HEARTKIN - You are SO funny! I think that the plastic surgeon's office would be ideal. I ran into a plastic surgeon acquaintance of mine a couple of weeks ago, and was teasing him about letting me come into his practice and do the psychological assessments prior to his surgeries. I've worked the ER before (again, doing the psych. assessments) - I don't think the ER is the place for me. You've probably got the right idea - bartending. No blood and guts. |

Nothing about a layoff or furlough... But we have gotten emails regarding needing people to take TOWOP (time off without pay) and part time vacancies available. Those are some of the options that the airline has in the contract before they can even think about furloughing. |

Did you see the letter from Brad today. I like that guy as he is honest and talks about it. That is huge. I am glad i work at ASA. |
|
ThatsQueenMary2U in Atlanta, Georgia 4 months ago |
I GOT A LINE FOR AUGUST!!! I might as well enjoy it while I have it, cause I am sure come September I will be at scheduling's beck and call again. BTW, the new contract was ratified today. |
|
Bill in Atlanta, Georgia 4 months ago |
Thats cool you must be happy. Have you flown much in the past week. I have been on reserve since Friday and only one NAP. Did U get a email from the Union I did see the one from Brad. |
|
ThatsQueenMary2U in Atlanta, Georgia 4 months ago |
Yes, got one from the union. I just got off a 3 day trip. Exhausted by it. |
|
Bill in Atlanta, Georgia 4 months ago |
I think I got that email but do u have a copy of the new contract. It sounds like they love to fly you. Sorry you are so tired. I am sitting here ready to go. |
|
ThatsQueenMary2U in Atlanta, Georgia 4 months ago |
Yes, the contract was mailed to my house. I have emails that I have gotten from the union in the past highlighting the changes. If you want them let me know and I will email them to you. My email is maryshank@gmail.com. This is a low month for me. I am at 50hrs block. Next month I have 90hrs of credit. I am excited about it. I am tired cause the 3 day I did was about 20 hours. Alot of time in the air and we were delayed yesterday due to NYC ATC. |
|
Bill in Atlanta, Georgia 4 months ago |
You don't have to tell me about NYC ATC. I lived in CT most of my life and flew from LGA all the time. I was always late. I will shoot u a email in a sec. Thanks a bunch. |

Joe Delta in Atlanta, Georgia 4 months ago |
Hey Bill and Mary, Steph just finished a four day trip yesterday and is totally exhausted. Mary how long were you on reserve before you held this line coming up?? |
|
Joe Delta in Atlanta, Georgia 4 months ago |
Bill...How many trips have you had since you finished training. |
|
Bill in Atlanta, Georgia 4 months ago |
Joe, This is only because of the time of without pay leave for this month. We have 50 people on TOWP. I talked to Steph on Sat and I was bored and wanted to fly. Than Steph talked to me about her schedule and I said so what if I am bored. Tell her I said not to quit. |
|
ThatsQueenMary2U in Atlanta, Georgia 4 months ago |
Got a line in 4 months. Not usual. i only got it because of the TOWOP that was offered. I am sure that I, along with many others above me, will be back on reserve when the summer schedules die down. |
|
Bill in Atlanta, Georgia 4 months ago |
Joe, I went online this past Friday and I had one NAP to Hiton Head on the ATR Sat night. I loved it and hope I get more. I am on Reserve to Wed night. |
|
CRJJ in Atlanta, Georgia 4 months ago |
Does anyone know how scheduling distributes trips to reserves? |
|
Thatsqueenmary2u in Stockbridge, Georgia 4 months ago |
its supposed to be awarded by hours flown and days available. |
|
CRJJ in Atlanta, Georgia 4 months ago |
well it sure does not seem that way Mary. Some people have 20hrs while others have over 40 hours. |
|
ThatsQueenMary2U in Atlanta, Georgia 4 months ago |
Well CRJJ... Thats the way it it supposed to be, but as with everything in this industry it changes at the drop of a hat. |
|
RJ in Atlanta, Georgia 3 months ago |
Hi QUEENMARY2U - How's the summer flying? I heard that you got a line. Congratulations. Hope that it holds out for you. Maybe you can hang on to it until they resume training and get some more people under your seniority. Have you had any CHS layovers yet? Email me and tell me where you all stay there. |

Hello everyone. I just found this online conversation. I have interviewed and am just waiting for the next training class to get started. I passed the background check & am on the list. I am hoping a class will start by late September or Early October. Does anyone have any new information? From reading the previous messages, it looks like the need is not very urgent currently. I really am anxious to get started. :) |
|
CRJJ in Atlanta, Georgia 3 months ago |
They once again offered towop "time off without pay" for the entire month of September, they also did that for August. It seems as they will be doing this for the remainder of the year, for this month they gave 50 people the month off, i feel sept. will be more as it is slow time. |

