You just need to consider the importance a positive attitude for some people. They only have to read the news to know what's going on in the industry. If HR says that they'll resume next year, then let people focus on that, and not continually hear negative statements. After all, we DO want them to be patient and wait for ASA, and not go to another airline that they may not be as happy working for. That's all.

RJ in Atlanta, Georgia said: BILL - We understand that you were just hired and that you feel as though you've got all the "411" on what's going on, but please stop making such discouraging statements to other people on here. I don't think you would have liked it if someone had done that to you a few short months ago when you were waiting to have an interview. RJ it is not discourajing but the truth. You are right but I was lucky. Why me I don't know. I also think you are wrong as you are giving people false hope when it is not there. We are on the front lines. Queen Marry said the same thing. I do feel bad for you espically Trish who I am friends with. She got hired waited for a cool reason and didn't make it. Now lets drop this talk I wish you guys the best and hope you are on the line someday. But it won't be tomorrow. But RJ don't give people false hope when it isn't there. |

RJ, I would be the first to agree with you that I am a no it all. My wife would be the second to agree with that. Who knows maybe in the spring you will show this no it all wrong and be on the line with me. That would make me happy that I was wrong. Peace |

OK....Bill, I see the same emails that you do. But I do know that this is just a reduction in the flying FOR NOW, not forever. The summer flying ends the 18th, so it will be slow. But it will be picking up. With the DCI carriers getting axed, it could all change in a drop of a hat. They will resume hiring, just not this week. But who knows, next week could be a different story. The airline industry is an ever changing one and you cant predict one week to the next. RJ has been in this industry for a long time (she is married to a DL pilot), so she knows that nothing is set in stone. Get past the holidays and I am sure that I will be seeing you all on the line.... |

I am waiting it out as I still have another job. I am actually relocating to CHA where my son is going to college for now. Im trying to transfer with CoEx if at all possible with airport services. If not, I may be going airport services with Delta until something SPECTACULAR happens. HaHa! Yes, I have talked to Heartkin. I believe a few nights ago. She has a very positive attitude as well about Pinnacle. Lets all keep our fingers crossed that the economy gets back on track. Also, Lets keep the faith and let our love for the aviation industry make us the best FA's possible! |

Hello all, The beginning of 09 is when they will resume hiring. Sure, they've asked people to take time off. Yes, we were reduced to fewer lines (I don't know the exact number)
Bill, where have you heard about possible furloughs? I haven't heard that |
|
Bill in Atlanta, Georgia 3 months ago |
Rumors from the line. Trust me I am number 5 from the bottom so I will be the first to go. I know that they are rumors and I hope and pray it dosen't come to pass. When we got that email earlier in the month about too may FA's on staff the rumors started. Before I get 500 emails I know they are just rumors and you can't believe what you hear. I agree with you with what you said I think they will start hiring next year early. I do wish everyone the best of luck who are frooze. |
|
nicole in Lawrenceville, Georgia 3 months ago |
Well since some of this is hear say: What I hear is ASA has Never (but never say never) furloughed. They would do just asked they are doing now offering TOWOP. A pilot told me that this is the first time in 9 years they have offered it to them. He said "it's offered more so to Flight Attendants" IMO, once they found out that Delta would be reducing Fall's schedule of course hiring had to come to a halt. However,be encouraged future asa line holders and know that one day right around the corner you will be stressing out over the next test just like all that have come before you:) |

Bill - I dont know where you have heard the possible furlough rumors but I have never heard them. Of course its on the back of everyones minds, but the part time and TOWOP are offered to prevent furloughs. |
|
Bill in Atlanta, Georgia 3 months ago |
Here in my crash pad is all ASA FA's. That is all I hear. Trust me I am the first to go if that happends. The word is all the pilots, senior FA say they will offer early retirement etc. As I said it is just rumors. Plus they have said they have never seen TOWOP offered as much like it is now. As well as the VRD. This is what I hear like I said it is all rumors. I will say this I hope I am wrong and next week everyone gets hired. I will buy them all a crew meal!!!!! I also know Pinicale is hiring and other airlines here in ATL and elsewhere. The only reason that I opened my big mouth in the first place was just to be real and honest. If someone gets a offer from another Airline they should take it as we simply don't know what tomorrow will bring. I hope the best for everyone. |

Hello Boys and Girls, Please everyone take your seats. No one can really predict what is going to happen with the airline industry. I am sure you all were told in training whatever you hear online, nine times out of 10, it is a rumor. You cannot believe everything you hear and read. I was invited to training only to have the training cancelled. I was told the first of the year, now training is a couple of months. So, with that said, ASA can very well open up in days, weeks or months. So let's stop the negative talk and concentrate on the positive.

