I arrived at outer loop drive at 7:20am this morning. Then I walked into a big conference only to see we've been labeled and were assigned group a, b or c.
The Delta Reps. seemed nice, but fake. Each group rotate from (S.T.A.R. Interview) - (Stretch and Touch) - (Delta flight attendants provided Q&A for to us) - (DOT Drug Test) - (Update Application). They said we were the lucky ones. This month, they were only interviewing around 400 people out of the 40,000 that applied. THEN, if we made the cut, our pay would be minimum wage ($5.85) for 6 weeks working and we would be working 6, 12 hour days during the night. For example, 1pm to 1am. After training, our pay would go up to around $9 an hour. WOW...during the 2-3 phone interviews, someone should have mention that DELTA needed some pets to keep in New York. Your right, Delta is interview in Atlanta, for people to fly out of New York. And, no, you do not get travel time to and from work. BIG ANNOUNCEMENT!!!! Delta doesn't waste money on a DOT drug test until after you get the job. Also, please get your breakfast before you go. The only give you crackers, nuts and drinks from 7:30 to 12:30. Delta Rep. dropped their fake smiles, as soon as they found them few young, attracted, flunkies to give their DOT drug test to. I DID NOT FEEL LUCKY DOING THIS INTERVIEW PROCESS, BUT I DID FEEL TRICKED

Well, Delta is borderline bankruptcy -- What did you expect?

I mean, the company outsources their GO crews. Blah. Crazy mofos on the ramp.

i just went on the interview, and even though it was tough I made it through, and i feel that the opportunity they give is amazing. The reason they only pay minimum wage is b/c they have classes that start with close to 300 candidates whom they don't know will even pass the training academy. Also i think its fair b/c they do provide housing & transportation to & from the training facility for 6 weeks!!! so from a buisness perspective they are doing well over what they need to. I have been on interviews were the training camp was in texas where they didnt pay anything for training, not to mention you were on your own for transportation costs and had to room with 3- 4 other applicants & they only gave you $20 a day for food!!! And ya' know what, if you are that upset that you might have to be based in another state there was a box that asked if you were willing to relocate and you were more than welcome to check NO. Also in the interview Q & A aspect the rep stated that there are more than 50% of employees who don't reside in thier base state/ area and commute to that station for work. They were looking for the best b/c they have a great reputation, thats why the military & other airlines have thier flight attendants train at the delta facility... that included the flight attendants who serve the president on air force one! Maybe this type of work just isn't for you and you might like being a ticket agent better.

I have just passed my last telephone interview and I am scheduled to fly to Atlanta for my final. I must admit that I am pretty scared at this point. Especially after reading these blogs. Can anyone tell me what this final interview is about?

To my knowledge, Delta is THE ONLY carrier that pays you while you are in training. All the other carriers justify not paying you because technically you are not yet an employee. You are not offered employment until you pass training. Maybe you don't agree but $5.85/hour is better than nothing at all. Also, about the food. This is training for passenger safety onboard an aircraft, not a tasting of inflight cuisine. Bring your own lunch!!! Slim-fast is cheap, so are carrots sticks...take your pick.

Well the final interview is just like a phone interview but in person. when you arrive they will check your documents. make sure you have copies of everything they asked you to bring including your liscence or ID. then you will be brought into a room where all of the applicants are held. They will then bring you into the "deltatorium" for an orienteion about the company history. Here is where they will get to know who you are as well. Everyone will stand up and say who they are, where they're from, what languagues(if any) you speak and alittle about yourself. Dont worry if you dont have another language I didnt and I made it into the academy. Also be honest & true to who you are. They are looking for fresh faces & attitudes with a hint of southern charm & hospitality. Next you are put into groups . Depending on your group you will either have an interview, one on one Q & A with a delta flight attendendant, or you'll have a reach test. In the interview, they will ask the same sorts of questions about your problem solving skills and about your past work experience as on the phone. then they will have you pick a laminated card from a series of 5 - 8 cards each one has a possible in-flight scenerio ranging from congratulating a couple on an aniversary, to addressing an intoxicated guest, to emergency landing. they will ask you to make a pretend announcement to the passengers and they will give you pen & paper to write down what you want to say and they give you plenty of time to do so. Take your time answering the questions & give your best & most honest answer, trust me they'll know if its bull! In the Q& A you'll be briefed on the day in the life of a flight attendendant where they cover everything from salary & scheduling to uniform & housing costs. Save all your questions for then & dont be afraid to speak up if you wanna know something! teh reach test is simple to see if you can easily reach the over head compartments & they'll take your picture.

