seank in Portland, Oregon said: Very interesting commentary. Thanks for the input. I left this industry pre-911 and have always suspected that things have changed alot for flight attendants since that gentler era. I once had a friend at TWA who was aching to go to US Airways (or USscare as we used to call them!). Sorry to hear you had a bad experience there and admire you for hanging around for ten years. In my case United was a great place to work and if I had the decision to make over again I would never have left. But "that's life" as Sinatra used to say! Hindsight is 20/20. TWA was by far the funner airline. Flying international out of JFK was an experience I'll always cherish. But my goal was United and TWA was the Titanic of the industry. Just fresh out of training and two weeks after I went on line, flight 800 went in and suddenly the TWA rebound was history. That was especially difficult for me as I had just flown a trip to Rome with five of the flight attendants who were killed. So you ask yourself, this guy wants to go back? I know, it's hard for me to understand too! Am I going crazy? Am I trying to recapture an earlier segment of my life? Or perhaps it is simply because, as a recruiter at a World Airways open house once told me, this job really does get into your blood! Thanks for the poignant post seank in Portland, Oregon. I was with UAL, where I spent the best days of my flying career.Pals were going with World, TIA, Pan Am and the rest.(OMG!"Gateway to the World.")Thought I'd never leave either, and if I could have a chance to go back in time, I would too. I love the feeling of the "limitless options" our flying careers give us. NOT to mention the bond B/T us wing brothers and sisters! Time to come out of retirement once again....yeuup, pretty certain. One more time around the block (like 20 years worth?) & then we can request to be buried in our "navy blue's" xox (and um, "GO DUCKS!" for my Alma Mater!) |

seank in Portland, Oregon said: Does anybody know anything about LV Air (Las Vegas Air)? It's apparently a start-up to be based in Las Vegas flying 767's to various cities throughout the U.S.. They are currently accepting resumes and on their website allow you to subscribe to a newsletter. The problem is they never correspond! Not a word. I'm just wondering, are they for real or is "LV AIR" just a cover for an elaborate identy-theft ring? BTW: I did send LV Air a "help me out" email when their site wouldn't accept my .rtf resume' ...they got back to me within a day..and advised me to resend it. So I did. I hope they're for real :}it sounds like a cool place to work if you're going to do charter. For fun? Check out Baltia Airlines. Just for fun. |

Thanks for the reply. It's always nice to hear from a kindred spirit! I figure I've got about 20+ good years left in me too. I'm mid forties but feel and look younger (people tell me anyway!). It's been over ten years since I've flown but I feel like I could hop right back into the galley, start breaking up the ice and not feel like I've missed a beat! I LOVED the work and would give my eye teeth to get on with another major carrier. Things are bleak now, however. The economy sucks here and it looks like none of the major domestics are going to be hiring anytime soon. Many foreign carriers of prestigious reputation are currently hiring and of course most require second language. That doesn't help me. The only ones without language restriction are in Arabia and I just can't envision myself living in Dubai, Doha or Abu Dhabi. Does anybody have the scoop on what an Emirates open house is like? I'd be interested to know if they are hiring many U.S. citizens. London-based airlines intrigue me but you really can't get anywhere through the online application process. At least I haven't been able to and it's very discouraging. I'm a college graduate and I've got five years of experience flying for two major airlines! But alas, apparantly that's not good enough these days |

I thought it was that I didn't have the correct passport/visa to live there? Anyway, I've never been a f/a but always wanted to: applied for United in my 20's and was hired, found out I was pregnant then couldn't go to training:( Then got hired by American in my 30's and 9-11 happened and there was no training:( Now, I'm in my 40's and have carried this dream around (and different career path). I MUST keep trying as it is a passion that won't go away. Jet Blue is great and wonder if they are hiring non-spanish speakers again! |

Flew with World Airways in the 1960s. Lots of fun. Had to quit because could not be married or have kids in those days. Still miss flying. World was just international at the time. Are they still a charter airline and also flying troops overseas. |

Does anyone know any information about Continental hiring Flight attendants before or after they merge with United??? I've been checking their websites every day for a month, and it's a complete dead end. I'd really appreciate the info :) |

flight in Richmond, Virginia 11 months ago |
Last I heard Continental will need to hire FA's this year but they were trying to work it out with the unions so that United FA's could fill those spots until the merger is completed. If they can not work out an agreement then Continental will probably need to hire. I don't remember were I read this but it was a reputable website. |

I recently watched an IAM panel-style meeting between United and Continental flight attendants (I know, what a snore!). There were a few interesting tidbits of info, however. They made it sound like United is currently overstaffed and Continental is understaffed, making the merger a timely affair indeed. I also recently spoke on the phone to an inflight person at United ops in Seattle and she told me that the Japan quake has necessitated cuts and will probably result in 500 F/A's being furloughed. UAL is NOT in a position to hire anytime soon. As for Continental, who knows? They may hire, but I doubt it. They will most likely wait until the merger takes effect and then assess their workforce needs. Don't mean to be a wet blanket! Believe me, being a former UAL F/A, I'd go back in a New York nanosecond! |

