Does anyone know if Continental Airlines gives you the
JOB OFFER immediately on the spot after passing the all day group interviews in Houston OR do they get back to you 5-10 days later via email if you are selected ?

Thanks,

FIRST IT IS A 4 PART INTERVIEw. all the same day. Hired on the spot after 4 interviews If Continental is flying you in dress professional and business like. They are watching you from the minute you check in at the airport to the minute you go home. Dress professional. I wear a black suit with a skirt with black hose. Do not wear too much make up and no blue eyeshadow. Wear your hair natural even if it is long do not look like you are going to the prom and put it up with a bunch of spray. They want to girl or guy from next door look. Do not put on too much jewelry. One pair of earring, small necklace and a watch it is a must. Someone may ask you the time and someone be watch in the background. They asked me. Offer the people around you a drink and get it for them from the table. You never know who is watching at anytime. Talk to everyone but do not be over powering. I arrived early as the papers said. Remember if you are interviewing in Houston it takes 20 minutes to get to the training center as the shuttle makes a loop around the airport. I arrived early and sat in a classroom with about 15 other people that had earlier flights too. I think there were about 75 people total. Make yourself at home and be friendly to everyone who comes in and out of the room. Notice them all it will make a difference. One thing to remember You never know
who’s eyes and ears are on you. Then about 9:00 sharp a nice Gentleman named Tony started the presentation. We watched a short video for about 20 minutes. He told us about the company and asked if we had any question at the end. THINK OF
A GREAT QUESTION, because they note that on your application. They tell you that you will find out in 7-10 days via emaiL
THIS IS PART ONE OF 2 PARTS

Don’t ever think you are not being watched because you are the whole time.
They said they would start the intake process in the back of the room. They were only take resumes and letters of recommendations. They did not ask you to bring these but anybody know you need them. I tell you from experience of 6 other interviews I did not have letters of recommendation and I did not get hired. YOU MUST HAVE THEM IF YOU WANT A JOB. They do not have time to call your references so bring good ones that show you as a team player and dependable and on time. Then we participated in ONE group activity. This activity is all about participation and listening skills. They called groups of about 10 people. We were taken into a conference room. They asked for us to be seated taking thefirst 4 or 5 chairs starting with the head of the table. Some people just sat anywhere. They said we were a Flight crew and we needed to work together figuring out what order these situational statements went in. We were asked to say our FIRST name and read the card we had. Then we were told we had 5 minutes to put them in order and they were not there to help only to observe. The secret to this exercise is that there is NO RIGHT OR WRONG. Only that you participate in the exercise. If
you just sit back and be shy you will not go any farther with the interview process. Do not be over powering, but participate. Use your crew members
first names they all have name tags. After the time was up they thanked us and asked us NOT TO TALK about it. This means Shut your mouth and do not
say anything even if someone asked how your interview went. Do not say good or bad just say they Told us not to talk about it and DON’T. I think
that people posing as applicants were put in the room to be their eyes and ears. This happens for MOST ALL airline COMPANIES. I have caught 2 other airlines in that little game.
Part 3 to come

So now everyone gets another interview one on one. After that you were escorted to the door and told that they would tell you more about what will happen next. Most people were thanks at that time, but if you had a great interview they handed you a paper of when to return for a second interview. They said to be discret and not tell anyone NOTHING also To ride the shuttle back to the airport, but do not get off at the airport go a little farther to eat lunch at the
Marriott. Then come back at the time NOT too early but remember it takes 20 minutes to make the loop around the airport. A lot of people rode the shuttle
got off at the airport only 2 got off with me. I can’t stress enough do not talk about your interview to no one not even on your cell phone; you do not
know who is listen. I went back and waited, there was only about 10-12 people. Now it was time for One on ones again, but with a different interviewer.
Be yourself and Smile. After that interview you were thanked and told they would walk you out and tell you what the next process was. They said everyone is processed differently and at this time I was escorted to a room away from the interview area. I was told they would like me to talk to a panel of people and to wait in this room. There were only 2 people in the room this time. I waited for over an hour and if you think I was nervous I had more than one butterfly in my stomach. The same girl was in the room was trying to get anyone to talk about
their interview and I said they told me not to talk about it. Then she was called. Only 2 other people can in the room and they were the last. So I think
only about 6 made it though to the final panel interview and only about 3 were hired. Boy am I feeling Luck. I went to a panel of people the same question we asked but a little different. They asked did I have any other question I said Yes, Can I start right away and they said NO. I was heart broken.