Cat in Mission Viejo, California said: RJ, CAT - No one is picking on Bill. His gloom and doom posts are getting old - we all saw them the first time, and don't need to be reminded daily. For your info, I have a very realistic of the airline industry, having been in it since 1987, both as a spouse AND as an employee myself. I left the f/a position in April. But Bill doesn't need to be needlessly discouraging these people who are trying for the first time. We've got plenty of other ASA f/a's on here who give a much more objective picture of the hiring environment. And unless you've met Bill personally, you are lacking some information. |
|
Bill in Atlanta, Georgia 3 months ago |
You know RJ I have remained quiet and have asked to drop the issue. My gloom and doom post are more realistic versus the fake hope that you are misleading others. Actually Cat and I although we never met have been friends for 6 months when I was in your boat at United and Cat told it to me far worse than I told it to you. In Uniteds case Cat was right had I not listened to Cat I would still be home waiting for United to call as I had your approach. Don't believe me look at my posts in United in this forumn. Guess what instead of being hardheaded I looked into other airlines and I got lucky by being hired. Also when have you and I met? Or do you know me? I happened to have a really positive outlook on life and I am always a the glass is half full type of person. However what my posts are were based on what happened to me having my United Class Canceled and having the same approach that you had. I than realized maybe I better not sit and wait for something that may or may not happened but might want to be proactive if I want to be a FA. Guess what I did and I am a FA. That is what I was saying and guess what I would never had a shot at United there hiring manager said in March classes would start in the fall just like Pam did. Are they? no Cat a 20 year vet is now on reserve. That is not doom and gloom but realistic. Now I have said on here 50 million times I hope that I am wrong and that all of you get hired. Also the honest truth is no one knows what will happened here at ASA. I don't Queen Mary dosen't the bottom line is we are hearing that Delta is removing 100 lines in Sept. If that is true do you really think they will hire soon. The point is in ASA case Delta is their customer so if Delta says hey we need to save money here ASA dosen't have a option. My problem with you is that you have this "Disney World" approach here when it might just not happened and it could mislead others who might be able to find work as a FA elsewhere. |
|
Bill in Atlanta, Georgia 3 months ago |
I am dropping this issue I said my peace on this Forumn I will not comment at all about this issue anymore. Again I hope I am wrong and you all are hired. Was Cat wrong when she told me the same thing at United? I have heard the Piedmont and Omni are hiring in ATL, as well as others I suggest to those that you look there. ASA management did send a email that I posted that said we have way to many FA's here at ASA. So don't blame that on a no it all new hire like myself. Team, At present our current Flight Attendant staffing has put us in the position to offer assignment drops to all Regular Lineholders and Reserve Flight Attendants. This is on a first come, first served basis and is a cost saving measure as a result of excess Flight Attendant staffing. This will only apply to those trips or reserve shifts from August 07, 2008 at 15:00 through August 31, 2008. Please review all specific details as outlined in the document attached to this e-mail. Regards, Your Inflight Service Management Team |

Hmmm - I hadn't considered that my approach was "Disney World", but if that's what being considerate of these peoples' feelings is all about, then guilty as charged. However, if they want factual information, they can access it from more reliable sources than the SPECULATION provided on this forum. My agenda is to insure that candidates know that there is a light at the end of the tunnel for them. And saying things like, "You're not going to be hired any time soon" doesn't exactly do that, does it, Bill. |

I just wanted to mention to you all that I was given a CJO by ASA and waiting for training only to be told classes were cancelled. I went to a Pinnacle open house and was hired and am awaiting training there. Please don't put all of your eggs in one basket... I hope ASA will resume hiring, but am hoping my training goes through at Pinnacle. By the way, there is an open house tomorrow, Tuesday [August 18] in Atlanta. I would really like to encourage y'all to go. I found the Pinnacle HR people ≥ Pam at ASA. Take a look at www.flypinnacle.com Good luck and God bless! |

