Latinguy in San Juan, Puerto Rico said: DeltaFA, thank you so much for your kindness. I can ask you over 20 questions, being a former FA. I am a bit eager as I had a called from DAL for my F2F interview several weeks ago and I was in a business trip in Dubai. I called them and explained to them the reason I was not able to get in touch with them. I got back not too long ago and I got a call on Friday saying that they are looking forward in speaking with me and that they will set up a F2F interview soon. Hi Eddie, I know exactly what you mean! It's nice to see that you want to come back to flying...I think once you do it, it always stays a part of you! It's hard to explain the freedom and flexibility this job actually offers. I think many people actually realize when they are no longer doing it! So addicting! As far as what I fly...well.. being based in New York...that would be anything and everything. If international flying is really what you want to do, than this is the airline for you! The variety of flying is just unbelievable! I like to fly a different trip everytime I fly, so I go all over the place...this month I only did two trips to India and Africa...and next month I'm off to Nice, France and Sao Paolo, Brazil....so Delta offers you places that you really can't work to as a FA with many other airlines...Hope this answers your questions! |

Vilija in Monroe, Michigan said: I just wanted to say you are the bomb as far as info! I had to fill out and apply tonight because of everything you have told everyone on these forums. Delta sounds like the place I should've started out a year ago. Do you have a contact where I can reach you. I've already spoke w/ them twice tonight. You are very thorough especially for the newbies who don't understand flight time, etc. Kudos to you!!!! That was nice of you to say, Thanks! That's what we are all on here for...to help with getting on with Delta. I really do love my job, as you can probably tell, and I just want others to be as happy as me, too! Feel free and ask any questions you may have...although I most definitely won't be able to answer them all, you will see that there are many people on here more than willing to help! Good luck and happy to see that you got the bug to apply! It seems like you'll fit in well! |

There have been plenty people on here in your shoes--and got hired! The only thing I have seen with this scenario, is that the process may take a bit longer. You would've never known if you didn't try and I'm sure they see your effort. Besides, at least now you have an idea what the language test is like, and if you do want to retake it in the future, you have an idea how to prepare. Delta realizes that you at least have the potential to become a French language FA in the future. Everything in life happens for a reason, at this point, this is out of your control. Let me tell you, most FA's are NOT purely hired based on languages--it's the whole package they look at! So stay positive and hope you hear quicker than everyone else that was in your shoes before! :) |

Hi everyone...Just had a quick question that may have already been answered, but since there are over 10,000 posts in this thread i don't have time to go through them all. SO....I had the assessment and 1st phone interview with a recruiter. Got an email that instructed me to fill out the online app which I finally got completed after about 2 weeks...So, I finally got all my info together and hit "complete" on the online app and..nothing....no email, no instructions on what to do next...Is a phone call or email on the way? Is it just a waiting game now? How long should i expect to wait? What kind of questions are asked in the 2nd phone interview? Are all the current new-hire classes already filled?

DeltaFA in New York, New York said: Congrats Emeitalia! You seem to be on top of things already! No wonder Delta chose you! (And many other reasons, too, I'm sure!) I am so excited for you! It brings back so many wonderful memories of training--I really enjoyed it alot! You will meet many amazing people, that you will bond with throughout your journey together! Study hard and enjoy it--it'll be over with before you know it!
I thought of something else...do they have public fridges in the dorms and/or the hotels for trainees to use? I'm a vegetarian and have some specific dietary requirements...I also know someone who lives in the area that's willing to take me to a grocery store, so I just wanted to know if I would be able to refrigerate my food. Also...do you know if you're able to have mail/packages sent to you while you're in training? Thanks!!! |

Hi 4nilla! As a commuter to New York myself, planning is the most important factor in making this work. You are very right, being a new hire FA, you will most likely get the less favored (non-commutable) trips. However... What you do have going for you, is that your assigned schedule after bids are announced every month, and at Delta, your schedule is far from engraved in stone! In other words, what you actually get as a schedule and what you actually fly are two different things! Our scheduling system is VERY FLEXIBLE, and as a new hire, even though you may get the bottom of the barrel trips, you can always swap and drop trips (and reserve days) freely with other FA's and possibly with the Delta avalable trips in the computer...so I will tell you, I rarely fly my original assigned schedule. Let's say you (like me) are commuting...you swap your original trips for commutable ones where you fly-in the same day of your trip from San Fran, do your trip, and fly back to San Fran at the end of your trip (most international trips are like this!)--so you can go back home between your trips. Second option is to back-up all your trips (fly trips in a row) so you can then go home to San Fran and have an extended period of time off. After you gain seniority, you will hopefully be able to transfer into any of the west coast bases (so it's at least a closer commute from San Fran for you than NYC)
Anything is possible...you just have to master working the scheduling system to make it work! I do it...so I know it is possible. Where there is a will, there is a way...just depends on how much you want it! It is VERY POSSIBLE AT DELTA! |

However, they did tell us not to be discouraged because it is possible they may call with job offers at a later date... well, that is true because two weeks ago they called me back and offered me a FA position. I start training on the 29th of April. All of that was to say, stay strong.. and if you aren't offered immediate employeement, don't give up! If you want to fly... you will!! Good Luck everyone... hope to fly with you all soon! Lee, I am also in the 29th class do you know of anyone else? |

Delta FA, Thanks for all your great info! It is nice to here about someone who is enthusiastic about their job and about Delta! I have a few Q's I hope you can answer. What do the international trips average as far as credit hours? What about domestic? Is it hard to drop trips out of NY? |

They did tell us that they were only looking for bilingual FAs. I was also told that if you stated in your original application that you spoke any language you would be tested on them if your selected. You need to pass the language test in order to go to training. There were a few women who forgot they had placed certain languages on the original application and HR told them they have to pass the language assessment in order to go to training. |

I can say that I did receive a call this past Friday and when I returned the call, all the interview slots were filled.
