many factors play a part in you becoming a flight attendant. In addition to personality, ability, and customer service experience, knowledge is critical to your success.

Here, again, why don't you contact the airline and ask if you can apply. |
|
Displaced Legal Professional in Denver, Colorado 8 months ago |
Why don't you begin by running a Google (or search engine of your choice) on "Philippine Airlines," then select each airline in which you're interested, then find and click the "employment" link, and go from there? I don't intend any disrespect, but after reading so many similar posts I simply must respond. You obviously have internet. You should be able to figure out how to find airline employment information through internet research. As a flight attendant you are expected to be industrious and resourceful. Most posters here appear to be lazy and want others to do the research for them. If you cannot or will not apply yourselves you're not going to be hired as flight attendants. Just my two cents' worth. |

What Are The Qualities that a Person would look for when Interviewing people for a job? |
|
Displaced Legal Professional in Denver, Colorado 7 months ago |
Do you have experience that qualifies you to be a flight attendant? Even if you don't, maybe the airline saw something on your job application that made it want to interview you. You may have done fine in your interviews and testing, but the airline eventually felt you didn't have enough experience for it or it simply liked other candidates better. Airline hiring can be hard to figure. Airlines can interview twenty good, well-qualified people in a day - people who would do well for them - and not hire any of them. I agree that it's better for companies to be straightforward with job candidates. Unfortunately, it doesn't always happen. Good luck. |

what if you live out of country? Meaning not in Philippines but I would like to try out the flight Attendant career base in Philippines. I speak fluent English, Tagalog, a bit of Spanish, and Mandarin. Have an excellent smile- perfect teeth and standing at 5'4 ft, slim fitted body and looks is perfect as well. It's so hard to compete into this field, I've been into two interview already with Air Canada but they want someone who speaks fluent French- I think. I would really love to try the career in Philippines, any tips you guys can share to me? |

You probably need French to fly for Air Canada. Why don't you apply to American legacy carriers, such as United or Northwest? With your quals you'd be hired in a minute. American airlines are hiring FAs in droves. Good luck with your efforts. |

Hello,
But I actually just got a call from a Cathay Pacific Airways and would like to see me for an interview, any advice/tips you guys can share? I'm really looking forward to this one. |
|
Displaced Legal Professional in Denver, Colorado 7 months ago |
rosered: "I'm sure American airlines prefer someone who speaks fluent English and other languages." You said you speak fluent English, so what's stopping you from trying American carriers? Additional languages are a plus for American carrier FA candidates. Give it a shot. Stay away from the regionals; they don't pay that well. "I actually just got a call from a Cathay Pacific Airways and would like to see me for an interview, any advice/tips you guys can share?" Cathay has historically hired expat pilots and pays them good money. FA hiring and pay may be different. |

All the questions are similar. I don't want to response rudely to all the people who's very eager into applying into this challenging field but I have to admit that if you are willing to get into F/A you have to do a lot of EFFORT; I did many times of F/A JOB HUNTING ONLINE and as far as I know getting a 3rd interview in one year row is not bad at all. I really learned so much from each of the Airlines and Recruiter interviews. Plus- I'm becoming more aware of things to expect. I think one of the accomplishments I had was when I pass the three sessions of interview. Although it was a struggles especially going for an interview for the entire day with four different recruiter- but I manage to develop my communication skills and confidence. |

I hope I can help people with these. To be honest, if you want to apply for this F/A job- send your resume and cover letter ( make sure your resume format wordings are base into Flight attendant). There are actually tons of websites where you can apply. Click on on 'career' links. But all of the Airlines have different specific QUALIFICATIONS. Choose the one that interest you. rosered: "hmm what's stopping me? I'm a Canadian residence eh; but I will send my resume still. Thanks though." Of course you would need documentation proving you have the right to work in the U.S. Are you a Canadian citizen or Canadian resident? In any event, as a Canadian, can't you apply to any Commonwealth airline? Such as British Airways, Qantas, etc. "I...have to admit that if you are willing to get into F/A you have to do a lot of EFFORT...." Ahhh, someone finally "got it." In a word, it's initiative. Some people just don't understand that flight attendant is a professional aircrew position and is just as professional as pilot. Professionals have initiative and want to find out things themselves. Professionals are not lazy and don't depend on others to do their legwork for them. Once again, based on posts I've read on this thread, no one has shown much initiative to find out flight attendant requirements in the Philippines. Once again, querying the airline is all it takes. |

