They probably send you a letter FEDEX confirming the training date of March 22. You probably spoke to Denise from HR. She was the one who get in contact with me this past Tuesday March 2

Hey People,
Let me tell you that this flight is hard and when you get to Launda it is a hard place to deal with also. This is a third world country, and they do things in a third world way. I fly the HE to work over there and getting off the ground on time is a joke. Nothing is done that makes any sense and we are treated like cows going to the slaughter trying to get on the plane and come home. I have been on this trip for four years and have just about had enought. If you have not been over there talk to some of the HE Flight attendents first before you get on.

How much does a FA working for Houston Express makes on her first year?

FYI- I'm a pilot for Atlas. I will be flying the Houston Express out of IAH. I would not pay too much attention to the current F/A's expressing discontent. They fly MD11's that do not fly non-stop and work for a different company than Atlas. It's going to be a whole new game. The only thing that is going to be the same is the destination. Get your malaria pills and you will be OK. See you on board!

Hey Jet Blast,
Thanks for clearing that up man. I just applied to Atlas F/A. I understand that Atlas got the contract that World lost. I just applied the posting was placed yesterday 3/15/10. I live here in Houston and have been trying to fly agin (while in still young). I hope to get a chance to interview. I flew for American and got furloughed in 2003. I have military background as well (Air Force - Aircew Life Support Spec).
Do they usually give any pref to ex -military? your thougths are appriciated

Thanks Paul Gomez

Hey Paul,
I couldn't tell you much about the hiring criteria for the F/A side. I have been told that the F/A's so far have been a mix of young and old with experienced and new comers. I can only suggest you be the squeaky wheel.

I was offered an interview with Atlas doing the houston to africa flight. Not sure if it sounds like a good opportunity to me, I dont like that we are not offered and flying benefits and the long hours. I flew to alaska from phoenix and back in one day and it was so tiring! Wondering if there are any sleeping compartments on the plane? Any flight attendant currently doing this route to give me any advise? THANKS

I am coming from Usairways and when I did that Alaska flight the most rest I got was 20 minutes here and there sitting in an uncomfortable jumpseat. Do you feel that it is good company? Also, do we fly that trip every week? Do you know if they will be expanding thier routes further to other destinations? Also, how much are you paid during training? Sorry for all the questions but I need to have all the facts so I can decide.. thanks again!

I interviewed with Atlas didnt sound like a good job to me, and the company that does the hiring for Atlas is very secrative about their company and what they looking for, they interview constantly and dont hire the qualified ppl selected for interview .. I spent over 350.00 going to the interview after i passed the test and was told we were the top selected applicants. Also the layover to Africa is very uncomfortable and your escorted by armed gaurds when deplaning and arriving treated, like cattle. think twice b4 u go, i wished that i had not gone to the interview.

Yes, it is a good airline! There are many good things happening here! I think you should go to the interview and get the facts.....they will answer all of your questions. Training is paid with some other perks. I have been in the airline business for many years, I came here after a furlough.

Best of luck to you!

I got a call for an interview with Atlas. I know someone posted they want you to live 50 miles from the airport, but is it possible to commute if you had a place stay on the days you were on RSV or on the schedule. Any info you could share would be grealty appreciated. Thanks!!!!

I do not think it is possible to commute, unless you have flight benefits through a spouse or a previous airline job. There are no j/s or non-rev agreements (for now anyway). They also require a IAH address after training.

Any news from anyone that has attended training? Seems so secretive and hard to get info about this operation.
Any updated accurate information would help everyone on this forum.

Thanks

I was just invited to the April 26 training in Miami. However I turned it down because I need the proper 2 weeks notice. I haven't worked this hard to be in bad standing and have a bad referral with my current employer. Good luck to Atlas Air and good luck to those of you who will be working for them. I guess it just wasn't my time to go.

Hey Good idea,

I would never leave a current employer without proper notice, it can come back and bite you, especially if you leave atlas and apply at another airline.

Paul

i went to the interview on tuesday. i just wanted to let my fellow atlas candidates know, i have not heard anything back, just in case you are trying to get a good read on our prospects of being invited to training. since somebody has already received a phone call w/an invite, i have a sneaking suspicion i will not be on the receiving end of that phone call. i guess if it was meant to be, it will be. my guess is.......it won't be. regardless, best of luck to all!

Hey fellow Atlas trainees... Got invited by HR to training for April 30th. Who went to April 12th interview session? ...and "jenjenfarrell" I think I remember you.. were the girl behind me with the blue suit or something like that.. (sorry i don't have a very good photogenic memory)... and "lacy" were you the girl with the long hair, really cute with the "arkansa" accent?... and "hairymacaroni" are you the guy that I was talking to about Republic Airways... or are you "Trey" who I saw a week back at an Xtra Air session? (sorry so many questions but I'm trying to remember who I spoke and met at the interview session)

I went to the interview on Tuesday, April 13th. I received a letter through FEDEX Tuesday, April 20th stating that I have been put on the preferential hiring list and they'd contact me when class dates become available. I know another girl who attended the same interview but she received a letter on Monday stating that she wasn't selected for the position.

T was excited to receive the letter but now I'm kind of worried since some of you have already received a phone call from Denise to attend the training class on April 30. I may call her tomorrow to follow up.

Lacy I went to the April 12th interview. I'm one of the asian chicks who was there that day. I'm the chick that had a side braid with the bun.
As for "Mitch"--- I'm not quite sure who he is, could you tell me how he looks like to jog my not so good memory. -:D Thanks.

Anyhow Congrats. It is wonderful knowing or at least getting to know a few ppl before going to training.

Just got my drug test early test morning. I can't believe FedEx kept ringing the doorbell at 6am this morning... OMG! aww well---I'm off to do the deed this morning.

Congrats "realme"!!!

I think for the most it's going to be fingerprinting that will be done.. Unless someone has heard otherwise.

Everyone that I've spoken to has been really nice and has kept communication open to what to expect if anything else.

And it's nice to know that we should expect our itineraries by Monday. Soooooo excited!