Then I said I could come back and reapply in 6 months right and they said NO again they said One could reapply in a year, but will February starting
work for you. I was so happy and started to cry. I thank them for my dream job and I was now able to live the dream. I was then taken to another office
and given some paperwork to fill out. They said they would contact me in 7-10 with more info. Still no 10 year information was ever asked for. They
told me that when returning to the airport please do not say anything to anyone else. I think this is just a test to following directions as they do not have anything to hide. So when I went back to the airport, I was immediately found but 2 different applicants I did not remember seeing and was asked how it went. I again told them I was not going to talk about it and I would get more information in 7-10 days. Don’t lie only be truthful and I was as they are going to email me
with more applicant info or will get there letter of unacceptance. The whole process happens in one day all day. It is a test of can you follow direction or
not. LISTEN, LISTEN, Smile and be yourself. I am still on cloud nine, thanks to this website and www.flightattendantcareer.com buy the question they sell for interview it was the exact question they asked. Best 9.95 I ever spent. I also used www.airlinecareer.com this was a great place to get lots of info become a member it is worth it.
Hope this helps

De, I applied back in the middle of October and JUST NOW recieved an email saying that my application had bee forwarded to the recruiting department. (I was certain that they must have hated me and shredded my resume!) I imagine that major carrier probably get hundreds, if not thousands of FA applications so it can take awhile for them to get to yours.......or, maybe they have just now started hiring for the next training class and you might hear from them tomorrow!

On a flight back from St. Paul a couple of weeks ago, I chatted up a Pilot as we were walking down the concourse and he told me that many recruiters tend to not do many interviews this time of year because of the holidays (they don't want to fly all over creation doing interviews during the busiest travel season) and that interviews tend to come back in full force after the beginning of the year. (He was a really nice guy, btw!)

That was reassuring for someone who had applied several places and hadn't received any responses!

So, keep this in mind if you have applied to many airlines in the past few weeks and haven't heard anything.

Thank you Krystal for sharing that info with me, I appreciate it. I some dude that works for the Continental Airline told me that the next training class for Flight Attendants is starting in Jan. I just hope they reply back very soon. Did any one go through the interview yet? if so can you share with me, how was it, what kind of question they asked..etc.

Spike: I was a flight attendant with CO years ago. You are correct... LISTEN and FOLLOW their directions. Be yourself... meaning friendly... training with CO is fun! The instructors make it fun and they want everyone to pass. Really, they are very nice people in the training program with CO. STUDY. I will say to everyone who wants to be an FA. You need to make training all you think about. Study in groups and HELP your classmates. Last and probably most important: Continental does not stand for gossip or rumors during their training class. If you hear a rumor... don't make a comment on it nor talk gossip. That is the way to be removed from training. CO plants gossip and rumors to see who bites the bait and who removes themself from it. Be smart and remember that training is only a middle step... you need to get your wings! Good luck to everyone... CO is a great company!

Not sure, but this is what I had to bring:
Orginal SS card
Orginal Birth cert.
Orginal license
Passport
3 copies of all above.
1 copy of High school Dep. or GED

3 copies of resume.
1 extra for yourself to use when you fill out the paper app. It makes it easier to fill in dates and contact numbers. The other 3 resumes will not be returned to you.

( bottle of water and powerbar. Its a long day and you will need to keep up your energy.)

Good luck with Continental. They all are very professional and friendly over there.

Hey there,

I just came across this WONDERFUL site, and was hoping to have a couple questions of my own answered...? Does anyone know the process for Alaska Airlines Panel Interview? Our interview process was a little different this time, since there were over 300 applicants it took longer than normal to "break the list" down, therefore we have interview on three different days (Day One: Group, Day Two: One on Ones and Day Three (Tomorrow): Panel). Anyways, like I said my panel interview is tomorrow and I was just curious to know if anyone had any helpful tips, hints or suggestions for a hopeful future flight attendant?! Thanks in advance!

