event planning in Las Vegas

I am a 21 year old college student, i will be done with my studies in december of 09. When i finish school i plan on moving to Las Vegas and trying to find a events planning postion. The only thing is im not sure what steps i should take on finding this postion. ive put my resume out on all career finding websites and i have done my research on different event planning companies, i just want to make sure this job search is promising for me. I am moving to Las Vegas with no family and no idea of my next move, although I work for a motel as a guest services representive and they have promised to stand behind me until i find my dream job, i need help getting a better idea of where else to start? what else to do and who else to contact?
