe in Albany, Oregon 16 months ago |
Continuing... I may not be able to pay in full but what if I'm able to make a down payment of a couple hundred dollars? Why should I be restricted to making payments of so much a month and getting stuck with a higher bill? Yes, you do have options and that's great but not everyone fits in the same boat. I've been on the website and have the brochure. They're nice, look professional, and I honestly don't think you're a scam or anything. Your course work probably fits quite a few people fine. I've been on the Facebook page and have looked at people who are on there who don't have privacy blocks. I only found one who's actually working in the event planning industry. That doesn't say much for QC now does it? Ultimately, I don't want to pay a ton of money that I won't be able to get financial aid, job placement, or even internship placement help with when I can get the same quality coursework for less. It just doesn't make sense fiscally. If I end up at QC it's going to be because I find out the others are a scam (so far, everything seems fine), they don't offer as much as QC (again, so far all is well), or the price gets raised higher than QC (doesn't look like that's going to happen anytime soon). The same goes for Sheffield and WPI. High prices when I can get the same for less? Forget it. I'd like to see all these schools give more information or let the students talk instead of having text from the websites and brochures repeated multiple times. If I wanted to read it I'd go to the website myself (which I have, thank you very much). Let me get real opinions from people that probably aren't getting paid to say good things please. |

Hi there, We do try to keep the fees as low as possible, but I know that the price is substantial. Please note that we never pay, or even ask, people to say "good things" about us, as you suspect. The many very happy comments posted by students at this site, and others are all made entirely freely. For security, people don't generally allow full access to their Facebook pages, but you'll see many of our students who are working happily in the field who have posted at the School's page. You must, naturally, choose the course that seems a good fit for you. I hope you'll enjoy whichever program you choose. Best of luck with your future endeavors, Julie Saunders |

Julie, I never implied that you pay people. I'm saying that YOU are paid as you work for the school. Thus I'd like to hear a student, who does NOT work for the school. I'm fully aware of Facebook safety features, I use them myself. Again, I was not implying that people don't want to share their success or anything, I was just saying that I'm having a hard time finding students, others than those advertised on your websites, who have found success in event planning after taking your course. Could you please explain why your fees are so high? I would be just as happy with a black and white text as I would a full color one. That would cut down on the cost. Podcasts as opposed to DVDs would also help cut down since all you'd need for those are the production costs and students could simply log-in as opposed to paying for multiple dvds to be burned. I want to know that if I'm paying top dollar I'm getting something above the rest as far as education goes. |

For the person that wanted to hear from a "student" from QC, I am a current student of QC Wedding Planning and am enjoying it very much. I am very happy with how thought provoking the assignments are and feel I have learned so much already. I have turned in Units A & B so far and can't wait to work on more. And with the support they give me as a student I feel the price was well worth it. I would do it all again and may add the event part of the course in the future. I hope this helps :) |

Doodlebabe, After going back and reading some of your comments I must ask, Do you plan on being a good event/wedding planner with a valuable service? If so, are you going to keep your prices extremely cheap or keep them at a rate close to the competition (so as not to look like your desperate or inexperienced)? Do you want your potential clients to look solely at your price tag or see the high value of your service?

DoodleBug Hi if you want a school with a geat payment plan and cheap tuition cost but loaded with information check out Weddings Beautiful Worldwide. As soon as you pay for the first cours you can download it right away and then pay for each course as you go along and then download it. The price is great and it is over 600 pages of information plus usefull worksheets you can use in your business plus they give you brochures and a newletter you can give to your clients. They also send you about 12 wedding photos that you can post on your website. They have their own Bridal Association and stay with you the whole time your doing the course AND after. If you have a client ask a question you don't know the answer to and you tell them you will get back to them you can call Weddings Beautiful to get help with anything or any client. There are many other benefits with this school and I am enjoying it very much. They may not have an internship but the questions in the assignments are set up as if you were helping a client. You don't have to pay big bucks to get what you need. I know I've taken two courses both came to $1,ooo total and I learned tons and got plenty of benifits including those that will assist me with setting up my business. Good luck evryone with your choices. |