Spike, great info, I reallllllly appreciated it. I used all your advice and I was offered a position with CO. Thanks for the great great, detailed info. It was really hard not to talk about the process with the other applicants but I knew better because of your advice and now i get to live my dreams :-) I followed everything you said to a "T", I even bought a watch the night before and made sure to change the time to Local Texas time upon arrival. Thanks so much, i owe you the world!

Spike, I'm wondering what the swimming test will be like? Do you know anything of it? And any other training information you can tell me... Thanks a million, hope to fly with you some day :-)

I am interested in working with Continential Airlines and would like to know the process...how long after you submit your resume do you hear anything, if accepted where do you go for interviewing, if your lucky where do you go for training and how long is that process...Then I am interested to know what the pay scale is. Does anyone know? Another thing, during training what are the living arrangement and are you paid during that time? I have tons of questions....anyone have any good reference information...Southwest Airlines is interesting to me as well, but does not fly out of Montgomery. Not a problem for me though!

Nancy,

Continental Airlines has 3 hubs (Houston TX, Newark NJ and Cleveland OH). You will have to move to one of those 3 cities. The company will decided your base taking into account comapany's needs. It takes about 1-2 months before they email you regarding your resume. You will get an email stating they would like to interview you along with further instructions if you are what they're looking for. Interviews are usually held in Houston TX and Newark NJ. They will fly you for free to any of those airports if needed.
Training is always done in Houston, TX for about 5 weeks. The starting salary is $18/hour + certain bonuses. Training is unpaid; however you will get $20/day for dinner expenses. Hotel room, breakfast and lunch are provided to you by Continental Airlines. You will share the room with another trainee. Check Continental Airline's website for further information (www.continental.com). I believe Continental is the best arline to work for right now. Benefits, perks, pay scale and bonuses are far better than other airlines.

I just don't understand how you live on this pay. Being used to 40 hours a week and knowing what I will bring home is one thing, but I can't understand how one knows what to expect. Also, I suppose having a roomate forever is very likely, right?
One other question....so how are you suppose to "pay you bill"s with know income during your training period. Life does go on. Talk to me, I am trying to make some big discussions here!!!!

Continental has a minimum pay of I think it's 93 hrs per month. So if you fly less, you will still get that.
My FA friend went to training and worked many overtime hours to save $ to pay her bills during training. Delta pays for training and pays for uniforms too. Good luck!

Thanks for the quick reply. I have never been assoicated with a job that did not pay you during training. I work for a utility and was in extensive training and was paid well and given a raise after coming out of training....I am still doing that job....customer service in a call center...10 years!!!!!! I have tons of questions and really want to make the right decision, but this is something I have always wanted to do. Are you an FA, how long and what is the best and worst thing about the job? And tell me about the training? Is it tough to get through??

No I'm not an FA..I'm waiting to start training with Delta...
When I first applied I was skeptical...but I started really thinking about the possibilities and I am sooo excited I can't wait. My friend is a single mom and she's been doing it for years and loves it. I think you should definitely apply to as many companies as you can and go to the interviews, do your best and then decide whether or not you think it's for you. After meeting all the wonderful people at Delta I became completely convinced it's what I want. It'll be a lifestyle change, but one that I really want.

I get the idea you applied with several companies? I have thought about Delta but their application is so geared toward people who can speak different languages. I, unfortunately do not speak another language. Do you?

Well, I applied in the beginning of October, did all of the phone interviews and the on-line assessment early November. Had the fact-to-face interview at the end of November, was told then and there I had a prelim offer based on the outcome of my background check, language test and training. I am still waiting to see when I start. It's nerve racking.

Anchorage, Alaska (most junior base)
Seattle, Washington (most senior base)
Los Angeles, California

They fly mainly on the west coast through out Canada, Mexico, Alaska, Hawaii, and California. A couple flights to the east coast; like Fl, NJ, etc. Take a look at the website for a better idea.

