Hi, I will be flying out that morning for an interview @ 10:30am. I am excited, but I have a question maybe someone could answer for me. The training program (should I get accepted, fingers crossed!!) they said it is un-paid but they cover room and board. My question is once the program is completed do you recieve a sign on bonus like some other companies i have heard of?

WakeyJakey in San Francisco, California said: I have my second interview with United this week. I'm so glad I came across this forum! I feel more prepared now that I have an idea of what to expect...and I'm especially glad I found out they will hire you on the spot if you get the job. Can anyone tell me what the group interview is all about? And are the questions asked in the one-on-one similar to the questions asked in the interview with Spherion? Do they expect you to know anything specific about the company? I'm so excited for my interview!

Since I didn't get the job screw the confidentiality agreement. They have you wait for a really long time and they watch you , so be on your toes. there will be a plant that works for the company sitting in with your group that you are supposed to think is a fellow person interviewing. The plant will be whining and complaining about the process the whole time, so be on your toes and be friendly and polite. They will bring you into a romo and talk about domiciles, after which you will do an easy activity as a group.

Then there will be more waiting before your one on one. At the one on one I think she asked me 6 or 7 questions that you need to answer with the STAR response (Situation or Task, Action you took, and Result). The questions I got asked were both scenario and behavioral based:

"Tell me about a time you had to cut corners to meet a deadline"

"Tell me about a time you broke a rule to please a customer"

"What woudl you do if a passenger of a minority race was sitting on a plane, and the person next to him says loudly enough for those surrounding him said 'I can't sit next to one of THOSE people'"

"Tell me about a miscommunication you had with your boss"

"What would you do if an obviously intoxicated passenger orders another cocktail"

WakeyJakey,

Could you please e-mail me at maria1605@yahoo.com as I got a question for you.Thanks.

I have a couple more questions. I a little confused about how many steps there are. I had the phone interview and will be going to Chicago later this week. If I make it thru, what else should I be expecting? Also, I live near NYC, would it be possible to be sent there, or Philadelphia. I don't want to pass up any chance I may have, so I will take anything I am offered, I was just wondering what my chances are to be offered a spot there? Thank you so much to everyone who has been thru the process and has posted their experinces, it has really helped me learn what to expect. I can't remember a time when I didn't want to a flight attendant, so anything that helps me get one step closer is a big deal. Thank you again, Millie

Millie.. here is the process.

1. phone interview with united
2. 1st interview with Spherion in chicago, they're a third party HR type. If you do well they will schedule a 2nd interview with United itself.
3. 2nd interview is at United world headquarters in chicago. there's a group interview and a one on one interview, most times they offer you a position on the spot.

Shine,
Thank you so much, that is just what I wanted to know. I will be keeping up on the threads and doing my best to prepare for Thursday. If you have any tips I would be grateful. I am going shopping tomorrow, any hints to what I should wear for a great first impression with them; does it matter if I wear slacks or a knee length skirt? I am 22 and have accomplished a lot, I have worked in politics and non-profit in many cities across America. Although, I haven't finished college (I do have a few years under my belt at a great east coast university) and don't speak a second langue, will this be a problem? I left politics and have been working in retail to gain a different type of customer service experience in hopes this will help my chances. I’m in good shape and have been working out a lot lately. I guess I am asking if there is anything I am leaving out or anything more I can do to improve my status as an applicant. As I have said before being a flight attendant it a dream of mine and any little bit will be appreciated.

I had my 2nd interview with United a few days ago. After my one-on-one the lady interviewing me said they'd contact me in less than 2 weeks with their decision. Doesn't United always hire right after the one-on-one if you've got the job? Is this a done deal, or is there a chance I could be hired?

Millie- JFK/LGA are United domiciles, but the only domiciles open for new hires right now are DCA (Washington D.C...and if you chose that one you'll also work out of BWI and IAD) and BOS (Boston). You can wait for the NYC domicile to open, but you only have a year to do so. Since you have to begin training for a domicile within a year of being hired, you'd have to go to whatever domicile is open if the NYC one doesn't open within the year; otherwise, your job offer would expire and you'd have to go through the entire application process again (with no guarantee of receiving another job offer). Good luck on your interviews!

I have my final interview with United tomorrow at 12:30 in Chicago. Will anybody be arriving at O'Hare around 7:30am? I'd love to find a buddy to take the shuttle with.

I am so glad I found this forum, its definitely made me feel alot more knowledgable about the whole interview process.

Any advice from someone who passed the third interview and got offered a position?

Does anyone know how long after hiring does training start? Do they give us enough time to give our current employers a 2 week notice?

Yes! you will get time to give notice to your former employee. It also depends which domicile you choose and the dates available, so not to worry. Best of luck!

Hi Millie.....dunno what flygirl is mentioning up there..but the transfer lists have been clearing every week. That is usually indicative of new hire activity across the sytem (they have to process transfers first). Boston is a domicile we have, it is a small one, though. If you do work out of Iad you also work out of dca and bwi (not boston as well...) I again, would not wait a year to get your base you want. If they hire you , take the job. It is 6 mos of probation, then you are eligible to transfer. Transfers to JFK have historically not been difficult to get. Good luck!

I was only writing about the domiciles that are, as of right now, open to new hires...not transfers. During the presentation on domiciles, the recruiters said DCA, which includes BWI and IAD, and BOS were the domiciles open right now with training for BOS beginning on April 14th and training for DCA beginning on April 28th.

Heather,

Just be yourself, they expect you to be nervous. I was really nervous yesterday at the Sperion interview and I was a sales manager. I did interviews myself at my old job. You are in a good spot as we are 2 hrs from IAD.

Just be freindly, smile, and hope for the best. Of course next Tuesday I will be as nervous as you. I know they are looking for friendly people. Good Luck to you.

Thanks Bill, I appreciate the boost of confidence! I'm actually not in Richmond, I don't know why this thing said that, LoL. I'm in Virginia Beach right now but am moving back to outside of DC (where I'm orginially from) in the next couple of months or so...pretty much based on whether or not I get this job.

Lol, that would be something if they had you work out of both IAD and BOS. Cat, does United only hire new FAs immediately after the one-on-one? I was told I would be contacted with a decision in less than two weeks after mine. After reading some of the posts on this forum, it seems like if you don't get hired on the spot, you're not getting hired, so I'm wondering if I still have a chance?

sorry, Hopeful, wish I knew what to tell you....I have been flying a long time already so interviews were completely different then. Unfortunately, from what I am reading in these posts, it does sound like they hire on the spot.....hopefully, this is not always the case...I will keep my fingers crossed for you...
Also, please know that whatever happens it is for a reason. I was hired with 2 other airlines at the same time as United, and both the other airlines are out of business.....you never know what the future holds. I will encourage you to reapply and apply with many carriers just to not keep your eggs in any one basket.. it is a good time, because it seems like a lot of airlines are hiring, right now. Anyways, sweetie, good luck to you !! take care...Cat
