i am not understanding. Is it a 40 pound bag or a 70 pound bag? how much weight do we have to lift above our head at the interview?

Thank you

I thought it was more like 70. But they do not tell you how much it ways. Just ask you to lift it up and back down 5 times. May be closer to 40 pounds. But I will tell you the weight is not dispersed evenly so be sure to use both handles.

Hi everyone, I'm pretty sure they said the bag is only 40lbs, it just feels like 70! I interviewed on the 29th of April, Everyone at ASA is great. I maybe shouldn't say because I don't want to scare anyone, but I did flunk lifting the bag 5 times. It is 5 times in 5 min. I got it up 2 times & knew I was out of time to do it 3 more. Everything else in the agility test is easy. Pulling the cart was a little harder than I thought but definetly do-able! I brought tennis shoes which helps you grip. I am pretty short so it seemed like I had to lift the bag pretty high. I asked to change back into heels to get the height, but you have to do the entire test in whatever shoes you start with. I'm sure you will do fine since most of the woman did it with no problem, including other short woman. I blaim myself for not being as in shape as I could be! I mainly just exercise on the treadmill & had slacked off on even that lately! Can you tell I'm embarrassed!!!! The testing is done at the drug testing place so you don't have to worry about how you look during the agility test. I can get in shape & re-apply in 6 months, which is what I plan on doing. It was a big wake up call to how out of shape I am!! As I said, please don't let my comments scare you. I'm pretty sure most everyone passes the bag test and I feel I can do it too if I get myself in better shape!!

If there is anyone out there from the 29th interview session I would love to hear how you are doing!! I met a lot of really nice people that day & appretiated the other ladies who cheered me on while I was trying to get that bag up!! I hope you all got the job & love it! See you all in 6 months!!

I'm sure you will be fine. If the guy doesn't say you out of time. Then continue on.

This scares me, 40 lbs in 5 minutes and then push and pull a cart? What kind of 15lb tray do we have to lift up?

Hello, my interview date was April 24th
Nikki, the way I look at the money issue is that this is something I have always wanted to do and I am assuming for you to (thats why we do this right) but I don't think any flight attendant does there job for the money, its more a dream issue. Sure the money isnt going to make you are millionare but hey its fun right!

that is true.. it isn't for the money.
I need to do some thinking soon so I can call ASA back and let them know my decision for training. My con list is just so much bigger than pros.. I need some Nikki time to figure this out lol.

It dosen't hurt to shop around though. There are Airlines hiring. In this Forumn someone said ASA is 15.65 a Flight Hour. I am not sure if this is correct. I have seen other forums for Regional airlines that pay more. What we need to do is weigh the whole package of each airline. But it dosen't hurt to shop around for the best fit for someone.

Hi Nikki, I had to reply at you pro and con list. I start training on the 12th My con list took up a lot of paper and my pro list was one sentence. I know that I can't afford to take this job but i can't afford to pass the chance up at this point in my life. I don't want to sit behind a desk the rest of my life. I am SO SO scared and SO SO excited. I know I will be in the company of many in my shoes!! Can't wait to meet everyone next Monday!!!

Have both airlines offered you a position with them? The reason I ask is because I would assume if you have already interviewed, etc., you should be aware of the pay - at least that is my assumption. It's usually one of the first things they tell you. If for some reason they didnt specify I would find another airline, it's probably not good if they don't advise you of an amount. lol

If you have yet to apply, my suggestion is to saturate many different airlines with your resume/applications - and THEN at that time you can decide what works best for you. Unfortunately the industry is highly competitive and you may want to wait until you receive an offer before worrying about what airline to go with.

Much luck!! =)

If it were me I would choose ASA. They are among the top Regional Airlines and who knows what's going to happen to Pinnacle later on down the road with the merger and all. I would keep my options open if I were you. Go to the interviews, listen to what they have to say and base your decision off of which you feel the most comfortable with! That is what I would do!

Here's my 2 cents, for what it's worth: I had interviews with several of the big guys and ASA. The difference on the staff that conducted the interviews were like night and day. I did get an offer from the big guys but the ASA staff and the support that they offered was beyond the others. Some of the major airlines do pay a little more but for me not worth the choice. Besides, Atlanta is supposed to be beautiful!

ASA flight hour pay is $15.65 for 0-6 months, it goes up to $17.75 for 7-12 months, 2cd year there is another increase
75 flight hours, per diem $1.50

I am an ASA f/a and I love it. This is NOT a job you do for the money. If you are looking to make money, head on down the road...being a f/a is not the job for you. Ive spent alot of money so far....going out with the crew on overnights, etc... This is a job you do for the love of it.

ASA AFA is in the process of renegotiating a contract. Our current contract expired in 2002.

As far as the bag.... yes that is typical of what you have to endure. Not being ugly or mean, but if you are sweating over a 40# bag, not a good start. I have lifted some heavy bags into the overheads. Also think of your own bag, you may have to carry it up/down stairs...not all out stations have bridges.

I read allot of your Posts on this Forumn and I have allot of respect for you guys. I agree about what you said about the money. I actually am self employed and I have another income as well. But I also thinks a wise person shops and see's what is best for their family. I don't want to take a job and three weeks later quit and say this isn't for me. So my point is it is good for someone to know what they are getting into.

May I ask have you been able to fins a crash pad in ATL or do you just get a hotel room. Good Luck, Bill.

Hi Bill

I have a question.
What are the benefits on ASA?
Is the flight benefit only on ASA, or you can take flights on any other Delta connections, and/or Delta?

Thank you

Bill and "G",

Your benefits start 30 days after the first day of training. Your training only last 17 days BUT they get you the hotel room for 30 days so you can stay there after you get done with training. You can travel on Delta, Delta Connection and a few others. You can also ID90 on American. You will learn more about the travel privilages in training.

Our class graduated today 5/6/08... We started with 29 all 29 pass the final and were on the road to success but, something happen during our base tour and one of the girls was released. Please watch your attitude at all times. Just because you pass all test does not mean you are a shoe in. During the open house that said that you could not fail a test, you can actually fail 2 and retake. No retakes on entrance, or final. Take your time, the home study that they give you, the exam the following day comes from that.