FamilyFlyer, thanks! That was helpful information. Yeah, I'm looking at Alaska. My husband and I would like to live in the Pacific Northwest, and Alaska looks like a pretty nice airline. I have no first-hand knowledge, but from what I can tell, Alaska may pay a little better than a number of airlines and be a little kinder on scheduling.

Anchorage could be tough. It's four hours or so to Seattle, and then another three or four hours to anyplace else from there. Plus, if they hired me, I'd have to go over to REI and buy a spacesuit for the cold.

I don't know anything about Continental, but I ran across a good bulletin board at this link:

www.airlinecrew.net/

The Continental F/As post a lot and they are smart and FEISTY! Very entertaining and a real window into what they're thinking about.

Congratulations on Alaska and good luck with your decision!

Thanks for the link. I checked it out and yes.. it was quite entertaining to say the least. As for the spacesuit from REI, I have mine on order. Periodically, I like to check the latest news, weather and festivities in Anchorage, just the other day it was a whopping 15 degrees. One perk about being in Anchorage during the winter is you'll never have to worry about oversleeping and missing the sunrise since sunrise is at 11 o'clock in the morning! Perk number 2 is you'll only have to wait a couple hours to catch the sunset at 4:30 pm! Crazy! Anyhow, I hope to be based out of WA, (I am from there) however I'll be in the air or traveling most of the time, so really home is where I make it. :) Good luck with the interview. I have only heard great things about Alaska. If you need any help or have any questions let me know. See you in the air.

Hi FamilyFlyer,

I am starting training with Alaska next week. When I interviewed with them in October, they told us that all 300 F/As that would be hired in 2008 will be going to Anchorage and to plan on being there for at least a year. Did they tell you that? I really hope they're just sorta saying that, you know...be prepared for the worse. What do you think? I cannot even fathom moving to Anchorage in February!

Andi, I have an interview for Continental, and if hired I will be in the May Class as well!

As for what to wear during training, I have also been hired for Alaska and they told us during training it is advise to wear business casual (collar shirt and black pants), but be sure to wear a suit the first day, since you'll more than likely meet all the head honchos! Good luck with Training!

CONGRATS POSH! You start training next week?! How Fun and Good Luck! My class begins Feb 11, 2008. As for EVERYONE going to Anchorage, I am not sure. I speak Spanish, therefore I may be stationed in LA, yet since I am not a native speaker and haven't taken the test; I can only assume that I will be placed amongst the others in Anchorage.

ALTHOUGH, to answer your question, they did say prepare for the worse! :/ And yes, You have about 6 months to a year on reserve while stationed in Anchorage. Now, if you chose to transfer, you'll lose your seniority and go right back to reserve. I haven't decided which is better, live in Anchorage and hold a guaranteed line or live elsewhere, yet be on reserve...

Quick question for you. Since you'll basically be moving directly after training, what are you packing for the long move? talk to you soon

Attention all CURRENT flight Attendants:

Can anyone provide me with some (any) insight regarding what I should pack, or how I should begin looking for housing in my base location? I know you will meet other individuals in your class, any they will become your roommates, but should we look into furnished apartments? Apartments close to the airport, Should I pack personal items or leave them home? Pack light, only bring the "necessities". Thanks in advanced!

Jamie in Houston, Texas said: What is the best way to persue a career as a Flight Attendant? Where do I start? Any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks,

Jamie:

Start by researching the airlines (go to their websites and read, read, read(history, etc)). also, something that helped me was going to the local library and looking in the references section for any flight attendant books. be sure to look around on the internet "keyword" flight attendants tips/hiring/lifestyle, etc. This is a great website also, check it out www.flightattendantcareer.com.

Now, I am not too terribly experienced in the process, since I only interviewed with Alaska, and was hired on my first attempt. However, I know this, BE PREPARED! The life of a flight attendant isn't glam and glory, its hard work! Dress professionally! Read Spike's statements above, he is very right. If you have any additional questions ALWAYS ask!

Good Luck!

KAI KAI: Weight and height are observed. They no longer have weight requirements, but its is necessary to be able to move fluently around the plane, etc.