Part 2!
While you wait they will have yo fill out another paper application to have on file. you can use your cell phone to get refrences phone number but its also a god idea to have your resume just incase you cant remember dates or phone numbers. Also note that your backround check , should you make it into the academy, HAS TO MATCH THIS APPLICATION (they do an extensive 10 year search) Also while you wait I beg you to interact with s many people as possible. other fight attendants will be walking around & watching you so they can asses how personable you are. Also joke with everyone. It makes the day go faster & it doesnt hurt to always be smiling. While you wait they do have sodas, water, juices, chips, crackers & peanuts available for you to snack on but be sure to eat breakfast b/c they dont provide full meals. After every one has completed the interview process they will call everyone back into the deltatorium & make thier selection process. Those who are called outside most likely make it into the academy & everyone else is sent back home. If you are selsected tehy will pull you into a room and let you and they others know you've made it!! then you will collect your belongings & be ussered to another building where you'll have you finger prints done electroinicslly, you drug test willl be given & yopur information will be entered into the data base. now this doesnt mean your employeed yet it means you made it to the training accademy. Now once your backround check & drug test come back they'll give you 2 weeks notice before you leave for traing to make arrangements about your bills & personal items you need to tend to. Then once traing comes i reccommend that you completely fopcus on this alone as you are gonna be tested every 2 - 3 days & there is alot of info your gonna need to learn. Im waiting to go to camp so I dont have any more info on that yet. I will you both well & if you arent selected this time dont be discouraged, just work on your skills

How's it going? I went to ATL and was offered a conditional job offer with Delta back in the beginning of January. I then, never got called back, even after passing my tests because the Spanish Assesment Exam I opt to take didn't go as well as I thought. They were going to hold my language assesment scores towards me in not getting a position when everything else passed and I have a college degree! I called Human Resources and complained. Yesterday (Feb, 18), I received a call that their overlooking the exam and asked me to report in ATL asap!!

Hi SB,

DELTA-ATLANTA in Suwanee, Georgia is abosolutely right. They (Delta) told me exactly the same thing. I agree, don't waste the time of honest Jobseekers, be upfront, tell if you are only willing to pay "minimum wage". You would have less work to do and don't waste your own time too.

They pay minimum wage for the training academy only, which is more than any other airline does!! most other airlines don't pay you anything when you train! after you graduate, the hourly STARTS at $19.10 per hour. It's the job seekers responsibility to research these well documented facts ahead of time. Who applies for a job and doesn't know these easily obtainable facts? I knew all of these things before I even applied because I wanted to make sure that the job was really for me. I think that's what most of us did....makes good sense doesn't it?

Hi!

Sarah makes a good point! That is a reason why you did not get the job. I went to the interview, and felt they were VERY upfront and honest about everything. I had done my "homework" and haD answers for most of questions regardless I brought a list with me and made sure I had the correct answers directly from them just in case I got the offer I would be able to make an informative decision. I also did my homework on other airlines, and learned that MOST don't even pay for training as many other people have said here.

I will see you guys at the class. However, my concern is that I have not study enough. Is anyone in the same position as I am?

yeah honestly this may sound trite but i only smoked pot twice and they were both about 3-4 weeks before my F2F. I never really experimented with any drugs before b/c i have medical issues and im afraid i'll go into shock but those 2 times were enough to stay in my system i guess b/c i cant explain it any other way. i dont even know if it will be worth it for me to re-apply to delta b/c i dont want them to think im a drug addict but they clearly seem to feel that way. i dont know what to do! if anyone knows the process id really appreciate some advice if i should even purse this anymore.

