I got all the airport codes and arline codes down. I am 1/2 way thru the main announcement.(I am hoping that is the safety one Tim is referring to.) Feeling better about knowing it word for word. It was very overwheming looking at 7 of them. I am taking it paragraph by paragraph. I still have 3 weeks before training class begins. I think I will have them all down pat. But I do agree with you...they are wordy!!!

There is a wealth of information about the airlines both online and books. And you're right - I have a ton of stories from the hilarious to the downright terrifying. I began my fa "career" flying a turboprop for the first year and I loved it so much I started taking flying lessons. Alas, by the time I got off reserve I would be grounded by age and so let that idea go in a hurry. Besides, I don't think I could live much of a life on poor pilot pay which could be less than fa pay the first couple years. Anyhow, when you're in the industry a while you get to meet and hear fa's and pilots from a lot of different airlines and I never heard much good about Mesa. We had several fa's that bailed from Mesa to delta connex but it was like jumping from one frying pan to another for them. I don't recall reading that book but I will look it up.

Hi Everyone!
I thought I'd come on here and let you know what to expect from training. Be prepared to study hard and get used to being tired! It's not bad, though.
I am in the current (newest) class right now with Judy. We just got our domiciles. I'd have to say probably 2/3 of the class got Washington-Dulles (IAD). I was one of the few who got ORD and I heard that it was full now, but who knows. There were two people in our class who got Grand Junction (GJT)! No one got PHX. As far as the other bases go, it sounds like they aren't hiring for Freedom which means you won't get MCO, JFK or ATL. I guess I'm saying to be prepared to get IAD, because that is what most of you will get. It seems to be happening in most of the classes.
Make sure you have your flashlight with extra batteries, ear plugs, pens and a working watch. If you don't have it, you will get written up - it is a FAA requirement.
My day here has started by waking up at 3 am to get ready. We meet at the hotel lobby at 4:30 am to catch the shuttle to the Del Rio for class. We usually get out of class between 2:30 and 3 pm. Class has been starting the past few days at 5:30 am. When the new class comes on the 24th I was told that we will be switching to the 3pm - Midnight shift. I am a night owl, so that makes me happy! =)
Good luck to you newbies! Study hard!

Thanks,

I started training last Wednesday. They tested us on everything in the packet they sent. Know your announcements!!!
As far as ORD goes, I think there were like 4 or 5 of us that got it. There were people in the class that wanted it but didn't get it, because there weren't any spots and their seniority was lower than mine. There was a guy who visited our class who was stationed in PHX (he just graduated), but he said he just put in a bid to get ORD, so he'd have more seniority than you guys. I think there were a few people in our class who were trying to get it as well. I feel really lucky that I got ORD. If my social didn't start with a 0, I doubt I would have gotten it.
ORD and IAD are some of the more expensive places to live in. I did hear somewhere that Mesa is running a crashpad in IAD, though.
Make sure you guys have enough money in the bank to get you through. We're staying at the Windemere Hotel and there's a Jack n' the Box across the street as well as a Walgreen's. We try to get a shuttle to take us to Walmart now and then, but it is usually once a week. Eating fast food everyday gets old, and it isn't the greatest for your body or wallet!

Thanks for all the info. I am really hoping for ORD...I live here! However will accept what is given to me. My social starts with a 2...so my fingers are crossed. The crashpad Mesa runs in IAD...do you know what they are asking for as far as rent? Tryin to prepare....trip up to the local Target tonight...got my alarm clock and flashlight (with extra batteries)...lol. Wow...the list doesnt seem to end.

Lisa

I think the Mesa run crashpad is $200/month.

I am getting very excited and a little scared. I hope to get IAD and it looks like that might be a possiblity. YEAH! East coast girl. Anyway I like the 3pm-12pm better for me. I love to sleep. but am a night owl too. How is the test with the announcements? fill in the missing words? like the sample test they sent? Thats the only thing I am a little worried about. It doesn't sound that bad ( the del Rio) The way some decribe I thought we would need guns to protect ourselves. hehehhe. I am bringing a box of stuff that I will send home after training too. I hate fast food. See ya on the 24th.

I have a question if anyone can please answer.

Are the crashpads your own room? Or do others use it when your not there? I am a little confused about this. I don't really want an apartment somewhere because I don't want a lease. If anyone can answer thanks Just planning a little for the future. Thanks Again.

there are a variety of crash pad arrangements and often you will have to try a few till you get a good fit. the rent usually depends on how much space you get, if the room is furnished, and if you will have your own bath. a private furn room and private bath (share rest of house and any amenities like pool, tennis, laundry, cable, etc) generaly runs about $250 to $500/mo. A shared room (say 2 twin beds or bunk) and shares bath can run $150 to $300/mo, the cheapeast being shared beds (hot beds) where you don't even get your own bed but take whatever one is empty. roommates run from all pilots to all fa's to a mix of both, all from one airline or from diff airlines or occupations. they usually include the utilities and hopefully a place to park yr airport car.

If you find a good one usually it's your room when asking about crashpads make sure that the owner does not allow hotbeds....meaning that he/she rents to anyone that needs a bed for the night.you should really check out www.crashpads.com or www.crewcomute.com .The average price for a crashpad in a major city is $200.00 a month with the exception of
New York ..that's about $250.00. Crashpads can be reallybe cool if you get the right one ....questions that should be asked are how far are you from the airport? How many people are currently there? Is your crashpad located near a bus or train line? Is there a desposit ? do you have animals ? is there a Washer and Dryer ? Is cable include in the rent...it usually is . I had a blast when I did it ...Some CrashPads can be known a party central so just choose wisley.

Dash-8 was extra roomie for people who are tall, like myself(standing in at 5'9'') but of course they're only flown out of PHX, DEN, and GJT. The 900 wasn't bad either, super long too, i look forward to flying on them. Had a test today over preflights, went pretty well, look forward to graduation on the 31st. Hi Tamika,

Judging from the prev. posts, you should have a good chance of getting IAD....I'm hoping to slide into ORD by a stroke of luck, but IAD's my 2nd choice...I'm actually from that area, so it wouldn't be entirely unbearable. Have you found any nice crash pads in the Dulles area?

I'm was happy to read all the interesting discussions on here, I see a couple of you want ORD, I'm hoping for the same, but heard too, they are filled up :0(
Maybe they just take so many of us from each class to place here(ORD).
I will be attending the November 14th class, I see alot of you will be starting before me, good luck to all and I will be meeting you shortly.
