ummmmm good! I have one big bag (I'm checking it) and a 22 roller to carry on! Thats it! Hows everyone else doin'? |
|
other phillyguy in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania 8 months ago |
im tryin to squeeze into a carry on sized bag. and 1 computer bag which will also be stuffed with items |
|
NaomiO in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania 8 months ago |
Wow! You're good!! |
|
Meinanutshell in New York, New York 8 months ago |
Lol. I'm bringing a rolling carry-on ("22") a tote and a messenger bag which I hope I can bring on as a big "purse". I can't wait to get this stuff there...I don't know how we're doing it, but we're doing it! I shouldn't be up, but I can't sleep, did laundry last minute (that needs to be packed) and had to clean the kitchen. Maybe it's excitement. Maybe I'm just wired. But I just can't wait for tomorrow either way. |

You will get some information very soon in the mail once your background check is underway. It will contain all of the information that you need to know about training and studying. All I can tell you is to study those things then relax and have fun. The instructors are wonderful and want to see you do well. Know your announcement that is sent to you. You WILL be tested first day. Right now there are four other trainees around me and we are so excited for you and all of us! Congrats on training. Congrats on Long Beach Judy. Just got my domicile assignment to LGA. It was my second choice but I am told that I am going to RDU in June. |

i doubt you will get into philly. no one in our class did, but you never know. There is at least 3 people in our class waiting to get transferred into phl, but i think all of us are just goinng to change our permanent location to LGA because we will hold a line there quicker, as opposed to going to phl where we will be on reserve until we are ready to retire. Just do what Mr Ty said too, and know that announcement. start reading it as soon as you get it. dont wait for the last minute. your stress level on the first day and week will be considerable lower if you know it verbatim coming in. We have weekends off the first few weeks, we may have to work weekends during our IOE. You can do whatever you want on weekends but you can not pass travel and you cannot have anyone else pass travel on your account. Also they have a rule (i doubt it is enforced) that if you want someone to come visit you that they can not stay in your hotel room. |

Just wondering how the whole "checking the bag thing" worked out for you who are in training? What would you suggest for new trainees coming in? I know some people wished the would have brought more. |
|
other phillyguy in Virginia Beach, Virginia 7 months ago |
nobody had any problem checking them... some people who brought excess baggage with them are shipping their bags back home though. When you are here you will recieve your airline luggage, so you have to keep that in mind when packing. |

Long Beach Judy in Long Beach, New York said: At LGA this is how it went. Of course you must look professional and be punctual. ITs common sense for me and u but yould be surprised how many people dont dress the part also arrive late and want to be let in while the recuiters are speaking of the company. they speak of the new bases which will be in NC and LGA as well as the current bases PA,DC and VA pay attention to this it will be on an assessment test that they gave us it has basic math and questions about things that were spoken. So Pay attention to everthing they say!!! then they ask everyone to read aloud an annoucement then they ask everyone to take a break and they will post on the door who made the next step the rest of the people where excused Im assuming people were chosen based on there reading aloud skills and who scored 100 on the test they gave also on appearance.Once u see your name on the door u come in fill out an extensive application on backround check and get fingerprinted .I received a call once my backround cleared and finger prints. I hope this helps. If theres anything else yould like to know please ask! Kathy, here is a bit of info for interview from a previous post. If you go to the beginning of this forum and read through you will find alot of info about the whole process. |

Hi, I missed the open call in RDU because there was no advertisement about it. I have some friends that work for US Airways, and told me that they would be looking for people to interview in May, but the open-call interviews were April 3 and 4. I have sent my resume to AWAC, and hopefuly will hear from them. If not, I will try to go to an interview next week in PHL. I have flight benefits on CO because I worked for them for ten years. How was your interview, and can you make any comments on it for me? Kat RDU |

a few things... Go to www.airwis.com, they list all of their open houses on there. They are hiring a lot of FAs, they are really short at the moment. If you arrange it, they will most likely fly you in for the open house. As far as domiciles go, most new hires are probably going to be sent to LGA and DCA. There is an outside chance at RDU. You can get transfered any month after you start, and transfers dont take that long to get to the other bases. |

