Hi DeltaFA, I have been reading quite a few threads as of late and am wondering if you could explain page 5 of 2008 DELTA'S NEW FLIGHT ATTENDANT ACADEMY STINKS. I am not sure what you meant. Gringa |

SJDGringa in Portland, Oregon said: Kat, Thanks, Gringa! Your post made my day. That was very nice of you to say. It does sound like you can get to and from work just fine without a car there in Kew Gardens. I was worried how one would have time to get their vehicle to NY after training; not so concerned about it now. However, wouldn't a new hire need to actually relocate and live there full-time? In that case, one may want a car. At any rate, I like the suggestion of just trying it out for a month or so & then decide if you actually need a car. I am glad to hear that you can get by fine without one though. Shanester, thank you also for the valued insight. You helped alleviate any concern I had; now all that's left is pure excitement! |

HA HA...whatever... ;-) |

Kat, You do not need to live there full time. You can commute from day one, that I promise you. You should look me up sometime. I live one block west of Willamette Park. Are you anywhere near? Would love to grab some coffee with you sometime! Gringa |

SJDGringa in Portland, Oregon said: Kat, I was just in John's Landing this afternoon for a hair appointment. I love that area - I worked in that area for 8 years. I'm living in the Alameda/Beaumont area now. So, you're only 10 minutes (or less) away. I do love Portland, but thought I would have to leave it behind for I didn't know how long before commuting might be possible. Wow! That is some news to hear that commuting is possible from day one. Although, I think I would spend awhile in NY until I really knew all the ropes of the job, scheduling, commuting, etc. So much to learn. It would be great to join you for a cup of coffee some time! I'm going to Seattle tomorrow morning and will be gone a week or so. Attending a funeral, and then heading over to Moses Lake to visit my son before the passes become covered in snow for the winter. (No airlines fly into Moses Lake - it's always a road trip.) I'll touch base with you when I get back in town and see what your schedule is like. I'll buy lunch if you like. Sushi at Koji's? Or the Buffalo Gap? Or Rivers? You pick. Looking forward to meeting you. You've been so helpful and so nice to everyone on here, and it seems you really love your job. You're a great mentor! |

SJDGringa in Portland, Oregon said: RJ, what day in November did you interview? I think we may have been at the same interview session based on your previous posts. Oh no kidding? Let's see - I think it was around Nov. 26. And you? |

RJ in Atlanta, Georgia 43 months ago |
DELTAFA - You are right. I was recalling that everyone had been OFFERED the opportunity to return, but you're right - some continued to postpone. Regarding the commuting issue (from NY), everyone should rest assured that there is probably no easier commute than NY (especially to ATL and other large bases). I have some friends who are flying commuters out of obscure cities and do not have DAL privileges, and commuting is terribly hard for them. We get spoiled with our Delta nonrev privileges, because you can always "get there from here" as long as you have privileges on Delta. So there is no reason to feel that you have to move to NY lock, stock, and barrel - unless you want to, of course, but it's very expensive, you'd have to have lots of roommates, and that's not for everyone. I used to go to my hubby's crashpad in Kew Gardens occasionally, and there was NO SUCH THING as privacy. :) |

They seemed pretty impressed and mentioned that whole 'finger on the trigger' thing at least a couple of times to us. Afternoon session?? DeltaFA, Buenos Aires sounds great~! If not, then let's go bug Latinguy in Puerto Rico! Gringa |

They seemed pretty impressed and mentioned that whole 'finger on the trigger' thing at least a couple of times to us. What a coincidence!! Yep - afternoon session. There was an AirTran f/a chosen (female), a woman who did local tv and voice-overs, and a young hispanic girl with long hair (from NY) who was a social worker chosen. Those are all of the details that I can remember of the ones who got the CJO. I remember walking out to the parking lot afterwards with a cute blond girl who was just fussing and fussing. I spent all of my energy trying to console her, and then drove home in a fog, head reeling from all that had just happened. Funny how the memory of certain days stick with you. Back then, I swore that I would never put myself through that again. |

Do you remember how the interviewers were marveling at us b/c it was only the third day of interviews? I mean, they really made a big deal of it. I am saying that b/c maybe we were a day apart after all. Just trying to come up with something that would click in our memories. I don't know if you know this guy, but he is now an F/A for DL that was in my interview and subsequent class. He is quite the character and goes by Calille. Do you know him? I think that is how you spell it. |

Layla, OF COURSE you are TOTALLY INVITED! I will make sure we can get Debbi in on the action as well. Should be fun! DeltaFA, I didn't know you commuted from Cali. LA? SFO? SAN? I am actively trying to pick out of LAX O.T. on my days off. I also try to swing as many J/W trades out of PDX that I can so that I can get paid to get to NY. In fact, I am on 148 tomorrow morning. Look me up and that way you can get my name and sked. Would love to meet up sometime! If all else fails, I know you will see my bag at some point in the crew lounge. It has a big pink handle on it that says GRINGA. That's me! Gringa |

DeltaFA in New York, New York said: Hi Austin, YEAH! I am totally keeping my hopes up, and already saving for training. I just hope my 2 other airlines (CO, and NK which I was furghloed from) don't hurt me! I know I interview well, and my resume reads well too, I was intvited to interview with NetJets recently, but that didnt go my way. But there was 3000 apps they took, which became 30 face to face interviews, for 4 spots. Talk about crazy! I felt great just to be flown up to CMH. Honestly though the whole time I was going up, I thought is it really for me? Small planes? I am a big plane kinda guy, even more so sense I am 6'2 lol. Working a DAL 757 is my DREAM! That new paint job on it is BEAUTIFUL! Not to mention DAL has the largest fleet of 75's in the world. Makes my day as its my favorite plane ever. |

RODNEY - I'm SOOOO sorry. I didn't hear the news over the weekend, but then again, there are so many wrecks up in that area that you become numb to it after a while. I'm so upset for you. I would have come to the hospital if I had known. If you need anything at all, post to me, and I can be there in a flash. Do you have any pets that need taken care of? Anything at all - you name it! |
