FLORA - I KNEW that there was something about you that I liked. :)
And what a great b'day present.

BYRDIE - My husband was not on the same page either. He is a pilot for a mainline carrier, and knows firsthand how physically demanding it is, as well as how much it will take you away from home. He's probably not happy about you being away from him and the homefront so much. I handled it by reminding mine that I had spent the last 20-something years moving with him and supporting his career, and this was probably going to be my last chance to do something like this before I became too old. I also assured him that family comes first, and if at any time my doing this became more of a detriment than an asset to the family unit, I would quit. After all, it's my desire to put my family first (in this case, just a husband and an elderly set of parents). I just wanted to complete my Bucket List while there was still time. After that, he seemed to "get it", and although he's not thrilled, he's being as supportive as he can.

Peter in Saint Augustine, Florida said: The process will be something like this.

All applicants will be ushered into a meeting room on the third floor. When the ASA reps. come in the will give a brief overview of the company and then each candidste will be asked to introduce themselves to the group. This is the time you will need to sell yourself to ASA. Tell them why you want this position and say something other than "I love to fly"....if you have any professional FD,RN,EMT,PD,Military let them know that. If your career was in other areas of customer service make sure they know it. Be polite, smile but not robotic. It is OK to use some humor in your presentation but nothing over the top.

After this portion the ASA reps. leave the room and in about 30 minutes will opost a list of names of those who stay and those who go. The second phase is a reading of a public announcement and at the end of that another cut. That cut may have FTF interview. Those that are asked to stay after that may get to have a medical, phisical, drug screening and fingerprinting done with an offer for a training date (that's how mine went). Sometimes they will make notifications a few weeks later pending the outcome of your background check. Have your passport with you if you have one and if not start getting one.

Hope this helps, good luck and I a sure you will do well.

Peter

Thanks for this very helpful information Peter :)....I take it the interview (3rd floor) is at an ASA building?...can you recommend the closest hotel to this building (I am flying up from Ft. Laud. the day before the interview). THANKS! :)

GATOR - I didn't have much luck cutting and pasting, but here's what you do:
Go to www.hotelsanddeals.com
Type in the address: Toffee Terrace, College Park, Georgia
You will get a list of all of the hotels in the vicinity of your open house.

They used to do it at their corporate offices, but it's possible that they're using a hotel now. Do you have an address or anything?

Last Friday, they called me and told me to be "on the lookout" for my "travel authorization" packet and told me I would interview this Tuesday, 3/18. I called them today because I was worried that I still didn't have my "travel authorization" packet. They told me not to worry that I should get it Friday or Saturday and that they were "looking forward to seeing me on Tuesday". They said this packet in the mail would explain everything to me (i.e. where the interview is). They also said that I was "on the list" for Tuesday. I hope the interview site is near the airport or a Marta station! Thanks again! :)

The interview for ASA is in their corporate offices right at the airport, near Flight Safety. I am in class with them right now, and I see interviewees all the time on the 3rd floor! :)

Good---that is what I do in court everyday (trial attorney here)! :)...I think my law degree scares people off but I have always wanted to be a FA and I have been going for it for a long time---getting a chance seems very difficult--I have been trying for years! It wasn't until recently it seems that the airlines are hiring more.

You're exactly right. They all went on a hiring spree right before the first of the year.
Hmmmm - giving up a law career to make $16/flight hour as a f/a. Are you as crazy as the rest of us? LOL

I can almost assure you that ASA or Republic (whom I am starting training with in 2 weeks) will hire you. Between those two, you just need to do your homework and figure out which company meets YOUR needs better. ASA gives you the opportunity to work as the sole f/a on some of their aircraft. They also have ATL as their only base. Republic has 3 different carriers, with several different bases to choose from. But they do not use just one f/a - ever (different aircraft). You will also want to do some homework on each of these company's reputations within the industry.

You wouldn't want to walk anywhere in that area. (And, being from the south myself, you will want to wear your shoes). LOL

I have been trying my heart out for years--United flew me to Chicago twice for interviews, I have also interviewed with Alaska Airlines, and Horizon Airlines. I am very outgoing (typical Gator fraternity type), in excellent physical shape (gym dude), and I have wanted to do this since 9th grade (and it shows in interviews I am sure). Being a trial attorney, I am used to public speaking!(people after the interviews that interview with me are always shocked I don't get picked). Of course, a Southern airline would be my fav--as that is home--go SEC!...my heart is just so sick of getting "rejected"--I feel like the tv commercial for chemistry.com! LOL...I am also older.

I noticed on ASA's website just today that Cincinnati is also a hub now? (and I noticed in their questionnaire that they asked if you would mind working out of new hub if they opened one up!?)

I am relieved you got your packet in the mail today---you are in Mississippi---correct? so, you are closer than the Gator Florida boy in Ft. Lauderdale---maybe I will get mine tomorrow. I am going to book my hotel once I get my packet---the interview is at corporate headquarters? tell me what else is in the packet---I was told that Red Roof Inn is closest to the corporate headquarters (read threads on here). What day did they call you and tell you you were coming 3/18--they called me last Friday. (trying to figure out when I will get my packet!)It sounds like they give you input as to where to stay? Give me the address of the corporate headquarters. Thanks!

BYRDIE - I have no idea, since it's been 4 years since I applied with them. I think that some of these folks who are chatting on the forum tonight may be able to tell you, though.

Oh, and GATOR - fess up - you're doing this for the chicks, right? LOL. Sorry, I had to pick on you a bit, since we're both having that crisis that we talked about. :)

hello,
They called me on Frida as well. The packet has a travel letter with a code that you give the airline when making your reservation.
The only 2 hotels it lists is the Red Roof Inn and the Reaissance Hotel Concorse location.
If you are driving thre is a # to call for directions:
404-766-1400 X 2291
it also says :
once you arrive at ground transportation take the Renaissance hotel shuttle and ask the driver to drop you off at the ASA building.

I am a little different....one I can take care of myself and I know when I retired from NYPD I took care of most of the housework and child care which allowed my wife to work her schedule unfettered........she was able to come and go as she please and as the job demanded........it was much less stressful for her in the fact that she didn't need to worry about our child or the home. I will say that she was much happier at the end of her career and she felt like she accomplished something and I did not mind at all......but her working PD and being at the mercy of the department is a little different that being away as a FA. I have always supported her decisions and she knows that she has the freedom to make decisions as long as she comes home.

Not sure this helps but I am not a control freak as long as I know what is going on........if she ever felt like not coming home then we sat down and discussed things........thankfully we never had to