Sorry I haven't replied recently. It looks like phillyguy has been keeping you guys up to date. Figures since he IS the class validictorian! WHOO HOO Phillyguy... congrats and you deserve it! Well I suppose that's really true since it isn't really picked at random but earned instead now isn't it! BTW... it's your job to tell Shaun it's really "Hi Joe," and not "Hi, Joe," now. :) Don't worry about others in training jrseygirl. You will definately receive that package. Mine took about two weeks from the time that Beth called me to offer the job until I received it but was right on time with the time she told me. So no, don't be concerned. Just check the mail. About checking the bag... we have two divided schools of thought in our training class it seems. I went with what was recommended and it worked well for me. I packed one carry on and one tote bag. It worked perfect for me. I followed the recommened packing list too and had plenty to wear. Others here packed a large suitcase and checked it at the time they flew. My thoughts on that (since I just know you are dying to know... heh)... First, it seems even those who packed heavily here have worn the same three or four outfits the entire training. You will get used to it so don't feel you need different outfits for different weeks. One or two pairs of jeans and two or three dress pants will get you by. On your first day of training you will be ordering your luggage and uniforms. It takes a while for those to get to you but once they do that is more you will have to carry around when you leave. When training is over, you will have to take all of that home with you and there is always the possibility that you will go directly to your domicile (unlikely but possible). So I still stand by this. Pack light. If you need something when you get here, the hotel van can take you to a shopping center with plenty of options. I forgot to bring something with sleeves so made that trip to Walmart! |
|
jrseygirl in New Jersey 7 months ago |
Thank you Flyguy! and congrats to Phillyguy! I recieved my package on Sat. and have been very busy studying. I am definetly going to pack light. I cant wait! Where is everyone being based? Is everyone still in your class that you started with? |
|
other phillyguy in Virginia Beach, Virginia 7 months ago |
Yeah tyson at graduation im gonna tell shawn about the proper format for a greeting in a letter..
jrseygirl, like ty, i would recomend packing light... i did the same thing as him, we have been going to walmart if we need anything. We have both gotten by with limited amounts of clothing. definately dont bring too many suits, as we only ended up wearing them pretty much the first week, and it has been casual ever since. dont bring any offensive clothing.

Hi Guys. Just wanted to say hello to everyone and see how training is going? Is anybody in class right now, and is it tough? Did anybody get stationed in RDU? Talk to yous guys soon. I am still trying to get to an open call interview. I will let you know when I do. Kat RDU |

FlyGuyTy in New York, New York 6 months ago |
I got a transfer to RDU for June and should hold a line there. It sure beats this reserve crap. I've been on one trip since my six day reserve sequence started. I know it will get better as LGA and RDU are ironed out as new domiciles but right now I am bored, bored, BORED! I hope training is going well for the newbies. Ain't that some crap about not being tested on the announcement. Is Flica still alive and kicking? I miss him! Oh, and did you guys get the care package we left for you? |
|
Kathryn Ahmed in Orange Park, Florida 6 months ago |
Hi FlyGuyTy, Hope you are well. I have been keeping up with the comments on the forum. I am going to an interview on Tuesday in Durham. The thing is that I live in RDU, and hope that when I get hired that I can be based here. I hear you are transferring here. I think you will like it. It is kind of boring, but a good place to be based as far as getting to the airport and being able to afford a house or an apartment. Do you have any tips on the interview with AWAC? I went on like 5 interviews with CO mainline before I got hired, but I can't fly the big birds anymore or take the years on reserve, so I transferred to the ATO. I worked there for ten years, and then got a job offer with Duke University that I could not turn down. |

Hello everyone. I went to the interview on May13, and did not even make it through to the 2nd interview. I was absolutely shocked, since I have worked for the airlines for 15 years and am very familiar with the flight attendant interview. Is there anybody else out there that got rejected by AWAC too? I was not very impressed with their whole interview process. |
