Hi there...WOW!! I think it is so AWESOME that you guys that are current Delta F/A's are on this board answering questions for all of us....THANK YOU SO VERY MUCH!! I am a former F/A and I resigned after I had my son back in 99. My son is now 13 and I am really hoping to return to the career I love SO much. I am super thrilled at the way Delta does reserve...it really sounds great. I was a F/A with SWA and giving away trips and picking up trips was so very easy...it really made the job as flexible as you wanted or you could pick up trips and fly as much as you wanted.....it sounds like Delta is exactly the same way!! Did I also understand that you can give away reserve days as well?? Also is the 6 days of reserve 6 days straight or broken up through out the month!! With that being said...please tell me it won't be long before Delta starts hiring non-LOD(im thinking this is the correct term) F/A's again?? SO SO excited....thanks a bunch!! :) |

Hello everyone,
Although I have been working with Rosetta Stone/Japanese for many months, I am afraid my skills in the second language may not be up to snuff. So..I am typing this with fingers crossed that Delta will be hiring non-lod FAs! My question is; As a Delta FA based @ JFK how has your experience been so far with apartments, crash pads, the general quality of life in and around JFK? Thank you for any insight! B |

Yes, you can place your Adays on the swapboard or drop them to open time. As for the swapboard, another FA can pick up your Adays, that's like playing the lotto.. :-) You can also place them to drop to open time; again, like playing the lotto; but you never know. Someone may indeed come and pick them up. Your Adays can be a block of 6 or split 3/3. As far as hiring, currently, we are only hiring JP speakers. However, there are rumors that we may hire this year, again, its only a rumor. Just keep checking the career section on delta.com I wish you continued success and if you have any other question, please howler. |

Delta FA Guy in Atlanta, Georgia said: Hello Baseball mom in Shreveport, Hi Delta FA Guy - If you don't mind, I'd like to ask, how realistic it is to give away nearly all trips if you are new,and needed more time off a particular month? Also, since Delta does not have a typical reserve for new flight attendants, is it harder to come by intl trips than if you worked as a new reserve for another mainline carrier. (ie-will a new person get 90% short domestic trips?). Thanks a lot! |
|
Delta FA Guy in Atlanta, Georgia 4 months ago |
Hello RN, From my experience, just this month I was able to get rid of my trips. I was able to pick up trips that I wanted to fly. As far as International trips, in the summer you see lots of International trips. I've been able to pick up trips to South America and Europe. Hope I was able to answer your questions and if you have any other, please let me know. |

When you are permitted to give all or most of your trips away, you may end up without company subsidized health insurance. You have to fly a minimum of 540 hours a year, which generally isn't hard to do. Just tough once you drop trips because sometimes there is nothing to pick up to increase your hours if you are counting on income. I suppose if you want to give your trips away, you probably aren't thinking of the job for health and paid vacation benefits, or even as a regular income. |

No - It's that I do a lot of computer work from home that has flexible hrs, but I would need to rely on the Delta bene's to give up my current f/t job. |

Hello everyone~! It's great to actually have a forum that one can discuss concerns and questions when it comes to FA : ) Recently I've applied to the JPN FA position and received an email to call a recruiter which I did today. She and I talked for a good while, and overall I feel like I did a great job and confident about the interview. I was wondering when is the timeframe for someone to call you back and inform you if you made the cut or not? Also, whats the step after the first phone interview? I've heard lots of different takes such as: Japanese phone interview, Japanese online test, Return phone call to say you've been chosen to go to Atlanta and take test there... -SIGH- Here's another question. I've been studying Japanese for years, and was pretty fluent at the end of it. However these past two years due to reasons (and no one to talk/study with) I haven't been studying as much as I should of been, and sadly forgotten Japanese here and there. When it comes to the Japanese Assessment test, how should one study? At the moment I'm going through my Japanese books like a madwoman since I would love this position (it's my dream job~!) I've been studying hours on end, just like the good old days : ) however I am nervous when it comes to this aspect of the job. I have Japanese friends and talk to them every so often, but I haven't been able to use my skills as of yet and would just like some advice and input on how to go about this. Thank you for reading, I hope my questions made sense! |

Hello Rosie, You live in Astoria, OR? I lived there few years myself! Your more than welcomed to email me and we can practice Japanese together, I'm native speaker and speaks English and Japanese fluently :) Email me and we can get to know each other better. I'm making call myself, as I just received email with the number. |

Xerci in Poway, California 4 months ago |
Rosie, As far as the Japanese assesment test (this is over the telephone), you won't need to read anything. It's a computer based language test. Your answers in Japanese will be recorded and forwarded to Delta HR. Second Japanese test won't happen till you get a CJO. Nothing technical, if you can speak Japanese fluently, you have nothing to worry about. Yes, just talk to your Japanese friends as often as you can. Best of luck! |

Hello, I am currently a FA with another Airline and would love to get on with Delta as a FA, but obviously DL is only hiring for JP speakers at present. Will it help if I get my foot in the company with another position? How long will I have to be with the company before I can apply as a FA and transfer? Also, for JP speakers, how easy is it to learn the language? I already speak another language and would not mind learning Japanese. |

