Britt, There were only about 50 people at my open house, and after the first cut there were approximately 22 of us left to finish out the day.

We went around the room and briefly introduced ourselves, and from that, they decided who they wanted to keep and who would be let go. Those of us who were hired were notifed within about 2 1/2 weeks.

Here's the key to making the cut. When you stand up to introduce yourself, do it in such a way that they can see that you're not afraid of speaking to a group. They're trying to get an idea of how well your do in front of people. So, don't act self-conscious or scared. Just tell your name, where you're from, an interesting fact about yourself, and why you want to be a f/a (and don't say "because I like to travel"). Say something about customer service and how you enjoy serving other peoples' needs.

You will. The only people who didn't get picked either dressed inappropriately, or didn't show any personality during the introduction. You'll do fine.

This is the first "real interview" Ive had. I mean I have had interviews but they last like 5 minutes and I've usually had some kind of in with the company, I guess that's why I'm so nervous. Ill do fine just gotta think positive. Im for sure not shy person I've been a cheerleader since I was 4 years old. Ha just gotta breathe!

Well, in that case - you've got it made. Just let them see that outgoing personality of yours. And use the words "customer service" in your intro.

LOL RJ!!!

I am positive!

Speaking of a girls best friend. Ladies...earrings...studs only!!! Small ones at that!!! Diamond, pearl, silver or gold. Necklace...plain gold or silver chain...no pendant. So why bother right? (But can be worn if hidden under the uniform..out of the eye of the customer. 2 rings max...1 on each hand...wedding ring and engagement ring if worn together count as only 1.

So keep the good stuff at home...you can almost never wear it unless its your day off.

Just an FYI

Also, make certain your shoes are polished and your hands are manicured. Employers often check out your shoes and your hands will be visible.

Hey RJ,
Hope this wait is bringing you some nice relaxation time. Have you applied to OS? I sent in my application just for kix. I don't know much about the ability to commute to JFK but I would assume the we could use BA reciprocal airlines. I figured you might know a bit about this.

Hey AWAITING. No, I can't do OS - there's no hope of an ATL base with them, and I just can't imagine commuting permanently. It's too hard. You see, even if they have reciprocal agreements with an airline that flies out of ATL, THAT airline's employees get preferential standby status, so you would ALWAYS be on the bottom of the standby list. That's just too "iffy". I just got off the phone with my friend who recommended me for the Shuttle A. job - she's now based in ATL, and says that life is a LOT easier being able to fly out of your home city, and that it is taking no time at all for Shuttle f/a's to get ATL. So, I think I'd better stick with the home team. Have you factored in the cost of a permanent crash pad against what your salary will be?

Thanks for the additional info on jewelry. I kinda thought that. I probably won't even wear my diamond ring. Just keep it simple. Tell us more about your days.

AWAITING - I just saw David's post on the OS forum. Looks like there's no reciprocal agreemtnts for OS - sorry. That's going to make commuting impossible, unless you already have flight benefits through a spouse, child, etc.

I am completing the paperwork anyway but I can't imagine this paperwork going through anytime soon. Is T waiting until april?Looks like RJ and I will be at SA together. keep the good news coming.

Word is... suit the first two days, and then again towards the end. Other than that, business casual. (I need to try to remember what business casual is - my old job was VERY casual). LOL

hey everybody! so in the training packet, it says to memorize the boarding announcement for day 1 and memorize the landing announcement for week 3, but for the safety announcement it says to practice for week 2. so do we not need to memorize the safety announcement?

Sorry! I have been nothing but busy today! so i woke up at 6:30 this morning mostly because i was so restless. i was so nervous, we all got there and then we watched a video then we had to introduce ourselves i really have no idea what i even said. my heart was like beating out of my chest i was so scared. anyways...then they went over the company and the different airlines, pay and all that jazz. then we filled out some paper work and we waiting for one on one interviews. she ask the regular questions, which company i wanted to work for i choose republic as my #1, more questions, and i had to read the announcement. i think it went really well...i hope keep your fingers crossed!!! she said she really like me so i think thats a plus! eek! but they said it would probably be 3 weeks before we heard back. i'm so nervous! but it really wasn't bad. she was REALLY nice, it was just like talking to your best friend who you've know for years. so i was there from 930 and got home by 3. then i just got back from talking at an adult cessation class. and now i can finally relax! loooong day.

Hi RJ: What's going on with you and Shuttle? I went to OS today... I met up with Natasha and Nycgirl. The interview was great...but meeting Natasha and Nycgirl was the hit of the day.
They are sooooooooooo nice and we had fun! I'm not sure if we are getting offers but if we did...WoW training in London with them would be unreal.
I'm hoping for the best.... but, I'm not sure God will give me that present.
I can only wish.
The company is outstanding. I have never met a nicer group. They are class all the way... and they're not stuffy.
It was a memorable experience. :)

Oh, sorry, I didn't answer your question. I got an offer from Shuttle, so I go to training either the end of March or sometime in April. The 2 1/2 weeks training is doable from a dog-mommy standpoint - I have my pet-sitters all lined up. As for working, I'll get ATL at some point - either right out of training or hopefully somewhere soon down the road, so everything should work out beautifully.

FLYBOY - Do you have other offers on the table? If not, you could definitely accept the Compass offer, even go to training, and if you get a better offer from someone else, you can always take it. A couple of other people are doing just that. Congratulations!

She came to the interview...yup, in her little doggie bag. No one noticed her... Which I thought was funny...even though she barfed in her bag and it got on my butt! Nycgirl gave me the heads up and I cleaned up that mess. :)
I'm still baffled that no one realized she was there! Natasha and Nycgirl noticed because when I put my bag down during the orientation.... it wiggled!
It was funny.
As for the commute.. I have family and a summer home in NJ.. so I have accommodations if needed.

BUT! It was said today that OS was hiring experienced FA's in order to get the first fly off the ground. Since my experience is 'years' ago.... I think I may be at the bottom of the pack.
However, I cannot tell you for sure what they are looking for.... it's a guessing game.
I have Eos next week.
I'm really nervous about that interview.
If OS and Eos end up not making me an offer... I plan to kick JB another application... and then retire my airline quest. I need a break from talking about myself! LOL...

WHEN are you going to Shuttle?
Are you studying airport codes and loving it!!
Gwash went to training!!!!
I hope she is doing well and we hear from her soon!

Hi littlebritt:

Congratulations on going through the interview & good luck on getting the offer.

I was glad to hear that you were home by 3:00pm. How many people went to the recruiting session?

I am going tomorrow & requested to be off from my job until 3:00pm.

I am worried about being late so it was a relieve to read that you were home by 3:00p.

Thanks for the update & good luck. Hopefully we will all meet in the April S5 class.