Do you want your potential clients to look solely at your price tag or see the high value of your service? Considering who I'm marketing to my prices will be at mid point, due to the massive amounts of college students in my area. There really isn't a lot of competition here, I've Googled and looked in phone books and so far I've only found three or four event planners, one of which doesn't do weddings so if I focus only on weddings (don't intend to, but for the sake of argument) that's one less person to compete with. None of them have anything on their websites about training at all. They speak of having "years of experience" but don't have anything to back that up with like client testimonials or a portfolio. Just looking at their websites you can tell about half of them are doing this more as a part-time hobby, not a full time job. So it's clear to me that I'm able to get certified without putting a ton of money into it. Why pay in top dollar for a brand new Mercedes Benz at dealership X when dealership Y is selling the same care for $20,000 cheaper and is giving you the exact same options as the other one? Doesn't make much sense, does it? Yes, I want a quality education but considering I can't find proof as to why QC, Sheffield, and WPI are so much better that they need to charge more than Weddings Beautiful or IIW I'm sorry but I'm going to go with the cheaper option. It's a sound investment that would more than double in profits.

Ddodlebabe, That's perfect, in a concise way you just summed up your target market and pricing campaign. Whatever course you decide on remember this for when you get to the business assignments that are geared to make you think about what direction you will go. As a speaker at a recent network meet-up for wedding professionals said, it is vital to know your target market. You are a step ahead since you already know yours. There are many course choices and each student needs to pick the best one for them. They are for anyone, but not everyone can do them. In my market area and life QC works for me, but that doesn't mean its the right fit for you. I am half way done with the course and have already done a paid wedding and have 8 brides in contract so I feel the money spent was well worth it especially since I have already gotten it back plus. |

I did not like that the entire course was given to you at once with a written exam at the end. I'm currently taking a course through Weddings Beautiful and LOVE IT! There is a quiz at the end of every chapter and you pay for your courses as you go along. I interned and now with a planner who has appeared on "Whose Wedding Anyway" and have taken several event planning classes at the local colleges and no one has every heard of US Event Guide. I'm surely not saying that they are not legit but you would think out of all these planners that have been in the business for 10+ yrs someone would have recognized them. So sereach around before you take that step. I have made some costly mistake jumping at the first thing that sound or looked good. I am taking their course now and I too love it! I have three more assignments left before I am done. |

It also helped me gage my pricing. |

I do have experience from doing friends and family weddings over the years, but this is the first formal training I have taken. I was surprised how much I have been learning from this course since I felt I already knew this business. With that I have already done 1 paid wedding this year & have 8 more scheduled, all with people I did not know before nor are they connected through friends or family. So I would have to say, yes, it is worth it. |

Hi there, I have been debating on becoming a wedding and events planner for a few years now, I helped a friend of mine with her wedding in 2009 and my moms wedding in 2006 and I loved it. There is a company near me that is hiring a wedding planning intern. Does anyone think it would be benefical for me to take a wedding and events course to get this position? or at least start a course to get this position (of course i would finish it). Would it look better on my resume and cover letter? I was thinking QC, does anyone think I should take this course? Thanks in advance for answering my questions. |

Well i had an interview with a company as an internfor a wedding planner, and she doesnt want a WPIC or IEWP certified memeber because everyones styles are differnt, this being said if you are looking to do it on ur own and have no experience in the field then I think that you should take the course, and this is going by what she had said to me in the interview...... btw im awaiting my 2nd interview, sat with the owner for 1.5 hrs and she had said to me she has never sat with anyone that long before!!!!! :D |

I graduated from U.S. Event Guide and I found it one of the most difficult courses I've taken. It was thorough and demanding which helped in the learning process. Since I've taken the course and got my diplomas I have started a wedding/event planning business with the knowledge I accumulated. I have one problem, I lost my certificates when I moved. I'm trying to find the site or address of the school so I can apply for two more certificates. If you have this information I would be very appreciative of your help. Thanks so much.