Hey everyone, just wanted to say congrats for making it this far! I am about to graduate from the acadamy next week on the 5th. Super excited. Delta is the PERFECT place to be right now for new hires. No other airline has the reserve system that Delta has. only 6 days of reserve. YOU CANT BEAT THAT! Delta is wonderful and there is NO OTHER airline I would rather be. I love Delta to my heart! Good luck in training! This is true that some airlines do not pay wages during the 5-6 weeks of training.
FYI: Alaska Airlines is one of those airlines who dooes not offer pay during training, nor do they fly you to their initial group interview, like most other airlines do, be it standby space available, at least the others do offer to fly you to them for the initial group interview. After one is selected as a candidate to move forward from the first interview that they paid out of their pocket to go fly to, then Alaska Airlines will pick up the tab on the next group type of interview those selected will move on to participate in.

I thought maybe they didn't like my assessment answers, but maybe they're backlogged right now... after all I've heard they have like 80,000 applications! Patience. I think that is the key. Is everyone ready for a pay of $17.000 yearly and their only one opening location in New York?
In my group some one stood up and asked a question :
"Can you please advice us how to make a living in New York from $17.000?
The answer was ; " It is a frequent question and our answer always is that every one have to make this decision alone "
Yes the paid training sound good...but when you have to pay $400.00 for your own uniform and that is only one set....i dont know....
Oh and about their HBO on the plane....yes you can watch it but only listen if you purcashe the headset...
Well...i wish good luck for every one but i am pretty sure i was not and wont be the only dissapointed one.
I have a pilot friend at an other airline , he told me the people who want to become flight attendant are love to travel , have no family , or want to be around pilots...well it might be true ...one thing i understood...there is a reason you only se 40 or older age flight attendant on airlines...long time ago it was a good pay...now it is terrible...so only old employees stay...i think delta should put more effort in hiring young good looking people instead of making their signature drink they are proud of beside HBO.
When it comes to languages ...they only pay $1.5 extra for it.I think every one foreign language worth more than that.
Well...in the meating they will explain that how $19.00/ hr makes only $17.000 a year...Not to mention it is only a part time job because you can not fly more than 30 hrs in 7 days.
Well it is the real fact...i was very dissapointed...

Thats not very accurate. its actually 21,000 per year if you work the minimun. You can pick up trips to add more hours. Lets not forget that Delta is not the only carrier that starts the FAs off at 19.10. Look at some other major carriers that start their FAs off at $17. Delta honestly has the best reserve for a new hire. As for the interview...everyone has their own persepective, but if you didnt enjoy it, then Delta isnt for you. You have to have the heart for the particular airline you choose. To have that loyalty is what creates a great airline. So if Delta wasnt your first choice then, find the one that is because you may be happier there, no matter what the starting pay. Good luck, and hope you find what your looking for!

I was just accepted after my F2F on Tuesday. I'm really worried though, because I will definately fail my French test. I thought when I filled out my first application that if you had ANY proficiency in a language to go ahead and state it and also be willing to be tested. I didn't realize that I had to be fluent. I know, I know, that was a stupid assumption. But I do know SOME French, and I understand it better than I can speak it. Anyway, will I be rejected because I fail the language test? I want this job so bad and need to know what might happen. Anyone out there know what usually happens to language flunkies? Thanks

Hi everyone, I am going for my f2f on wed. the 4Th. I am very excited but also nervous! Thank you to every one for there comments about the f2f in that I think it has helped me prepare for the whole situation. But if any one has any additional thoughts or advice then I would be very happy to here it! I am upbeat with out being obnoxious! Experienced with out being cocky. Friendly but not codependent! Every one I know says I will do good but I am also hope full with out being fully confident! It's a little hard when you don't know what to expect. :-( Any pointers on there expectations may give me the boost I need to be fully confident and prepared for any thing!! Thank You and good luck to every one elce :-)

Congrats on your F2F Kat! My best advice to you is dress sharp, relax as much as you can, be out going and talk to as many people as possible, smile, and convey as much confidence as possible. They are looking for people with great "stage presence" and problem solving skills. If you're wishy-washy, or shy it will NOT come across well. When you stand up to tell the room about yourself, be brief, smile, stand up straight, and make eye contact. There will be at least 2 FA in the back of the room taking notes and evaluating your presence. Also it wouldn't hurt to be one of the first people to volenteer to stand up, most of us chosen were in the first 10 to stand up. All in all it is a great experience, the employees make you feel at home and are very friendly and helpful. So, Relax and have fun, I know I did! I met some really great people. Good luck to you, I wish you the best!
