So true-they are definitely wordy, but I did email one of the recruiters in re. those, and he said that we don't have to have them memorized for that first test, we just need to be familiar with 'em. I got a "last call" email the other day asking me to confirm that I'm still planning to attend the training, so I'm guessing that I'll see the flight and hotel info within the next few days. I'm listing ORD, IAD, and CLT as my choices. IAD would be home for me since I'm from VA, but I kinda want to give ORD a chance. |

Quick question-is anyone planning to fully move to wherever they're assigned to, or is everyone going to pretty much do the commute/crash pad thing? |
|
Future FA for YV in Troutman, North Carolina 25 months ago |
No, I am sending a box out with me checking it on the flight, instead of an extra suitcase. And whatever I don't take with me to my base, I am going to send home after training. also I am hoping to get CLT but if not I am going to Crash Pad it. I own a house in Troutman NC and don't really want to move, I will get to CLT one day I am sure. |

I'm renting a place right now in TX, but my gf lives in Chicago (hence the reason I'm trying to get ORD), so I plan to move in with her (if the commute from her suburb to O'Hare isn't too horrendous). Oh, and my name's Santisha-can't wait to meet you! |
|
VA4Life in Killeen, Texas 25 months ago |
Oh, and in re. Thanksgiving Day, as GREAT as it would be to have the day off (planned a really big dinner/weekend with my gf), I'm putting my odds on the fact that we won't be off....it would be really nice though, huh..... |
|
Future FA for YV in Troutman, North Carolina 25 months ago |
That would be great for you. I will look for you and let you know as soon as I get my hotel info. I am flying out Monday at 925am from CLT. See you in PHX. I heard the Del Rio is awsome. sound like a college dorm........too old for all that but it does sound fun. I just hope I don't get roomed with a snorer(very light sleeper) hahaha! I am bringing lots of treats too, and My Tea bags. |

Great, I'll look for you as well! I haven't heard anything about the Del Rio or seen any pics, so again, I'm going in with an open mind....college dorm style? Yeah, that could be fun....I'm a pretty easygoing individual, so I'm hoping to get along with whomever I'm roomed with. I'm going to ATTEMPT to pack lots of goodies, but I have a feeling that I'll be making a trip to the nearby Wal-Mart! And we can at least dream of a nice turkey dinner, right???? |

ps - there is no way you will get CLT as a base. the only bases they are really hiring for right now is washington dulles and chicago. i heard chicago is almost full. they did pull some people to phoenix. |
|
Timothy in Mesa, Arizona 25 months ago |
Well ya, the del rio is in a bad part of town, won't deny that :). But the company has its good and bad. And no, you won't get CLT right away, it would take time and senority. But people have gone to some of the more 'senior' bases recently. You most likely will start PHX, IAD or ORD :) |

Not to be negative, but once you go on the line you guys will need luck. Mesa is not known as a benevolent employer. You'll have long duty days and will be paid only for when you're flying. You'll have to wait a while before you build enough seniority to hold the lines and domiciles you want. You might ask if FAs are "junior manned." Finally, don't be surprised to encounter an unhappy pilot group. Good luck. Mesa, and aviation, are not what they're cracked up to be. |

Okay, Okay, I think most everyone who is sending in comments has the smarts and heart to want to try this. As in any job there is bound to be good and bad. However, PLEASE let us make the choice to go, not go, like it, dislike it or whatever. FA's are suppose to be spontaneous, out going and friendly(perky almost), and kind. So please stop with all the negitive stuff and allow us to enjoy our decision to try and be the best Flight Attendants we can be. If its that bad why are there hundred's of thousdands all over the world? Please don't answer that. I love this forum, Its been very helpful and we are all adults. GOOD LUCK everyone and be proud of the choice you made, I am! :) |

I want to fly alot. Can you help with anything that will help us get through the training? What is it like? Days off to study? and anything you can tell us about the del Rio? Can we walk to shopping? What not to bring and what to bring? Do they have irons/and boards? Just want to do my best............Email me if you can or the forum. Here is my email ppochick@yahoo.com |

Future FA for YV in Troutman, North Carolina: "As in any job there is bound to be good and bad." ....and, believe me, there is plenty of "bad" at Mesa. "If [it's] that bad why are there hundred's of [thousands] [of flight attendants] all over the world?" There are not "hundreds of thousands" of flight attendants all over the world. And aviation jobs are NOT like other jobs where "the bad" is comparatively minor. In aviation the "bad" is bad. Along with "junior manning" ask about "standup overnights." Ask how long you can expect to sit reserve until you have enough seniority to hold a line. Last but not least, ask about probation. But, you are right. You are all adults and can make choices. Just be forewarned that Mesa Airlines is not exactly the greatest aviation company on earth. I've been there and done it. |

Good point, Future. I think that for alot of us, this experience will be what we make of it. I've read the good and the bad, and I don't think that this opportunity will present anything that I can't handle. And, if worse come to worse, I can walk away from it if it isn't right for me. I will, however, give it a chance, because it just isn't in me to be defeated before I even try:) |

Future FA for YV in Troutman, North Carolina: "Displaced, I really want to know if you are still with Mesa? I sure hope not." No, thank G-d. I was a pilot and a flight instructor briefly at Mesa's flight school in FMN. Read my comments, above, about how Mesa lied to me. Some people have a high tolerance for lies and lousy treatment. I don't. "What about probation?" If you worked for a major for twenty years you know as well as anyone that you walk a fine line during your first year. Get crosswise with *anyone* and you can be out the door. You probably know the stories about female FAs being harassed if they refuse male pilots' passes. It's your word against the pilot's (and what if he is a Captain). The union can't help you because, as I recall, you cannot join until after probation. I don't know if Mesa has a FA union. I have a friend who got on with COEX. Nice guy and a good pilot. He did fine in training but immediately after IOE he was canned. He deserved better. Airlines have changed a lot over the years. Jobs aren't nearly as good as they were years ago. Just beware. Good luck with your training. |

Future FA for YV in Troutman, North Carolina: "Mesa FA's are part of of AFA." That's a positive sign. Mesa FAs deserve representation. For years Mesa resisted all unionization efforts. The pilots needed a lot of gumption to finally achieve ALPA unionization. Even so, about five years ago Mesa started an alter-ego airline, called Freedom Airlines, to try to bust ALPA (Get the pun? How funny.). Several Mesa pilots "scabbed" to fly for Freedom. I recognized a couple of names on the Freedom pilot list; neither name surprised me. Both individuals were a$$holes. Eventually, ALPA and Mesa signed a new contract and there was no more Freedom (sorry). "I am going in with the best attitude I can and I am going to love it *or move onto something else.*" For Mesa that is the best attitude you can have. Once again, best of luck with class. |

I AGREE WITH DISPLACED LEGAL PROFESSIONAL. STAY AWAY FROM MESA. THEY DON'T CARE ABOUT THEIR EMPLOYEES AT ALL - WHICH IS WHY THEY HAVE TRAINING CLASSES ALL THE TIME. THE TURNOVER IS HORRIBLE. LOOK AT MAINLINE EMPLOYERS - THEY USUALLY HAVE LESS THAN 10 TRAINING CLASSES A YEAR. MESA HAS THEM ALMOST EVERY WEEK!
