Sarah in Bothell, Washington said: Oh no! So I am confused...so you are saying that even if you did the drug test with Delta and background...you still don't have the job? I never gotten in trouble with the law, never did drugs, but had a lot of jobs in 2002 when I just got out of high school. I havent' recieved a phone calls or anything. My FtF was 1/16/2008...I'm bummed...

Sarah did you do the drug test and everything at your FTF?? If you did that means you got the conditional offer. If you have done that it usually takes a few weeks to get you background stuff in order. They will call you if they need anything else for your background check, and then call with a training date once everything is complete.

I am so concerned about my body and the competition. :) I have a solid black pant suit I am bringing, white blouse, string of pearls, black heels, my nails were just done yesterday, although I have almost shoulder length hair which I cannot put up yet. I look very professional, I have been in the legal field for 15 years. Thank goodness I am now able to pass that on and move to something I am passionate about!

May I ask how you liked working for USAirways? I have found a lot of negatives online this last week and not quite sure how I feel. I am also interviewing for Skywest on Wednesday.

You sound perfect for the job, with your professional background. Your ensemble sounds exactly like what I wore, right down to the pearls.

Honestly, I don't know if my USAirways experience would help answer your question. I was in customer service, and it was during the Piedmont merger, and it was just not a good time to be there - very stressful. Your best bet is to talk to some current USAirways f/a's and get a feel for the environment from them. What I would do is get the airport a little bit early, and hunt some down and talk to them. Most of them love to talk to the newbies and wannabes so that they can give them advice.

I hope that you'll stick with us here on the forum and keep us posted on your progress. :)

BTW, has the conference call been posted yet? Just curious.

Thanks, BIRD. Good point.

SARAH - if you've had your drug test and background check, they're planning to hire you. There's just a bit of a wait. A lot of the folks over on the Delta f/a forum are in the same boat that you are - waiting. But many of us were sent home from the FTF without a conditional offer, and most of these people have now gotten rejection notices from Delta and are moving on to other companies. Hope that helps.

I don't know. Only those of us with access to the Delta Portal can read it. But I know that there was going to be a LOT of bitching this time because of the interviews. I'm home all day today, so I'll keep checking as well.

SARAH - Delta isn't the only company out there. You have lots of options, esp. where YOU live. But it sounds like you're in with Delta. Sit back and enjoy it. Start learning your city codes ahead of time. Start buying your shoes and other essentials that you're going to need for training. There are lots of people on this forum who can give you valuable info on some of that stuff. Many of us are former f/a's, married to Delta employees, or have close friends who are and can give you all the info that you need to prepare for training.

RJ in Atlanta, Georgia said: DAVID - Delta kept me in their "on hold" status for 8 weeks!!! And I knew deep down what that meant - that they were not going to call me, but I am really resentful of the way that they kept us waiting so long without the courtesy of cutting us loose sooner. I've lost a lot of respect for that particular department at Delta, but will try not to let it color the way I feel about the company overall. David, are you going to apply for one of the regionals? They're certainly a lot easier to get on with.

RJ- yes I have gone through the interview process with Compass Airlines and have been recently accepted into their March Class. It was refreshing to get back to an actual personal interview with someone. Their recruiting staff at Compass is delightful and all comments I have read have been positive in terms of the work atmosphere and morale. (esprit de corps is high). I may have missed this RJ- are you going to interview with Open Skies- do you know who else is?
Thanks.

What are your hopes and desires?

Hey Natasha, also good to hear from you! I do not understand the 'on hold' thing. That is a new one. Also- I believe you speak Frech? (Are you also from France?) You are a natural for OS and know they will invite you. I was hoping for some fellow forum people at the upcoming interviews in Newark.

That raises an interesting question also. The more I read the comments on the OS Blogue, the more comments I see from potential passengers suggesting that the F/As' be fluent in the language of the country they are flying into. (IE- Paris and Brussels(Bruxelles). I studied French in High School- but am by no means fluent. I do plan on taking an immersion program in French, however, I am not fluent now. I speak some Thai, but again, I do not see any use for that with the route plans I see thus far.

DAVID - No, I'm not going to try Open Skies, but I know that there are a couple of people over on the Delta forum who are talking about it. I'm restricted to companies that have an ATL base, as I have animals at home that need me. Glad you didn't put all your eggs in that Delta basket, though. Their proclivity for mistreating their f/a candidates makes them undesirable in my book.

