Hey Everyone! I am a recent graduate from the Delta FA Training Academy (YAY). I just wanted to see if anyone else that graduated was on this site. I am so excited to start flying next week. I have my base orientation this weekend. If you are interested...Here is a forum for all of us to keep in contact with everyone in all classes! Check it out! www.crewloungeDL.com |

Hey, sorry for posting on this forum, but I don't know where else to ask this question. I figured a recent Delta graduate would be a good person to ask. :) I'm heading to class soon, and there is a good friend of mine that is going to be in the same class (yay!). Just wondering how Delta picked roommates for training. Was it random? Thanks! |

I don't think I could have picked a better roomie from my OWN repertoire of friends! Don't worry. |

Most importantly: EAT a big breakfast before you go! You are going to be there for a while and don't want to be uncomfortably hungry. That is my best advice. Be yourself. Be relaxed and think to yourself that there is no way you are going to get it. THAT has always been the way for me to be myself b/c if I think that I am not going to get it, then I have nothing to lose. Be attentive to others and do not try to impress. Smile often. Be prepared to answer 'life' questions such as: What has been the most difficult thing in your life, the most important, when there was a time you and a co-worker disagreed/had a problem and how it was resolved, a life-changing event and what it is you learned, how you'd react to somebody junior wanting to do things there way, etc. Lastly, you need to have a genuine love of people in your heart and have a genuine openness that can be seen. They are looking for people that have specific life characteristics, not just interview attitudes. I don't know if that makes sense, but that is the best way I can put it into words. Hope this helps! Eat and relax, my sister. You will do well! |

Thanks Gringa! That's helpful. :) Also...I know that DL has several different variations of certain airplanes (like 2 different 777's, 3 different 767's...I think those numbers are right). ;) Was it difficult to learn the different variations? I'm preparing for brain cramps! lol |

Dashuria in Ithaca, New York said: Thanks Gringa! That's helpful. :) I am going to really help you out on this one. Don't worry about it until you get there. Delta annoyingly fed us information on a need to know basis, and it grieved me to no end! Now as I look back on things, I realize that I probably would have short circuited a synapse or two had I known a lot of information before it was necessary. The two smaller birds are a piece of cake! The MD and the 737. My hardest bird was the 757. There were about 5 variations of it and hardly any of the seating (of the f/a's) was the same. Just remember to study only vaguely where the F/A's sit on the 757, then on the 767, know it better. Don't even sweat the triple seven. Study hard on the 757, after that it is much easier. You will also have a bunch of CBT's to do, so take your laptop so that you can do a lot of them in your room. On your only day off that you will have, REST. Lastly, take some meds with you and stock up on Airborne and Vitamin C and Emergen-C. If you can get your Dr. to prescribe a general antibiotic for cold/flu then you will be ahead of the game. That classroom (and training center for that matter!) was a giant petrie dish of germs!! Three people from our class had to go to the hospital and several others from different classes. You fly on the weekends, so you REALLY don't want to miss those flights or you are screwed. REST UP on your day off and for heaven's sake, drink later....so not worth that. |

I have two questions: what do you recommend in terms of packing? Also, can you shed some light on the eating situation(like cafeteria prices or what you did for food) ? Thank you much. I leave for training on the 1st! |

Also, can you shed some light on the eating situation(like cafeteria prices or what you did for food) ? In terms of packing it is now business attire. The training packet may say business casual, but it changed. So...closed toed/heeled shoes, hosiery are required, and no jeans except for one week. Food? I ordered nutri-system and not only saved money, but lost weight. The cafeteria prices were not good, nor was the food. We ended up running to the store for our Starbucks to make in the room (to start the day off right!). I would go to the store and plan on packing your own lunch daily or you will spend obscene amounts of money before you know it. I only went out about 10 times and still managed to drop a lot of coin. It is the bloody vending machines during the day that get you, so pack snacks, but watch those calories! Take your own bottle of water and refill it at the drinking fountains as the day goes on. You MUST be kind to your body during this time as you will put a lot of pressure on it as well as be exposed to all of the sick people in that training center. Geez louise! I don't mean to beat a dead horse, but man! We were sanitizing everything towards the end. It really made me believe in the validity and threat of germ warfare. |

I heard it was cold in the class rooms. Is this true? I'm trying to figure out what fabric is best to wear. Also, you pretty much have to have your shoulders covered at all times right? Aside from the birds, what was the hardest thing to learn and is there anyway we could find that info online or in a library? Than you so much for posting!! you are helping us tremendously!! |

I am in training right now and my biggest tip would be to bring vitamins and stuff like Emergen C/Airborne.
They have a cafeteria there but it isn't very healthy or cheap.
Get LOTS of sleep before you come! =)
Also, don't stress out too much over the airport codes. Everyone expected the test on them to be the first week, but it's actually in the 3rd week. |

