Delta is not hiring anymore FAs..anyone in class now gets to go on and anyone scheduled for class is out...they have ceased any hiring. |

Good Morning to everyone in America! I have a question and hope that I can get some feedback here. I'll be moving to south florida soon. Miami to be exact. I want to work for the airlines really bad. My choices are American Airlines and Delta. Which one is better? I'm an American Citizen. Would not mind working at the airport first and then, trying out for a flight attendant position. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated! Ciao! |

LisaLovesNorthwest in Glenwood, Illinois 51 months ago |
Good morning Paola. I don't really know which airline is "best" for you but in my opinion I would apply for any that are hiring. Delta has a hiring freeze for the time being. As soon as you arrive in Florida start putting in your applications. Before you leave Italy, to help you out in the application process, get Letters of Recommendation from former employers concerning your customer service skills, dependability, etc. and copies of high school/college transcripts or diplomas, along with addresses of your residences for the past 10 years. Easier to do that while you are still there than trying to get them from here. Good luck to you. |

Well, any other position at the airport pays about $9.50/hour, which is not that much less than being a flight attendant, incidently. Don't hold your breath about American hiring anytime soon. They're still in the process of calling their furloughed fight attenants. Do you homework! I can't tell you how many F2F interviews I've been to where the majority of candidates have no clue as to what it encompasses to be a F/A. Find out where the airline has flight attendant bases. Delta is only sending F/As to NY, & Continental to Ohio, & maybe Houston (its Headquarters). It's not fun commuting. I did it from Detroit (when I was w/Northwest Airlines), & given the proximity, you would've thought it was easy. But the F/As competing for space-available was treacherous. On probation, if you can't back in time for your working flight, you're %90 guaranteed to be fired. Been there, seen it. I've been w/3 airlines. But, I'm not discouraged. I just have to find the right airline for me. |

Wayne92963 in Mcdonough, Georgia said: Thats not very accurate. its actually 21,000 per year if you work the minimun. You can pick up trips to add more hours. Lets not forget that Delta is not the only carrier that starts the FAs off at 19.10. Look at some other major carriers that start their FAs off at $17. Delta honestly has the best reserve for a new hire. As for the interview...everyone has their own persepective, but if you didnt enjoy it, then Delta isnt for you. You have to have the heart for the particular airline you choose. To have that loyalty is what creates a great airline. So if Delta wasnt your first choice then, find the one that is because you may be happier there, no matter what the starting pay. Good luck, and hope you find what your looking for! Actually, all major carriers pay about that. You're right, you have to have the heart for flying. I loved being at Northwest, but in the end, the being on-call tore me down. Delta's 6 day reserve sounds magnificent. But, I'll tell you this, of all the couple thousand who got hired at NW last year, rumor has it (from the horses mouth), that %90 had to quit and go back to Burger King & Walmart cuz they simply couldn't afford it, & the extra expenses that it takes to be constantly on the go. Of the few who have stayed, have someo other means of income. My crash-pad mate is a financial advisor. We all have to do it for the love of it. Me, I'm a wandering soull, so it IS for me. I'm just waiting to pay off my car, & plan to get back into that life-style, because that's what it is-- a lifestyle. You're not in it to make money. As for the extra hours you can pick up, I don't know about you, but most of us jump at any days off to commute back home and unwind. I can't tell you how many Paris trips I booked, but always went home instead. You get homesick. But, I'd do it again, with the right airline, one where I'd have more probability to do Int'l, cuz that's where I belong w/my 4 languages. |

There is NO WAY I could go back to flying (was with HP and CO) if I didn't have my husband. It would not be possible. And you're right about the homesick thing, I remember some really crappy trips, being lonely in the hotel room, missing loved ones...long hours on the runway, getting rolled from one trip to another b/c I was the most junior crew member and it was 11pm. But there hasn't been ONE SINGLE DAY in the last 7 years that I haven't missed my job. I can't wait to get back! :) |

Darlin', I don't know how you misunderstood that this is a good wage. Each month, after deductions, you will probably pocket maybe $1,400. As you will most certainly be based in NewYork, that's not enough even for you. Why would you want to take them to Atlanta for training? You're husband would NOT be able to stay w/you at the academy, much less your dog. It would be a great idea if your husband found a job in NY (though unlikely w/out English), so you could afford to get a tiny apartment together. Think about getting rid of Fido, though. And don't count on seeing them at all for up to 7 days at a time. Just go to the Interview, got nothing to lose for doing that much. Take care. |