OMG THE SAAB 340 34-SEAT AIRCRAFT!!!!!! Are you kidding me?!? You'll be deaf within the first three months of flying that bucket of bolts. It's a Swedish made aircraft that has, just about every piece of emergencey equipment man has made on it! Just go to cdn-www.airliners.net/aviation-photos/photos/5/8/5/1344585.jpg. I'm suprised that the FAA still lets this plane fly.... Did I mention the plane is hotter than hell? |

There were several of us who got so far as a training offer back in June, and then they entered a hiring freeze. BUT, they WILL resume hiring once things settle down, probably around the first part of '09. If you already have a job that you can hold on to for a little while, you should get your training date eventually. Look at the bright side - you'll be home for the holidays this year. |

Thanks for your reply. I am glad to know that I will be hired once classes resume. I was hoping things would pick up in the fall before the Thanksgiving travel season. Do you think there is any chance of that? |
|
Bill in Atlanta, Georgia 3 months ago |
There is no chance of any hiring anytime soon. Sorry but that is the truth. We are holding our breath not getting furloughed. See my post about Colgan air. ASA has way too many FA's right now. |
|
RJ in Atlanta, Georgia 3 months ago |
LM - Don't be discouraged by the "naysayers". The only people who can tell you for sure are the HR employees, and like Duke with Bush's Baked Beans, "They're not talkin' ". LOL.

Amen RJ! Ive heard that things will start to pick up around Thanksgiving. Beginning of the year is a good estimate, RJ. :) |

I do agree with Bill saying that ASA has too many f/a's right now. They are offering Voluntary Reserve Day Drops to line up with the need. |
|

Hey Queenie! Thanks. I just don't want to see people getting discouraged when, sooner or later, they WILL get their day in the sun. |

RJ..You are my mentor! GOOD LUCK TO ALL WHO HAVE NOT HAD THEIR TRAINING CLASS! I WILL WAIT IT OUT! LETS KEEP OUR HEADS UP AND KEEP SMILIN! WE WILL GET THEIR SOONER OR LATER! KEEP SMILIN! |

Bill in Atlanta, Georgia 3 months ago |
RJ and others please note we tell you the truth as we are on the front lines. I wish all of you would be hired but that really won't be the case. This happened to me at United the exact same thing. I was going to be based in DCA hours from my house. 2 weeks before class they canceled the class. I was devastated and hoped for the best like you guys did. Others told me to find any FA job that was avail and I did. I landed with ASA and for me it was in my best interest. I talked to a United FA the other day who told me what we are telling you in United's case they are laying off hundreds of FA's right now. So for me I am lucky to be at ASA. Why me and not you I don't know. To be honest it is a little hard for me as my family is in VA and I am here in a crash pad. That is hard for me but there is a reason for everything. I see them for 1-2 days every week. It hurts but I have a job But there are other Airlines hiring so instead of waiting for something not there look for something else. Call me a nay sayer that is fine but I work for ASA I see the emails and I am on the Line. They won't be hiring anytime soon. Each month they are asking people to take the month of without pay. They are also loosing 100 lines why would they hire new FA's. Some day you might thank me for being honest. I hope I am wrong and you all get hired. But I am just telling the truth. Bill |
|
Trish in Maryville, Tennessee 3 months ago |
Bill, I believe that everyone believes what youre saying but we also have to keep a little hope in all of this. And, I also believe that not one single person here is just sitting around waiting for a training class with ASA. Im sure we are all looking and interviewing with other airlines as well. I was actually hired before you but chose a later date. That doesnt mean that I am sitting here dwelling on it. I have other opportunities as well. It seems the only time that you are on the forum now is to correct others who just want a little hope. Let us a least have our hope. |
|
RJ in Atlanta, Georgia 3 months ago |
BILL - We understand that you were just hired and that you feel as though you've got all the "411" on what's going on, but please stop making such discouraging statements to other people on here. I don't think you would have liked it if someone had done that to you a few short months ago when you were waiting to have an interview.
|
|
RJ in Atlanta, Georgia 3 months ago |
TRISH - So you decided to wait it out? Have you talked to Heartkin? She's so excited about starting next month. Glad to talk to you again! It's been a while. |
|
Bill in Atlanta, Georgia 3 months ago |
Thats fine but as a friend do you want me to be honest and tell you the truth or give you false hope. I could very much be on the outside soon as well as we are hearing possible furloughs. Again I do hope the best for you but from those in the front lines it doesnt look good right now. If I was a betting man I would say they possibly could hire after the holidays. Peace |