Angie in Brooklyn, I often wonder why your on the "QC" conversation since I have only seen you promote other companies and knock QC. As you may recall, the "2 assignments in 1 day" were to access as to whether or not this business is for you. I was very thankful to study that right off the bat, because if I found it wasn't for me I would have returned for a refund and not wasted valuable time. As it is I have learned a lot from their program and even though I am not yet finished with the course was able to do 11 weddings this past summer as a PAID wedding consultant. Each event I received high praises from everyone involved, including the clients, their family & friends and other vendors. QC may not have been for you, but they still have a great course and anyone considering trying them out, I highly recommend to go ahead. I have NO regrets and am happy with my decision to take the QC course for wedding planning. |

Hi Stephanie, I have all but half of the last unit completed. I was so busy with events this past season that I had to put it aside for a bit. I have liked the training very much and it has been very helpful in building my knowledge and confidence as a professional in the market. My goal was to complete the course in 1 yr. Since Nov was my 1 yr mark I am running shy of that, but the experience & contacts I have gained is helping in completing these last assignments. In this "off" season I am working on 3 weddings, 1 anniversary, 1 fundraiser and my booth for an upcoming wedding show. So yes, I like and recommend QC. :) Your welcome to check out my web site at www.diligentdetails.com though I am currently revamping things and making some small changes. |

I am almost half way thru the QC Event and Wedding Courses and I find the lessons to be well laid out and progressive. I dropped out of a college event planning program for personal reasons and learned more in the first three units than I had in the college program. Yes, for me some is repeat but there is alot of material that accents what I already knew. It has given me so much confidence in my abilities that my full time employer has given me 5 events in the last 2 months to plan and execute for our department. And I received raves on them! Next one is next week...a barbeque, retirement and awards ceremony for 350 people. I highly recommend you do your research and find the right program for YOU! |

One of our students forwarded me the link to this post and I looked into why the pages may not be working for you. We recently updated our website and gave it an entire makeover - as well as introduced the Online Student Center, which is where students now submit their assignments rather than send them to the school via email. The links you may be clicking on may still be linked to the old site and would give you an error message. I've included the new links below, so please do give them a try: About QC - www.qceventplanning.com/about/
Hopefully these work for you! If they don't, it could have to do with your international IP address and your internet provider may not be connecting you through to the website. I'm not sure why this would be happening, but encourage you to send the school an email if you should encounter any more problems. Have a fantastic weekend, Lu! Katelyn

Lane in Lunenburg, Nova Scotia said: Just reviewing event planning courses now, have received information on QC, however I am concerned with the comment about finishing two assignments in two days also them saying 3 hours a week to finish in 6-8 months indicates to me that the course isnt detailed enough. Can anyone comment on how recognized this program is to future employers. For example would a hotel consider it training enough to plan conferences etc for them. I am an event and wedding planner in Ontario. I have personally never taken a course in Wedding Planning or Event Planning, however, I have over 20 years of experience in the industry and "grew up" in events & wedding planning. I run a very, very successful business in Toronto and we will soon be offering an in-class training program. So, now I will answer your question. I spoke to one of my associates for your, she is a Corporate Sales Manager of one of the busiest downtown corporate hotels in the city. She has a very lucrative income, plus she negotiated a commission for all events that she brings in the city. I am literally her secret weapon when it comes to organizing her events. So, what's her background. She has a very strong sales background, and a travel background. Her weakness was event detailing and coordination. She trained with us for 1 week and interned with us for 1 year to understand everything that we do as event coordinators. So the answer to your question is that yes, you need to get an event and wedding planning course, but your proven sales background or your education in hospitality or travel is as important specially if you do not have enough practical experience... hope that helps |

I realised how difficult is to choose a course. I'm very interested in attending an online course. I prefer to attend an American course because the origin of this job is there. I do not know which of the mentioned courses could be better for me. I looked also at wedding inc website. Who knows it?

I completely agree that if you are practicing in the USA, then you should take courses in the USA. When I teach my workshops in Toronto, I make sure that my future planners understands the marriage laws in Canada. In the US the laws are slightly different, so I think it is very important that if you can get a good school in the US, that's where you should take your course as a US planner. Good Luck |