David - Most int'l airlines have one "speaker" on those flights, and the rest of the f/a's are English-only speakers. Unless an airline is an other-than-English or American airline, there is no reason to require that all of their f'a's be speakers.

Hi DAVID! As far as the on hold thing, it might be because when submitting the app, I omitted the addresses of my two best friend references; I didn't have them on hand. That might have messed me up somewhat. I know there's another person on the DL forum that is on hold with OS also. Dunno, we'll see. I would LOOOOVE to be in Newark with you and MALTI, who I think has a Feb 5th interview. Yes, I'm a native frenchman (woman) but I live in Florida and have been in the US since my teenage years. I did skim through the OS blog and saw what you mentioned. Although speaking a second language is not always an asset--see what happens with Delta?--they contacted me to apply and I'm in limbo with them, so go figure. I wouldn't worry about language being THAT important! At least, I don't...LOL.
Keeping my fingers crossed I go to Newark with you and MALTI..btw, are you Feb 5th also?

Hola DeltaBird, RJ, Natasha, Shanester and everyone else!! I haven't had the chance to catch up with all the posts on the other room yet. First, I want to say, RJ, thank you for creating this room were we can speak up and vent our frustrating experiences with the DL F/A hiring process. Maybe I should briefly explain how mine was for all those that don't know. I'll start by saying that I'm a former DL employee, originally applied for the F/A position when it was first posted at the beginning of '07. Back then, they didn't have the special website created so, you had to apply through the regular website. A few weeks later, got a call from a F/A Recruiter, asked me some questions and then, proceeded to invite me to ATL for a FTF interview. Unfortunately, I could not accept due to personal reasons at the time. She said, that I could apply again in 6 months, that they were going to hire again later in the year. Once the job was posted again, I created a profile Nov 1st, attempted to fill out the application, but was unable to. Called them several times to let them know and all they said, "Don't worry about it, since you're a former employee, we should have your records". I stayed put, weeks went by, meanwhile, I was still trying to fill out the application with no luck. Then, after 3 weeks, one day I check my spam folder and found the "thanks but no thanks"! Then, some weeks later, I find the Delta Forum that has helped me so much. You guys are the BEST!!! But, I'm not giving up, I've wanted this for soooo long. My friend has been a DL F/A for the past 14 years and says, not to give up, he got hired after the 3rd try, even though he was already a DL employee! Soooooo, for all those that still want to pursue this wonderful career with Delta, there's still hope. It's good to know that there are other options out there though. Wow!! I meant to make it brief, sorry guys, I guess, I had to vent a little. =(

LOL...Are you kidding, DELTAWINGS? You haven't vented enough, compared to me...hahahaha

Okay, now I'm bouncing back and forth between Delta prospects and been there done thats! For the record, I went through a whole slew of rejection letters (before email was even in existence) from many airlines before I was hired in 1978 by Braniff. I banged my head against the wall many times trying to figure out what they wanted. I was cute, young, college degreed, spoke French (kind of at the time-better now!) Maybe the head banging thing was causing some damage! Who knows, but that period in my life sure did build character! And things DO work out for a reason and often for the better! I ended up having the fantastic opportunity to grow with Braniff during its heyday, going all over the world and becoming a French Speaker with 5 day trips to Paris! And of course, some of you know what happened with Braniff. A heartbreak, for sure, but I went with NWA after that so the career continued. Anyway, I remember like it was yesterday, going to the mailbox, awaiting word from an airline, only to get a very thin response, a dead giveaway even before it's opened that it's a form "Thanks but no thanks" letter... "Nice having you over with" and so on. And my mom would look at me with eyes that only a mother can have towards her hurting child, and hug me and encourage me to be strong and keep trying. And I did and it did work out.

So best of luck to all of you...do not give up if it is your dream...it will all be worth it.

My f2f is with Delta on Fri, Feb 1st. I have mixed feelings...I want to fly again, I want to use my French again, my kids are grown and I am free...but I live in Atl, own a home, have a dog, have a beau, (not necessarily listed in order of importance! sorry sweetie!). Is it realistic to even consider commuting, IF I get the job, that is?

And what is the "new format" y'all are talking about? What exactly happened to Shane?

I haven't even inquired about other airlines that would offer ATL as a base. Maybe I should? Thanks!