I have a crash pad roomate who is a Pinnacle FA he loves them. He told me they are hiring as Delta was going to terminate their contract than they changed their mind so now they need FA's after they had a freeze. He told me he got a line in 2 months as I will be on reserve a while at ASA. I love ASA it is a great Airline I hope you all work here. But if you get a shot elsewhere go for it. Everything happens for a reason. Good Luck Forumn Lurker. |

Sorry for the scrambled words in my last paragraph, I tried to be fancy and use the greater than / equal to sign and it didn't quite transcribe correctly on the forum. Bill, I am glad to hear your roommate likes working at Pinnacle. Those brand new CRJ900s look very nice, and I also like the aspect of the two person crew. I understand since the contract with Delta has been extended Pinnacle will be taking delivery of even more -900s so looks like reserve will be very short! Good luck all, hope you can make that open house tomorrow. And a piece of advice, fill out the Employment Application on their web site and present it to them when you go for your introduction. The folks who had done this, and thus were prepared, were ALL called back for a face to face interview. |

There is no right or wrong here. There is the pessimistic view (Bill) and the optimistic view (RJ). Now throwing animated in there as in (Disney World View. I don't think so, Bill given RJ's age, previous experience in this field and being married to a pilot for many years I highly doubt she has an animated (Disney View). She is optimistic. And that is what people come here for advice and optimism. If anybody wanted dismal all they have to do is read the news. But instead they come here to help each other wait it out. Something is going to happen after the Merger. What we don't know. It is going to depend on the DOJ and the Election. All of the regionals only fly what NW and Delta give them and the management does not know that till the middle of every given month. Thats what people need to understand. So the best advice is stay closely tuned in the buisness already or trying to get in. The airline buisness is like the stock market it changes daily. And I mean daily. As a posting can be here today and gone tomorrow as we have seen. ASA will move again, anybodys guess when. Until then we need opitmistic people to help us hang in there. And we need FA's telling us what we need to know to get prepared. Heck theres a good posting on the Compass site someone did a very good job teaching Zulu time. Loved it. We all know about the airline industry. BILL tell us about being an FA. How long does it take you to get ready for work? My God how do you keep tract of your time for pay? Do your pilots use Zulu time? What are the airports like? What has TSA been like?? Do you bring your camera? Any goofy passenger stories? I know I am not going to work for ASA so no flames please. Just tring to get thru the wait myself. |

Bill in Atlanta, Georgia 3 months ago |
As agreed I am not going to discuss my diffrences with RJ or my feelings about the hot topic. I actually love being a FA and ASA is a great airline. I actually alreadly have some funny storys like the time we were on the runway ready to take off and some passenger put their bag in the aisle and left it there so I went on the PA and got them to put the bag back under the seat. The only problem was when I went to hang up the phone I accidently called the Flight Deck just as the plane was starting its roll by hitting the flight deck call button by accident. If you call during roll some pilots might abort take off. I simply didn't do anything else but pray to god that the plane would keep on taking off and not stop. Thank god he kept on rolling and than called me when it was safe and we both laughed more me about it. It is a neat job. He did say he heard me go on the PA so he thought I hit the button when hanging up the phone by accident. |

I know. We all know us FA's don't have any. I always love it when I show up you can see the look if it is the 50 seater oh know we are stuck with a guy and we can't hit on the FA. Than they realize I am married and straight and usually we have fun talking about sports etc. |

Ok folks here is some food for thought. Couple things worth mentioning. 1). When Delta offered the buyout packages, they did not expect to loose 800 F/As. If I am not mistaken everyone who elected to take a package will be gone by sept or oct. ( It may vary from work group). But I do know they were not expecting 800 F/As to take it. Now with the merger looming they will probable offer another one. Once the dust settles they well start the hiring process. They usually grab alot of regionals f/a's.. 2). I do not see a fourghlough happening. Even if there is an overage. There is still a high turnover with regional F/A's. It may not be as many per month as in the past right now due to the fact good jobs are hard to come by but there is still an attriation ratio. We have had overages here at Delta and they have in the past let normal attriation takes its course. Plus... this slow time is just for a very short period. I looked at the ASA senoririty for F/A's. If I am not mistaken the mean average is 5yrs. or under...that not very high so that in its self tells me they have a high turnover. I know there are some with more than 5 plus yrs. I am just talking the (average)... Just my two cents.. Hang in there!! |
