TRIXXA in Costa Mesa, California said: I passed the two telephone interviews by Delta in the beginning of april and was told that they would be contacting me for a ftf interview but alas, its been a month and no call. Does anyone know what is the hang up? Are they done hiring for a while or what? For now they have stopped interviewing. The last day for now was Wednesday. |
|
danielle 5 months ago |
If they really are done hiring and doing face to face interviews, why keep doing the phone interviews and telling people they will call them in a couple of days? Also why keep a status of "now hiring" on the career web page if they really arn't? |

Princess31....I'm in the May 6th class, looks like I'll be driving, maybe take MARTA on the days I have to be there during rush hour. But I live in Sandy Springs, so even a trip on MARTA would take me a couple of hours with train and bus transfers. allyaustralia...Hey, thanks a lot. At first I was under the impression that I would have to move to New York completely. I don't mind commuting and using a crashpad as a home away from home, I just don't want to call a crashpad "home". |

I too am waiting for F2F phone call. One question, what is Delta's starting pay now? And does anyone know how much per diem is domestic/international? |

By the way I don't know the ATL area that well..but it sounds like your a ways out from the training facilities.. Are you still too close (they have a set mileage that if you are over you can get a hotel room) to be permitted free lodging? I don't know if you are far out or if it just takes forever on transportation - you poor thing.. |

Starting pay is $19.10 and the per diem is around $1.55 for domestic and $2.20-$2.40 international. You get a guarantee of 75hrs (so your minimum pay check will be at least 75 x the $19.10 + per diem from whatever you work) |

DeltaFA in New York, New York said: Although it is true that things are slowing down right now with the hiring process...please realize that the only reason this is happening, is because Delta has offered FA's 2 leave packages: a retirement package and a voluntary leave package for FA's with 10+ years of seniority (highest paying ones!) My question is How soon after May15 the senior FA's will have to leave the company??? Thanks |

allyaustralia in New Jersey said: Your welcome. Traffic in this city is a nightmare, I live about 30 miles from the airport, which either involves a trip through the downtown area, or a time-consuming ride around the city on the perimeter highway. Either way my commute will be long. MARTA doesn't offer much help with that kind of distance. |

rodney in Atlanta, Georgia said: My question is How soon after May15 the senior FA's will have to leave the company??? Hi Rodney, So far, it states that the last round of FA's will leave by November of 2008--they will be staggered to leave until then. But, the official number of FAs taking the packages should be tallied soon after the May 15th deadline. Then, the plan is to hire more newhire FAs to replace the leave FA's...Thats all we know as of right now! Obviously, Delta is still hiring (or planning to very soon) since the hiring website is still accepting applications and current applicants are being told that they WILL BE called soon for F2F's and training spots for those given a conditional job offer. There are plenty of people on this forum that have applied at other airlines, and the other airlines have openly and honestly told them that they are no longer or indefinitely suspending the hiring of FAs at this time....Delta has not! So stay positive and hold you horses! :) |

love2travel in Monroe, Michigan said: DeltaFA? Hi love2travel, No, there is no maximum...I have friends that fly over 200 hours a month! God bless them! The best thing about your schedule at Delta, is that you can bid to fly high or low time and then you can pickup as much time as you want or you can also drop down to nothing...0 hours for the month! You can even get rid of your 6 reserve days if you like! Totally up to you on how much or how little you like to fly!

DeltaFA - do you do preferential bidding? Is it easy to get rid of or swap trips? Thanks for all your info! I'm one of the 'waiting for the F2F' peeps! =) |

Hi wtf, Yes, it is cutomized, personalized, preferiential bidding by seniority. Swapping trips...
Dropping trips...
Hope that helped! :) |

Delta FA in NY: you've been helpful by sharing your experience and knowledge of the company with those of us in the 'wings'. How long have you been flying? I start training May 13. I applied from Milan in March, moved back to Tahoe a few weeks later, and had my FTF April 22, and was offered a CJO. |