Kanoneli,

The 'new format' (I was there also) is to have each one in the group stand up briefly in front of the rest and give basic information about themselves why you want to be a Flight Attendant. From that they determine who will go on to actually do a FTF within smaller sub-groups. The remainder are let go.

I'm also going to be very interested to hear reports from the people who have OS interviews in Feb5.
I'm really curious to know of OS crew will be able to jumpseat on AA. I believe that BA are able to do this since they are part of One World.

For those of you who have OS interviews scheduled in EWR- are they providing you with a ticket there, or do you have to pay for your own?

KANONELI - Thanks so much for posting your "story". You're an amazing writer.
Here are my thoughts on trying to commute in your situation: IF you have someone who can help you with your dog; and IF your beau is understanding and doesn't need to be with you all the time; and IF you have good physical stamina and can get by without a lot of rest or sleep, commuting may be an option for you. I, on the other hand, have the pets and the house and the husband, and I find that I can't even consider being away from the pets the amount of time that commuting will demand. Not for any length of time, anyway. My husband travels, so he's fine, but I will have to use a professional pet-sitter for the animals while I'm away for training, AND while I'm on trips. Add to that the possibility of adding an extra day on either end of your trips for commuting, and that's the amount of time you have have to decide if your "family" can do without you. So if you feel as though you need to keep the commuting to a minimum, I'd go with Delta, Shuttle America, Pinnacle, or AirTran. With AirTran or Pinnacle you'll be based in ATL right away, with Delta and Shuttle America you'll have a bit of a wait before you can get back here.

Well we were told on the phone when they scheduled the interview that we would get an interview and most did not which is false advertising maybe that is why they have not done it since because of that fact and I am sure somebody had to have complained to Delta about that process but with the talks of merger I don't want to work there cause they keep saying in the other forum that only NW would be furloughed but from what I have heard hear the junior people would get furloughed at both airlines. I don't have a day off til Monday so I have been in class all day today and will be all day tomorrow. I passed my first test today but stressing about my first aircraft test tomorrow and then the second one on Tues.

For those of you who have OS interviews scheduled in EWR- are they providing you with a ticket there, or do you have to pay for your own?

MATT - Glad you found us. Yes, we do have quite a group here. Delta created quite a few disgruntled wannabes (who don't wannabe any more). :)

BE CAREFUL, Shane. Last time I did that (aircraft test) I ended up in a hospital O.R. :)

No tomorrow's test is at least 60 questions on the Embraer 190 and then after that we learn the Airbus 320 and are tested on that on Tues. It is alot of stuff on the plane thrown at us at a short amount of time alot of folks are stressed we have lost 3 folks from my class as we are now at 42 instead of 45 but I am not sure how many are left in the other class as they split us up cause we are so big.

RJ, Thanks for your wise words. (and the compliment!) What you say makes sense, and there's no perfect answer, is there? I guess I'll just wait and see what happens on Friday. All of these "what ifs" might be for naught!

Not necessarily, Kanoneli. If Friday doesn't go well, you have some other good choices that not only may provide a better fit for your lifestyle (as I did after I got the heave-ho from Delta) but give you a much better chance of getting hired and getting the base you want. The Delta rejection actually turned out to be a blessing in disguise for a lot of us, because it forced us to look at other carriers that actually meet our needs better.

Please keep us informed.

HI You guys! I am enjoying reading all your comments. I had a delta interview WAYYY back in 1987! I know, I'm aging myself...They turned me down and I got hired w/ Piedmont, who was bought out by USAirways. I flew for over 17 years and had the best time of my life...it wasn't always easy though. Commuting is not fun and I did it the entire time from various places. There were a lot of times I had 20 hour days and I would finally walk in my front door completely exhausted...and I started flying at 21! It is a hard job but rewarding also. I quit for health reasons and miss it a lot (the fun parts!) I am thinking of getting back into it and am enjoying hearing all your experiences. I live in FL and don't want to move to NY or EWR or BWI. If anyone knows of anything in FL please let me know. GOOD LUCK TO YOU ALL

Hi JAXFLYGIRL! I, too, worked for Piedmont, during the merger, in CLT. Wasn't that a mess?
There are a couple of ladies on here who are in FL and are looking at different options. Allegiant has an MCO base. SPIRIT is another one of interest. Keep a lookout for Natasha, Peter, and Queen Mary on here. They're all in FL. Let us know if we can help.