*Sigh* lol well I def. appreciate the feedback! I'm thinking maybe I should reevaluate this career :( It took me awhile to figure out what I wanted to do. I've researched etc. and got really excited about it and now it's just a no-go lol. I'm still going to try and be patient. It's been dead ends non-stop everywhere (delta, jetblue, southwest,us airways ets.,Maybe I'm looking in the wrong places? Their websites say we are reevaluating out programs or not accepting apps. at this time. If you guys have any other resources that would give me a little more info it would be wonderful!!!! |

Hey lrod10! I wasn't implying you should give up! Hang in there and like you said be patient. Things are bound to change. In all of the industry reading I've done it looks like some U.S. airlines are doing well and are expanding their route structures and ordering new aircraft. That's a good sign for people like us. The acquisition of just one aircraft by an airline can often necessitate increased workforce needs. Airlines to keep an eye on: Alaska-They are doing well and seem to add routes frequently. Virgin America-They did some hiring a few years back and have many planes on order. Other than that, I would recommend foreign airlines if you are inclined to such a big step or perhaps U.S. regional. They seem to be doing all the hiring right now. I've considered regional myself just to get a foot back in the door but at 6'1" I'm over the height limit. Another factor against us is that flight attendants tend to stay in their jobs a long time. I don't think there is a mandatory retirement age like there is for pilots. Senior F/As don't like to retire because they have such a sweet deal that they've worked many years to attain. And yet another sticky issue is the economy and the huge amount of people wanting to do this job. The competition promises to be stiff. But keep your chin up! You just never know. |

If I were you I'd consider applying to SW in the ticket/customer service dept. I have been told that way you at least have a way in since they do look at their own first. So many of their customer service agents have filled the FA positions. Feel ya - they would be great to work for and are almost impossible to get into. Good luck |

Whats the deal with US Airways? They have been hiring for a few months out of PHX. I have submitted several online applications only to get a "sorry try next time" type of email. Are there any tips and or tricks to get it. I suspect that my resume/ application isnt making it passed the computers. Is there any keyword or anything I should use? I have tons of customer service exp and airline ramp exp. see ya up there. |

I applied with Alaska Airlines for Flight Attendant by the August 6th deadline and now it is August 17th and I haven't heard anything. Has anyone else who applied gotten a response back yet? Would love to know! Wondering if they just had so many applicants to reveiw or my resume didn't make it through the computer filter. Any feedback would be very much appreciated:) |

When they say you must speak Japanese, do you have to be native-level fluent? I've taken two years of Japanese at my college, but I don't know if I know enough for what they want... |

fluency in Japanese is required. Must be able to speak, read, write Japanese & pass language test. To be qualified. So if you know japanese i would go for it. Also Allegiant has 2 MGR of inflight open. You have to have minimum two (2) years supervisory experience; preferably in the airline industry. |

Hey all I know most of you are trying to get into the flight attendant lifestyle and i wanted to extend my offerings and current success with one of the top airlines in the industry today. Keep checking the websites considering most airlines are in the middle of a merger or have already merged most of them will be losing flight attendants or some will be retiring, therfore alot of the major airlines will be posting make it a daily rotuine that you check there wesites at least 3 times a day you never know when they are gonna post forget this forum and keep your eyes on the prize. If you must be on this forum WATCH WHAT YOU SAY enough said get your resumes ready so that you are ready because once the job is posted you never know how long its gonna be up there for keep your head up and stay positive if you dont get a call back its not because you didnt get it the are just about a doz people that are working on over 200,000 applicants if you have any questions about the job post here and i will answer them as best as i can as i cant give away interview secerts but i can talk about the job |

Hi, Ive applied to what feels like over 20 different airlines for the past 2 years, the only time I got an interview was with ASA and I'm pretty sure it was because a flight attendant let me use her as a referral. Either way, I dont want to give up, but I have yet to hear anything back from all of these applications. Am I missing something? If there is any sort of trick to getting your resume' noticed, I'd love to know! Thanks- |

shellydoby in Broomfield, Colorado said: Does anyone know how to become a corporate flight attendant. Don't even know where to start. You must have "FLIGHT SAFETY" or "F.A.C.T.S." training. It is expensive training that you will pay for out of your own pocket. DO NOT...I repeat DO NOT go to any other flight attendant school ~ they are rip offs and will teach mostly Gate Agent / Ramp info. The only two that are recognized in the Part 91 & 135 corporate aviation world are the above mentioned. I suggest looking at www.corporateflyer.net for more info. or contacting the National Business Aviation Association (NBAA). Good Luck ! |

You should also check out Women in Corporate Aviation (www.wca-intl.org) for mentoring, scholarships and guidence. NetJets and Bombardier Flexjet will train you if they hire you; most everyone else will require you to get trained on your own at FlightSafety or FACTS, as previously mentioned, and that runs about $5,000 each. |