rosered: "Too bad *your students* did not perform well enough...." ????? My "students"? In any event, I stand behind my comments. Although "Displaced Legal Professional" is my screenname, I flew airplanes for several years and worked in professional aviation during that period. Take it from me, one gets nowhere in the industry without being a self-starter and having initiative. Just a little food for thought. Good luck with your efforts. |

Here again, if you want to be a flight attendant and fulfill your dream, you need to take the first step. Contact the airline for which you want to fly for the information you need. You need to show initiative if you want to be a flight attendant as badly as you say. No one is going to do the work for you. |

In the U.S. employers cannot legally ask questions about family. They can ask a candidate if the person has any commitments that may interfere with attending a regular work schedule. Non-U.S. anti-discrimination laws, if such exist, may be different. There is probably no upper age limit for being a flight attendant. I read that an 80+ year-old flight attendant recent retired. At age 26 your "friend" is old enough to be hired. |

As someone who is studying tourism, you should know enough to contact the airlines for which you want to work to find out their hiring qualifications. Try it. Show some initiative. One needs initiative to be a successful flight attendant. |

Once again, instead of asking others to do your research for you, why don't you simply ask the airlines in which you're interested for their hiring requirements. |

I have been a flight attendant for 18 years now and started flying for Philippine Airlines in 1990-1998. I got furloughed due to the pilot strike in 98.I never got my job back because it was the same time when the company was being privatized and bought out by Lucio Tan. A few of my friends are still with the company. Flying for PAL was quite an experience. We had really good layovers and good layover hotels. Our trips would go from 3-15 days. We had loooong layovers like 7 days Rome, 6 days London, 4 days Sydney!!! Oh my! It was so much fun. I miss those days. It sure is different flying with a US carrier. When I got hired this was the process. I don't think it changed very much since PAL is vey traditional with their hiring. Really old school. I had 3 panel interviews, a one on one and then if you make it through all that you go through medical, dental (no false teeth, caps, jackets, braces) and vision (must be 20/20, no contacts, glasses). I don't know if lasiks are accepted now. The entire process is about 2 months. Then you go to training for 3 months- yes! 3 months! We had a Php500 stipend a month. That training was just for flying the turbo props (Fokker 50 and SD-360 during my time) and after you graduate they base their new FA's in Cebu! FUN! in the beach everyday! I don't believe they have anymore props now. All the upgrading classes are based on seniority. After 2 years of flying the props I went to another 3 months of training for jet upgrading. These are all domestic flying and then I went through another 3 months of stringent International upgrading in 93 then you earn the big bucks! They have cars that pick up flight attendants from their home to the airport. Not have to worry about late or no show. We were pretty spoiled. So to get hired, you have to be a college graduate, at least 5'2 for women 5'8 for men, age 18-27 (during my time), speak english, no tattoos. PAL is a lifestyle not a career. Once you're there it's hard to get out. Good luck! |
|
Displaced Legal Professional in Denver, Colorado 1 month ago |
Your PAL experience was old school in more ways than one. Your experience sounds like the golden age of airlines and airline jobs - when being a pilot or flight attendant was truly a big deal. I'd bet being a Shorts FA was an experience in and of itself. Three **months** of training? How many days a week? How many hours a day? What were you taught? As you know, I'm sure, some U.S. regionals give flight attendants barely three **weeks** of training! Very interesting and informative post. I enjoyed reading it. Thanks for posting. |

i 'm 5'5" in height, good communication skills., but i don't know if i can make it as a flight attendant. I have some pimple scars and braces. Also, i had one of my teeth capped/jacket-ed. I'm losing hope for my future. I think I'm wasting money over my studies because I know I won't make it anyway. I'm a 3rd tourism student now. |
