You do have to get your own hotel. I go on the 20th I am staying at the Sheraton the night before since the interviews are there. I think training is 4 weeks and you do have to get your own hotel, but you also get paid while in training. When is your interview??

Hey =) We all graduated last week and exhausted... I came to Virgin America with so much energy, passion and excitement but most importantly I was looking for a new life style, new experience and love people! From the time I got invited to the interview, thru the fun and unique interview process, waiting to hear back, going thru training and finally graduating; all I have to say is... It was a blast! The people at the HQ at Virgin America, our trainers, and my team mates in my class all made my time there a great unforgettable once in a life time experience. I am sure others in my class of 03-08 also felt the same way. I have them all to thank as we all came to Virgin America for various reasons and we all come from different backgrounds. I personally came for the passion, life style & experience and it was exactly what I got.

Flying for the first time, the crew on my flight continued that same positive energy & fun that I've seen as a guest on Virgin America in the past. All I can say is, I'm glad to be here, ambitious and glad to be part of a wonderful team and I wish all of you the best of luck thru every process of the interview, training and experience when you fly. :)

Cheers!
Larry

Training is 28 days or so. And,those of us on this forum that will be training starting May 27th and don't live in SFO we will be staying at the Holiday Inn Express. The current class is at the Embassy Suites, but with summer we couldn't get the same rate. They will talk to you about pay at training, but they do pay well compared to many others. I am not comfortable doing that here. It may be somewhere back on the forum. I would still encourage you read back, because you will get information that haven't even thought to ask. Make sure you make friends with people at the interview and swap information, so you will have people to share with if there aren't many here. Good luck.

Hi, friends in Training Class 5/27! I am still waiting to get the final offer letter - I have done the drug test on Monday 5/12 and finished the Verifications online application last Thursday night, 5/8/08. Hopefully by Friday.

So, quick question. I live driving distance to SFO (2 hours 15 min. on smooth traffic days). I want to stay by the Training Center during the week, but go home weekends. Having a weekend is definitely a better deal financially, and also great to have someone to study with. Let me know when everyone gets the offer and e-mailed the study paperwork. See you in 2 weeks - WOW!

SFDenver in Riverside, California said: Hi Cat,
I have tremendous respect for you and all the help you have provided so many people on the United forum. You have been a great encouragement. However, I would respectfully disagree with you on this point. I am over 50 :) and I was given a go ahead. I know of several others as well. They are in training as we speak. I know of some young very beautiful people that VA did not hire. So, I think VX is setting its own standards, and one failure to hire does not translate into age discrimination. There are all kinds of possible reasons. With so many airlines going under recently and hiring freezes (i.e. United), an already very competitive market is even more intense. Again, I do appreciate you and all your usual kind words of encouragement you give of generously.

Mission Virgin--I am so sorry to hear about you not getting the offer to move forward in the process. I wish you the very best of luck in your search. Have you tried American Eagle? They are hiring like crazy right now. I believe ASA and Alaska are hiring as well. Hopefully, JetBlue will come through for you very soon.

SF,
It is no wonder you are going to be a Flight Attendant!
Your dimplomacy and graciousness is a huge asset to you : ) (and to your coworkers).
Yes, I had writers remorse after that comment. That is just IMO, but I should have kept it to myself. I truly hope that you are more correct than I am on this one. It is much better to work with people with varied ages and experiences. I have learned lot of lessons from Flight Attendants who are older than me. Some have been about flying...lots have been about life and how to treat people. You are especially correct about the competitiveness of getting hired...right now more than ever. If age discrimation is an issue, there are even less chances for some extremely qualified F/A's to get hired on.

HH

The pay and benefits isn't much of a secret at VA. If you've been to the interview they should have told you that it's 19 / flight hour. Benefits are always being rolled in as this is a new company, not sure what specific benefits your looking at.

"Is it worth it?" That really depends on who your asking. I didn't exactly come here for the income or the benefits but instead I came here as a solution to my personal stressful life and to meet new people with a new life style. Of course there are other reasons that goes along with it but those are my main ones. The question if it's worth it or not is very subjective and it depends on who your asking :) For me? Hell yea it's worth it! haha.. I love working at VA and everyone who works there! =)

Training is about 4 weeks, housing / food is not provided but you get paid for training. With other airlines you might get housing paid for but not training so.. it's all about the same when it comes down to it, no surprise there.

