XJFA in Southaven, Mississippi said: We at Mesaba just got news today that Delta is Giving back 10 of our Saab airplanes to Saab starting in september and canceling the rest of the classes for this year after the May class is done It is true that we are returning 10 Saabs to the manufacturer, but there has been no official news of cancellation of classes. Those of you who are scheduled for class would most likely be the first to know if your class gets canceled. The Saabs are going to be returned gradually (two per month)and as of currently, there has been no announcement of furloughs. I can tell you that each month they post our FA staffing needs on MyMesaba (which can always change). As of right now, they are proposing needing only one FA in DTW, five in MSP and four in MEM. But keep in mind, this changes every month as people quit or get fired and as Delta reconfigures our flying. A LOT is happening right now with the merger and Delta is making changes every day. So right now, it's pointless to try to speculate what is going to happen. You never know for sure until it ACTUALLY happens. That's why I gave up on galley gossip years ago. Let's please stick to the FACTS on this board and not lower ourselves to the gossip monger level of certain other regional airlines...it's not classy. |

I am so sorry for you guys that were in the June class and for us in the pool in DTW, I certainly hope someone lets us know for sure what is going on. But the letters we in the pool got said to make no lifestyle changes until you know for sure when you are going to training. I am glad I have a good job and will just wait as long as it takes. Good Luck everyone. |

Mary said there would be no class until at least september. so that sucks Try to keep some faith...even though they are not PLANNING a class until September, the airline industry is always changing (especially Mesaba, considering the merger) and nothing is ever set in stone. Just be ready for anything. As far as I know, they have not canceled the June class...but just cut it down. Correct? |

Thank you for all your straight talk. |

The next day I received word that I was going to be held until the June class. As of yet, I haven't heard anything from HR - not even an exact start date, just what I've heard here on the board. I'm just curious and wondering if I should call, being as I've heard the class starts June 22, and that's less than 2 weeks away. I am anxious, but also patient. I just want to know if I need to make the certain arrangements to leave or not... |

So they actually said "canceled" and not just a cut-back, huh? That's really too bad! :( But I guess you guys are getting a taste of what it's like to actually work for the airlines...as we never know what the heck is going on until it happens. Just hang in there...the ones that do are the ones who really deserve the job. |

I was supposed to be in the June class that was cancelled, not just cut back. When I spoke with H.R. they said that I would be the next in line, in the pool, but she could not tell me when the next class would be. Things change constantly and quickly. I was slated for the May class, then just before leaving, I was held to the June class, which is now cancelled. So let's hope Delta gets this thing figured out (and it works in Mesaba's favour!!) and we get called for the September class. (At least we get to enjoy the summer!) |

Hello everyone, well I got a new letter from Mesaba today stating that I was still in the pool but all classes are being reevaluated due to reallocation of aircraft by Delta. The letter states "At this time we have no further information as to when or if new hire classes will be initiated in the future. When positions become available and classes are scheduled you will be contacted. Because of the relative uncertainty of our industry during these turbulent times, we suggest you maintain your current position and lifestyle until we contact you to confirm your final class date." Thought everyone might be interested in this letter. Good luck to all and keep your fingers crossed that we all get into a class eventually and that the economy gets better for all. |

Thanks, Mr FA!
Those of you who are looking into a career as a FA, I haven't even started flying yet, but I can tell you that the 4 weeks of training we just finished were very emotionally taxing. The information isn't necessarily hard, but there's a lot of it, and it comes at you at a million mph. Be prepared. However... after finishing the class, I feel like I can do anything... conquer the the world. It was so so so worth it. All the late nights, and studying were so worth it, you guys. Good luck to all of you as you continue your journey! Let me know if you have any questions at all! |

Just curious, what was said about loosing the Saabs? Are they getting different planes to replace them or what? Are they adding new and/or more routes to justify more FA's? Interested in what you were told on that front? |

SHNSPC@AOL.COM in North Baltimore, Ohio said: No replacements guys, furloughs have been declared Your extremely general and short post is misleading. It's statements like these that start rumors and galley gossip. Yes, furloughs have been announced - for the pilot group. There has been nothing said about the flight attendant group. Although we are phasing out 10 Saabs, if one takes the time to look at the future scheduling of the routes these planes are currently serving, you will see that the service is being replaced in some markets by CRJs. Although we are currently not getting new aircraft, the CRJs we already have will be getting more utilization. Also, some markets are downgrading from mainline service to CRJ service, which also gives our aircraft more utilization. I'm not saying a flight attendant furlough WON'T happen, because things always and quickly change in the aviation industry. But at this point, it looks like we may be safe. Just keep in mind; Delta is changing things every day...and no one knows what will happen until it has already happened. |

Hello, everyone. I have read some of these posts and I wish to share a story about caution with all of you. I am a flight attendant with Southwest and very happy with my job. My roommate however, was not so lucky. She used to work as a flight attendant for Air Wisconsin Airlines. Two years after being hired she worked with a first officer who sexually harassed her in a very disturbing manner. She became afraid and asked the EAP and Union for help. She asked to not be scheduled with him ever again. They called the first officer and asked about the incident but he denied it, and both, EAP and Union representatives told her that since he did not admit to it they couldn't do a thing. Less than a week after that the first officer started insulting her whenever he saw her, shoving her when he walked by her, and she started getting nasty messages from unknown numbers saying she was a b**ch for complaining to the EAP and union and that she was trying to get him fired and ruined his career and now she had to suffer the consequences. The strange messages became more insulting and when we tried to trace them found out they were from pre-paid phones or phone cards. Then she started to see him pretty much everywhere she went. She went to the police to request a retraining order but since he had not left any physical evidence and had not been violent they said all they could do was file a report and petition. She took the report to the Air Wisconsin and asked management for help. All she wanted was to not be schedule with him ever again, but they said he had denied everything and there was nothing they could do. She went to work every day with fear that she may have to fly with him. Finally it happened. They were scheduled for a two day trip and when she showed up and saw him was so afraid that she started vomiting and had to call in sick. The following week the same thing happened and she had a panic attack. He continued scaring her and her panic attacks got worse. |

So i have two empty rooms in my house, and I am thinking about setting them up as crash pads. Does anyone have any experience, or advice. Do people care if they have to share the room? Is there even a need for crash pads in memphis? Congrats to those that graduated! |

I just hope there is a class and those of us in DTW finally get out of the pool and into a training class. The forum has been so quiet that I was a little anxious about what is happening. Good luck to everyone that is flying and to those of us in the pool may we hear something before the year is out. |

was in Atlanta, Georgia said: has anybody hear about mesaba coming to columbus ga Mesaba will definitely not be going to Columbus, GA. Currently, Mesaba only hires at-base...which is DTW, MEM and MSP. Additionally, they are not actively hiring at this time...as they already have a sizable pool of candidates awaiting training and no training classes scheduled to put them into. |
