It's glad to see this board come alive again. I interviewed in DTW last week, so I will hopefully know something in the next couple of days. I told them that I would be available for the class on the 27 October, so who knows. If they call me, i'll be packing my stuff up here in Orlando and heading for Detroit! Hopefully I will get to see some of you guys in the next class! *Wish me luck*!

I went to an open house recently and took some notes...according to my notes...I believe the pay during training is somewhere around $37.50 per day. How long did it take after your OH to get a call for the interview...it's been a week so far for me...getting a little anxious!

Hi Joy,

I had my interview two days after the OH, but thats only because when they called me back in I explained to them that I wasnt from MN and had only two days off from my job. She explained that since i had paid to fly down there and needed to get back home, that they would put me on the list for the first interview.

Hi everyone...well, went to the Oct. 29th open house... did the whole routine open house schedule and we were all told that we'd get a call in a week or two... the thing is, they called me sooner than i thought... i called human resources back because i had a missed call from them... does anyone think that this will work against me? are they even gonna bother calling me back. it's just that i wasn't home at the time that they called but i called them back.... gosh, i'm so nervous.... i didn't expect them to call so soon..... any insight???!!!! also, i have a question regarding my employment history... i left out some part-time jobs from my resume and application because they were short-held jobs that didn't last long.... i thought that they would just make my application look bad... should i tell them at the interview? i honestly don't know the impact it'll take on me but, should i let them know anyways.... HELP?1?!?!?!?!?!?

Molly,
I went to the open house interview Oct. 22 and they told me the same thing. And also, got a call sooner for interview. I got a call yesterday offering a spot in the Dec. training class. I think that if they called you back right away then they are interested! About the short jobs you left out.....I would just not bring it up. I think they are most interested in knowing that you understand the good/bad aspects of FA job and are sure that it is something that you want to do. It's up to you, but if there are employment gaps then they might ask you? Sorry not much help on that question!

That's what it sounds like. When we had our open house in Oct. they explained that the training date would be Nov. 24th. They went into detail about the holidays.....A little confused over here.

Yes that's what I remember, Nov. 24 is start of Nov. training with Thanksgiving day and Friday off but then back in class on Sat. and Sun. that week. And I am sure she said that Nov. class was full, unless someone cancels. So the next class starts Dec. 29. I did not ask about New Year holiday, but I guess it's safe to assume it may work like the Thanksgiving holiday - get a day off and make it up on the weekend.

Joy,
I would not get too worried, if they said it would be a 2-3 weeks to get back to you. Mine went fast because I was traveling a distance to get to the OH and so I got an interview the next day since I was in the area. Also, I see on their website that they have added more OH sessions.......so I think they are ramping up for more training with the NW and Delta merger????? I am assuming here, but that is what I have gleened from the forums I have been watching.

I was a flight attendant for Mesaba for 5 months and just left the airlines. When I started, I didnt actually receive my packet until about 4 days prior to starting my 1st day ( i was hired 1 week prior to starting). but I do recall that many of my classmates received their packets about 1 to 2 weeks before the start of class : ) good luck

It was fine in the beginning, I knew that I wouldnt get the schedule I wanted right away etc... but I went 4 months straight without a friday, saturday, or sunday off and was working full time and taking home no more than 600 (and that was a good check lol) every 2 weeks; I eventually couldnt do it anymore : ( unfortunately

I understand. So here I go, I am not going to bomb-bard you with questions! After training, how soon did you start working? Did you have time to relocate, or did you go straight from training to working? You said not fri, sat, sun off - what was a typical schedule like? How many days in a row did you typically get off?
Were you on reserve the whole time? Okay, I'll stop here! :) Thanks for any info. just curious as to what exactly to expect.

Haha - thats a lot of questions! I don't mind answering them, as I wish I had someone to give me this information prior to me starting.

We finished training on a thursday, some of my class members were flying that Saturday, I flew that Sunday so 2 or 3 days ( I actually think, there were 2 people that flew that very next day). So you pretty much go straight from training to working. You'll do your training immediately after graduation, usually 2 or 3 days with another flight attendant so you get certified on the planes then I was put on reserve the day after I got done training.

I was lucky enough to only be on reserve for 2 weeks, since I bid a hi speed line and got it the first month. So I worked overnights started work on thursday at 7 pm, took the last flight out, slept and took the first flight home in the am ( got about 4 hours sleep per night after you're all checked in etc...) I did that every week thurs, fri, sat, and sun night, and was off during the days and on mon tues and wed I had the whole days off.

I kept bidding hi speed lines, bc I had a job I had to do, but many of my classmates were on reserve for a couple months. My first day after training I was on reserve and they called me at 5 am and I had to be at the airport in 2.5 hours packed and ready to go. So make sure you're prepared to work !

: )

Thank you for sharing this info. And when I said I would "not" bombard you with questions, I meant I will "now" bombard you....:)

Do you know what the 4 day flights represent as far as where they go etc. They said that you could be gone for up to 6 days. Is that away from your base? When you did your high speeds, were you back to your base each of those mornings or out the whole time?

Sorry if these seem like redundant questions....I'm just trying to get the whole picture. I personally would like to be away from base for as long as possible. Are those called 4 days?

Yes, when you do a 4 day or a 3 day or 2 day etc... You will be on the clock around the clock for that period of time. You could possibly end up at your base for a few hours or so, but you will not be leaving the airport as you will have another flight out.

Hi speeds, you will end up back at your base every morning, usually no later than 10 am or so, but will have to be back at the airport around 7 pm that night for the last flight out again and so on. You spend the days at home, but keep in mind with 3-4 hours sleep some nights, after 2 nights of hi speeds I would automatically fall asleep every day i got home for a few hours atleast; its quite trying .

4 day trips you will have an agenda that tells you how your whole trip is laid out before hand. You will be with the same crew the whole time, and at the hotels etc.. with your crew

Hey, I'm wondering if anyone from the Oct. OH has gotten a call for an interview yet....I've been a FA for another carrier for a few years and am currently flying for a private charter airline out of Detroit. Not many hours available...which is why I'm looking into Mesaba. I have an interview with another company [not the airline industry] tomorrow. I called HR to see if they passed on me or if they just haven't called anyone yet...I got an answering machine and no call back. Any advice from the forum? Once this flying thing gets in your blood, it's hard to think of doing anything else!

you should pack a couple suits, Mostly business casual, and on a few days where you have hands on training you'll be able to wear jeans. But they are pretty strict on the dress code, I know a few people got pulled out of class per day and talked to about not wearing proper attire. No open toed shoes, your hair must be pulled back etc... no bangs in your face etc...

Molly,
"Annonymous" will probably have more insite than me, but here is what I remember from my interview: They ask questions relating to past work related situations involving things like, handling customers, co-workers, and things involving safety. They want to know how you handled the situation and what was the outcome. So be prepared with some answers for those kinds of questions. We also talked about the job and details involving living arrangements etc. But I think I was bringing up a lot of those kinds of questions. I was interviewed by Mary too, don't be nervous they were very nice. Good luck!

Yes, you need black luggage, I believe it has to be standard size , or smaller, a pull along, and your purse has to be black, oh and your jacket in the winter .

As for the blood test question, ummm, I guess I'm not sure why you're asking that... probably not a good thing if you're concerned . I'm not sure what they look for. As long as you don't do drugs, I'm sure everyone is fine : )