What are the hours for classes at the Academy. I just got into a server job right now, and I need to work out my schedule. Academy starts on the 8th. So far, I can only work on Sundays at this said restaurant, but I would like to pick up more shifts while I am going to school at the Delta Academy. Is that going to be possible? |
|
Briandhm in Jersey City, New Jersey 50 months ago |
I have done training before at another carrier. You will have no time to work. And your time off is not guaranteed. One week it may be sunday and another week it may not. Also, if there are training flights they usually take place on the weekend.

selam in Chino Hills, California said: it depends just be positive. some times they do but most likely they would have made you do your back ground and drug test when you were there. I went for the F2F on Feb. 15th and did not get selected for the fingerprinting and bkgrd check that day. Needless to say I was very disappointed and figured that was the end of it. well, I just got a call on 4/7 offering me the job. Now I am waiting for the call to tell me when and where to go for my drug test and fingerprinting. Then I will have to wait for the bkgrd check to be completed. I am hopeful that I will start the training academy in ATL in early May. Good luck everyone else! |

ThatsQueenMary2U in Atlanta, Georgia said: Wow Robin...I thought they had ceased hiring due to the buyouts and layoffs. Be careful taking a job when they are offering buyouts and layoffs. I know DL is a good airline, just be weary. Thanks for the warning, but I'm not too concerned. I don't think that they would call me, offer me the job, send me info about the background check, etc. if I had anything to worry about. Besides, if they hire me and lay me off, it's no big deal to me. I'll just get another job - maybe it wouldn't be flying (that would be sad), but with the way unemployment is right now, I am sure I could get another job or collect unemployment like so many other people do. But, thanks again for the warning.

They are going to send me a bunch of emails telling me the schedule, what to pack, etc. I just have to decide whether I am going to drive or fly down and let them know. I' think I;ll drive so that I have some transportation so I can get to some yoga classes, the grocery store, etc. Well, good luck to everyone! |

Hi everyone, I had my face-to-face last Thursday. I made sure to be social and assertive (not overwhelmingly assertive). I was the first one to volunteer to stand up and introduce myself. I speak french, but told them it's a little rocky. The interview went well...to my knowledge, however, I was not conditionally accepted on the spot. I'm really worried! Is there any chance for me? They said we should hear back from them in approx. 2 to 3 weeks stating whether or not we made it....is this right? Please let me know! Thank you..by the way, the blogs have been really helpful! ;) -Audrey |

GeneR in Forest Hills, New York said: does anyone know what the 6 weeks training is like? Hi! I just graduated from the training on April 30th. It's really intense, but I have made some of the best friends of my life. (I didn't think I could make closer friends than the ones I made in college, but my delta family beat them out) Be prepared for LONG days, and little sleep. I think I averaged about five hours a night. Try to stay focused on the long lecture days, and realize that the hands on will be a HUGE addrenaline (sp?) rush! EP week was my favorite. Pack business clothes but pack a good pair of jeans for EP week, you'll be moving around alot. Also pack a good bathing suit, as there is one day that you will be doing pool exercises. Above all remember that no matter how stressful it can be at times (and believe me, we had some stressed out people) you can survive ANYTHING for six weeks. And look forward to "shake it up baby!" |

hi everyone and goodluck! I'm currently a FA for delta for 4 years sterted when I was 21. In reguards what everyone says delta is a great company and the only that pays for training. Not even american pays for training. I live in san juan PR and commute to jfk. Never had a problem since working also if you guys did not know we have cabin jumpseat agreement with american and other major airlines meaning we can fly with them for free making commute easier and more choice to choose from. Also you can pick up international flights on your days off or triptrade with open trips. Alot of senior FA don't like the long international flight so they are always open. Personally I like to fly domestic. I don't like those 9 hour flight jejeje!! But don't listed to those people that are not working as a FA and don't know nothing on how it works discourage you!! It's a great company compared to the other carriers. Good luck!! Hope to see ya in the skyess!! |