Benefits usually kick in after your training since.. think about it.. you can't use your benefits when your in training anyways :) There's a day in training devoted to benefits and all that goodie stuff. :)

if you had to chose, what did you feel was the most difficult part of training is and why?

have fun flying and thanks for the update! hope to see you in the air in july :)

Thanks :) Most difficult part?... The most difficult part is seeing those who end up not being able to continue training with you for various reasons. You tend to build a tight bond with those at training as the days go on. Despite what some may think, two days can feel like two weeks and training isn't a challenge against your team mates or your instructors since your all in there together. Losing a team mate during training for me was the most difficult part of training. The training material and process itself to me isn't all that difficult, some tell me it's because I have so much passion when I came in but it varies from person to person.

I hope to see YOU and EVERYONE ELSE in the air in July :)

this is trina in sf. what can we begin to study now for our and coming training and testing? what is the most difficult of testings? can you share?
have fun !! are you on reserve now and flying ?
t diz

Hey Trina, All I can indulge on is, study EVERYTHING prior to training and during training. It'll make your life easier and less to worry about :) Always anticipate and be prepared for anything on the test. If you have that mentality you'll do just fine.

Right now I'm on reserve and flying. I personally think it's fun and exciting on reserve only because I like the spontaneous calls to fly somewhere with a new crew that I can meet and get to know during my trips. Of course that's only because I live locally; the further you are away from SFO the less likely you'll like to be on reserve. But in June I'll be able to hold a line and from what others have told me (with no prior airline experience), being on reserve for one month is unheard of in this industry.

The success rate for every class is different, that's not something I can say, or even guess for that matter. The materials to me is not all that super hard, but it does require a good amount of dedication to training. Being that most if not everyone in training wanted to be there, the dedication part shouldn't be that hard to find :)

Tiffany in Los Gatos, California said: Sadly, I will not be joining you all either. I am in the final interview stages for Alaska so send some positive vibes my way!! Good luck to you all. Im happy for you guys.

Tiffany I wish you the best at Alaska! I was sitting at starbucks one day and had a quick small chat with a fellow Alaska Airline employee and she seems very nice and happy at her job. She was taking off on Virgin America to Las Vegas that following weekend! So I'm sure you'll be in great hands and good luck to you at Alaska Tiffany!

Larry- I have been through every page of this post and want to say you are quite the inspiration! Keep up the posting, it clearly encourages a lot of people.

I am a FA with a regional now and absolutely love it. Due to the economy and talks of cutbacks I am applying to VA but not because I want to leave my current company. Is there talk within VA about future domiciles? And what are the current agreements with other carriers? I have seen Jet Blue, ASA and Frontier mentioned here. Trying to figure out if SFO is commutable from PDX.

I have family in Concord which could provide a crash pad of sorts. VA seems like it has a great atmosphere, which is oh-so-important to me as a prospective employee. It would just be difficult for me to make the jump since I am so happy with my current job. Would be easier if there was talk of more domiciles coming soon-ish. SEA or DEN? Obviously not PDX since they are not flying in & out of there. hough I did see one of your planes at PDX about 5 days ago- apparenly for a mechanical.

Thanks again for all the advice you have posted, Larry!

Does someone working at VA now have any insight?

Also- for an ITM who has bee on reserve- how are your reserve bids shaking out? Are you flying a lot? More than guarantee? What are the odds of you getting called on a reserve day? Are you able to request "first out" or "last out"? Bottom line, if I am on reserve I want to be getting trips, not sitting in SFO waiting for one, so that is why I am curious.

(Not in Seattle, but in SF)

basically the interview is a make or break. it's a group interview, and to be quite honest there isn't much one on one interaction with the interview panel. they pretty much tell you all about the company and the aspects of job (as if you got the job already) and then you perform an icebreaker where everyone speaks in front of the group so everyone can see how your personality is. during this time, all members of the panel are taking notes on you.

afterwards you go in for one on ones where they'll ask you a few questions (which i won't disclose) and that's pretty much it. my one on one didn't even last 2 minutes. then you'll either get an e-mail saying sorry and thanks or an e-mail to take the drug test and move on. luckily i got the latter.

hope that helps! just be yourself and you should do fine!

I'm looking to apply for an FA position with Virgin America and I know they're currently hiring for the SFO area.. but if they're going to have domiciles in miami at some point should I wait until they start hiring for that location? I'm just slightly concerned about the cost of living in San Francisco.