YOU DO NOT GET A GUARENTEE OF 75 HOURS WITH DELTA. YOU GET SIX A DAYS THAT IS IT WITH A GUARENTEE OF 4 HOURS A DAY IF YOU DO NOT FLY. SORRY FOR THE CAPS. Training is intense with a 90% avearge. No retakes except of the Emergency procedures test. If you are even 1% below 90% they will let you go. Get your rest and study. If you are driving everyday, you might want to consider getting a room. You will have 12 hour days six days a week. |

jan, this is me - wtf - I finally registered to the site and it wouldn't let me use my former screen name, weird! Anyway I just meant that I wish I would have applied sooner because it seems they have put a hold on training at the moment, at least that is my understanding. It feels like it is taking forever! And yes, I was a F/A until a few weeks ago when my airline went bankrupt - so I too am looking. Luckily I have a few interviews coming up, so we will see! What about you? Are you a previous F/A as well? I bet you're getting excited! =) |

Oh, I had a F2F planned with UAL too (I had applied while at my previous airline) - but the same thing happened as with Delta. My luck hasn't been so great lately! haha Why did you leave UAL? Was it for the Delta job? Did you work there long? And thanks, I am hoping to at least have the opportunity to interview - then they can decide if I am worthy! ;) |

I worked at SKB for one year - to the date! I took Italian in college although I can barely speak it. My guy is Sicilian and I can pick up every other word or so when he is talking to his Mother, but that's about it. 8 years is a lot. I worry that I won't be happy doing much else, and I don't have half as much time as you. I guess I flew a little over 1K hours, that's all. The only good thing with working for a start-up is the opportunity - I was a Check F/A and assisted with a lot of training - I guess it's good for the resume. Anyway I did enjoy it for the most part, just looking to get in with a 'real' airline this time. =) |

I guess your application process went pretty quick! I have ONLY been flying for 7 years, and I say ONLY because, as you will see at Delta..FA's are very senior! I just flew with a FA with 45 years of seniority! I don't blame them for staying...the perks of the job only gets better and better the longer you stay! Welcome to Cloud 9! :) |

To answer your question, yes, new hire F/A's have reserve days. The good thing at Delta is that you only do 6 reserve days a month. Those reserve days are broken up in blocks of three. At Delta, once you finish training you will hold a schedule, compared to other airlines where you will be on reserve for God knows how long. I hope I was abole to answer your question, and if you have any other, please post them. |

James in BOS in Peabody, Massachusetts said: Hi latinguyperez, James, please call me Eddie :-)... It all depends. 60% of DAL trips are international. Therefore, they go pretty senior. However, it doesn't means that while on reserve, you may be called to do an international flight. I have heard of new hires that they have flown to Zurich, Paris, London and so on. This also depends on how you bid. Hope I answered your question. Ed |

Maybe with the Honolulu-sydney flight on Hawaain? |

I'm sorry you won't be with us in this class..but hey you'll have a friend out on the line when you graduate which is always nice! I'm not sure what interline agreements DAL has with other airlines..but I'm sure at least ONE of them fly to Australia. I'm pretty sure you can buy z-fares with United, probably can buy Hawaiian too.. The agreements are pretty broad these days...so I'm going to go ahead and say yes. Hell I had pretty good agreements in my US Airways days..and I'm sure Delta's are even better! |

Can anyone offer advice for me on how to get started? I have never had any interviews or even applied. I want to be a F/A what should I be doing to prepare myself? What types of questions do they ask on the phone interview ? I have a substantial customer service background. Any info anyone can offer would be helpful good luck to all! |

Any info anyone can offer would be helpful good luck to all! Hello Net, To become a FA, you have to be outgoing, and customer service oriented. You must be and understand the position itself. You have to be flexible, dedicated and responsible. Its not as glamarios as it was before deregulation, and at times it can be very demanding and challenging. With all that said, if you enjoy serving people, and you are dedicated, responsible and can accept challenges, then this might be the career for you. As a FA, you primary concern is the safety and well being for each passenger that boards your plane. You must know how to work as a team and at time you may be called to be a leader. You will need to adapt to time changes as a FA with Delta, there will be times when you will be flying international. Questions that are asked on the phone interview are scenario questions. What they want to see if you are customer service oriented. The interview in Atlanta is fun as Delta online FA's are the ones who conduct the interview. They want to see if you can think "out side the box." You are given scenarios and you give them examples from your real life. This is not a job, its a career. If you have any other questions, please do not hesitate to ask. No question is stupid or ridiculous. You need to know the full scope of being a FA before you apply. I wish you continued success in your career endeavors. Eddie |