Luv2FlyDelta in Colleyville, Texas said: Hello, Hello Luv2FlyDelta, As you know DL is only hiring JP speakers, but as you know, this industry changes daily. As for getting your foot in with the company, that may be to your advantage, however, keep in mind that if you get in at a position where the station is short staffed, you may not be able to transfer. I know of one case, where a co-worker was not able to transfer because their station was short staffed. If you can get your foot in, go ahead and do it. The above scenario doesn't happens often, but keep in mind it may. I wish you the best of luck! |

I would like to send out a friendly hello to all the soon to be and recently graduated FA's. I know when you start flying you'll be searching for durable and good quiality crew luggage. I am a recent FA grad and have TRAVEL PRO luggage i would like to sell for a resonable price. I paid $200 at the time of purchase. The two piece consists of a black double tote bag and a 22 inch suitcase which is the appropriate measurement for crew. It fits perfect in the storage area designated for flight crew. I have only used it for 4 days so the luggage is still new with no rips or tears and all functioning zippers and roller wheels. I am asking for at least $150 for the whole set. If any of you are interested please email me at kiki9975@hotmail.com. I live in the Toledo Ohio area and would be willing to meet somewhere half way to deliver. I any of you live in the surrounding area and would be interested I can also send you a picture of the luggage. Thank so much and happy travel and goood luck:-) |

Delta fa guy, thanks for all your helpful info. I'm a FA with another airline waiting for the day delta opens up the application process to non LOD. I used to work for NWA but had to quit for personal reasons, and found my self at another carrier, but homesick and hoping to go back and reconnect with old friends and fly for an amazing airline, delta. My question is I noticed in previous posts many references to the ny base and atl. When the process is complete and you guys are able to transfer to pmnw bases, do you expect that new hires will still be sent to ny or do you see them going to bases like Dtw and MSP? I know those are pretty big bases for pmnw and were fairly junior. What's your thought on that and how hard do you think it would be to get to sfo? Thanks again for all your valuable information. |

Hello Delta admirer in San Jose, California When all the bases open up, everyone is going to have the opportunity to be where they want to be (obviously, based on seniority). I know of some PMDL FA's that would like to transfer to a PMNW base and vice-versa. As far as getting SFO, as you may know those are senior bases, however, in this industry that we are associated with, you know things do change pretty fast. It's my pleasure to be able to answer any of your thoughts and or doubts. Best of luck to you. |

Thanks so much delta fa guy. A couple more questions if u don't mind? Has your pay scale been negotiated with the merger in mind. Is the payscale that's Been posted in this forum accurate? Also how easy is it to pick up international trips for non LOD? Is the rumor still out there for non LOD hiring this year? Do you think me being a former NWA flight attendant would damper my chance? Thanks again! |

I have a question about being a FA with delta. At the current airline that I'm with if you are a line holder we have a trip trade system that allows us to trade out of our current trip into another trip that is in open time. At Delta do you guys have trip trading with open time or how dose it work? |

As far as the rumor about hiring non lod speakers, it's just that, a rumor. There's nothing official. I know of former NWA FA's and they are now flying for DL. It's all about how your portray yourself during the interview process. I cannot say that being a former FA will hurt your chances, unless you was fired from NWA. Once and if we begin hiring, apply; you have nothing to lose, nonetheless ou have lots to gain........a wonderful interview experience. |

If you have a trip that you don't like and you see something in open time, you can trip trade your trip with open time. Now, there are some perimeters....example, you cannot drop below the rotation trip. For example. If you have a 3 day trip and you see a 2 day trip on OT, the system will not allow the trade. Also, if your rotation is worth 15 hours, ou cannot drop below the 15 hours. You can also request to drop our trip to OT and hope that the company drops the trip for your line. Hope the above cleared any doubts. Safe flying! |

Layovers are not vacations. If you are lucky you have 15 to 20+ hours in an international layover city...then you fly back. If you want to visit longer you fly there on your days off. |

Thanks again for the great info Delta FA Guy. I know it has been posted here before but is it possible for you to post a typical trip and or schedule to give an idea of how schedules are at Delta. I know there is not such think as typical, but maybe your schedule. Or even better, maybe a new hires schedule based in NY. trying to see how easy it might be to commute. I know NWA used to have trips up to 5 days, is that true at Delta, and also, can u pick up trips from other bases? Thanks again./ |

Question, how realistic is it for a current ATL resident to stay based in Atlanta if hired as a Delta flight attendant. I'm not averse to moving later, but in the beginning the pay is supposedly not so good, the cost to relocate would be a pain and commuting can be tricky. I've read elsewhere that Atlanta is more of a senior base...but since I already live here...? Also, I've been looking around the net, doing as much research as I can about being a flight attendant, and this forum is fantastic! Just wanted to say thanks so much to the current and former flight attendants on the board keeping it real with all of us wannabes! =D |