Great and SOUND advice, Matt! Hey guys, call me Gringa. It is not THAT cold in the classrooms, but I always wore a sweater. What I failed to mention before is that you must have sleeves, be it short or long. If you have no sleeves (most of my repertoire) I had to wear a sweater to comply. BELIEVE ME, JASON IS A PERSON YOU SHOULD RESPECT. He is the person that you will have to 'pass' as to whether or not you are in compliance. Just freaking comply. It is not that hard, people. You won't have to fear otherwise. I personally respect him greatly. Dashuria thank you for the kudos! Leslie, thank you also for your kudos. There is nothing that you can find in the 'brary. Just study your city codes prior. There are about 200 of them. Know them well. If you have that done before you go, you will be so beyond ahead of the game. I found myself wearing a lot of Chicco's black stuff; stuff that is almost no-iron, yet thinning!! LOL Cicerosum, don't worry about the commute. Allow yourself 30 min extra than you would otherwise and you will be fine. If you live in ATL, then you should know. You will pretty much have a.m. classes. We started out at 1230, then later (3 weeks in) went to 0830. PLAN ON 10 hr DAYS. I don't know about renting a house or why, that seems like such a huge expense that is unwarranted. Not only that, but unless you speak Swedish, you will be based in NY. |

SJDGringa in Portland, Oregon said:Oh, expense is not a problem for me. I'm not doing this job for the money, as a former FA for CO I miss flying very, very much! I just plan on living in Atlanta for the training anyway and moving back home afterwards. Thanks for the info and hope you enjoy your new job, congrats! |

Gringa you are a lifesaver! I would have been stuck wearing cold weather sweaters indoors because almost none of my blouses have sleeves! I would like to know if you have to have a pair of shoes that you ONLY use for inflight. I can't wear the same pair for inflight and training? The comfy shoes out there are all pricey and I wanted to know if I could just stick to my good pair of black closed toe for everything. |

Oh Gringa, I'm jealous! My class is 8-6 everyday....I'd love to be able to start at 1230! =) I haven't ever noticed the classrooms being cold, but if you are a cold prone person, then go ahead and bring a sweater. I have brought jackets a few days b/c this past week we had that weird weather in ATL where it can be 48 degress early in the morning and then 72 in the afternoon. As Gringa said, respect the dress code! The emails that you get kind of insinuate that it is business casual, but they want you to be in business attire. Men need a tie on everyday. Woman have a little more flexibility in business attire. Cicero- I think I've talked to you on FA.org before.
If you guys bring a bag everyday (pretty much everyone does) make sure it is SOLID black with no other colors/designs on it. Good luck! If any of you get here before 4/16 you will have to find me and say hi! =) |

Leslie, don't skimp on price. I have two pairs of shoes just for flying. They have already lasted me 7 years, and the reason being is b/c they are good quality. I have my pumps and my 'flats' for inflight that I sometimes wear with my pants. They are Franco Sarto's, so very fashionable and comfy with that square toe. I would highly recommend Nordstrom as the place to purchase these very important shoes. Plan on around $80/pr and have them put on the 'stretcher' for 24 hours. That should make them good to go for flying! Nordstrom used to have a brand called Nordstrom Sensations...OH, by far and away the most comfortable pump I have ever worn. Too, they guarantee their products, and we LOVE THAT! |

so as far as shoes go, those restrictions apply to uniform as well as training? It didn't sound like that... |

kk in Baltimore, Maryland said: so as far as shoes go, those restrictions apply to uniform as well as training? It didn't sound like that... Sorry, my sister. I was in a hurry on that last post. You are quite correct and astute! ;o) The shoe thing is closed toed for both training and on the line. You can however, have buckles, etc during training. I was referring to uniform compliance. Thank you, my friend! |

Thank you so much for clearing that up! I'm leaving tomorrow morning for training and i still haven't packed my shoes! ha! Thanks again! |

also, this is going to sound weird but i just HARDLY passed the reach test (i'm quite short) and i'm worried that they're going to kick me out of training because i'm too small! Is there a second reach test? Can anyone see where this would pose the biggest problem? |

Hi, everyone. I was called for interviews for two airlines, however i declined because I was told the pay was very low, at least for the first few years. Is it true that while on standby you make poverty level and have to be available to the last minute. I have a family and not knowing when i will be called or that I will not work at least 40 hrs a week would be a hardship for me, however i LOVE to fly and am a very friendly , and patient person and know I would be an excellent fit for this job. My hubby is in the airforce and was not too thrilled knowing that i would be called spur of the moment or that the pay would be poverty level for me.... any feedback would be greatly appreciated. I always wanted to be a flight attendant.. |

Hi everyone, My name is Mark. I am a British guy living in New York. I had the wonderful opportunity of briefly starting Delta Flight Attendant Training, but due to a family issue I had to leave the course. I am unable to return due to the lack of training courses and I am sure the NWA merger today hasnt helped either.
My email is: vanquishbrit@yahoo.com Thank you for reading my post, good luck to everybody and congratulations for graduating!! Delta is a wonderful airline!!!!! Mark |

I'm also hoping that our schedule allows me to get to at least a couple yoga classes each week. I guess I could always run outside, but that is not what I lie to do every day for my workout. When are you goingt o training? I start April 22. Good luck! |
