Hello everyone,
I've been reading...and reading...and reading this blog and for another regional. With that being said I have tried to make myself as knowledgeable as possible prior to asking some questions about Pinnacle. First, if you currently are a FA with Pinnacle-- would you work for the company knowing what you know now? Next, if you were to give a new hire 1 bit of advice what would it be? Currently I reside in the Tulsa Ok area working as a paramedic, I enjoy what I do to some extent. Seeing what has to be seen on a daily basis can be hard and stressful mentally and physically so I figure at the age of 22 (Started right out of high-school) its time to make a career change. My current employer does not offer retirement, does Pinnacle it? What are some of the health benefits (cost)? Seems like there is no money to be made as a FA, just like as a paramedic. With that said, do you find it difficult to pay your bills as an average person, or is it on the edge or poverty? Also, we all know Tulsa is no major airport which would require me to re-locate (which is fine... Tulsa is boring). Would you say being on reserve its hard to ever see your family? Some carriers tell reserves they will get at least 2-3 days off in a row a month, I cant find anything talking about that with Pinnacle. Also, in the last 3 years I have held medic jobs at 3 separate companies, 2 because they laid some of us off and the other due to poor management. Is having 3 jobs in 3 years bad...making them not hire you?

Thank you for taking the time to read this ever so long paragraph and also taking the time to answer my question(s). If you don't want to post answers in this public forum that is fine, my e-mail is krn2009@gmail.com.

I will go into a little more detail than Kimmatt has. I worked for Pinnacle for just over 6 months. I would NOT recommend anyone who is currently employed to quit to work there. You might get 2 days off together and but if you mistakenly answer your phone when crew scheduling calls you will be forced to work on your day off. When I worked there I sat in the airport for 12-13 hours straight waiting to see if someone called in sick or didn't show up. I had home reserve 4 times in 6 months and it was a miserable time. The pay is horrible because you never flew any extra hours but the minimum. There is NOT a retirement and they do not add to your 401k. Don't think you will be on reserve for a short period of time...people I know are either back on reserve or have never not been off reserve and they were hired in 2008.

If you are looking for a new life experience there are a lot of cities that pay their paramedics quite well. With the possibility of American going bankrupt your chances of getting into a traditional mainline airline might be tough. If I were in my early 20's I might try JetBlue or Southwest airlines, but you might need to know someone to get an interview with them.

Good Luck

Do not!!! I REPEAT, Do not leave a job to work for Pinnacle!!' all the reasons are soooooo true that are stated above!! You will starve and it's not the glamourpys world of travel that many think....the destinations youwill go toare little towns that many have absolutely no interest in going to, that's y mainline doesn't run those routes! Pinnacles pay is among the worst inthe industry and their travel benefits are minimal...I work for mainline and our pay isn't even great, but Pinnacle starts about 6 bucks less per hour, you will starve!! Run as fast as you can, keep trying to get mainline!!

I work for delta, and while I can't speak for pinnacle benefits, I see Pinnacle employees riding us all the time!! Being that they are one if the regional carriers we use, you should have full benefits, but I believe your buddy passes are either non existent or the worst in the industry...correct me if I'm wrong pinnacle folks!!

Do not work for any regional carrier. And I worked for Pinnacle for 3 months and it was the most unfortunate time of my life. I normally do not post or reply on peoples forums but I must tell you because I wish someone would have kept it real with me.
If you are a reserve at Pinnacle you will be living at poverty line. It is not worth the training and money you invest to be there and it is not reciporcated. Its not worth it. If you want to be a FA go to a mainline carrier.

Negativity isn't going to get you any where. Some can not get to mainline the first time. Regional isn't the best but it is a place to start. You have to go through reserve until you can bid for a high speed line and i've been having one for the past few months and have been good with money. Just have to know how to budget and stay positive. You should have researched before you got the job. I did so I knew what I was getting into before I even applied. Also, mainline isn't always the best either. Heard people that work at Delta are having hard times as well. Mainline hires and they fire so there isn't really any stability. If that isn't happening then they're going into bankruptcy. So you're really not safe anywhere it's what you make it to be.

I can agree with you on the point that it's hard to get on with mainline and that regional is a good way to get your foot in the door....I have worked for regional and I am with mainline now, but I can tell you that it's like night and day. The difference in benefits and pay is tremendous....with mainline there is better schedules and destinations as well....but stability ANYWHERE in this industry doesn't exist, it fluctuates with the cost of fuel. I do believe the pay with regional based on all you do along with the responsibilities is bordering on abusive. Mainline pay is low as well, but no where as low as Pinnacle and for most requires a serious budget. We do so much less at mainline for wayyyyy better pay...but it is what it is...as long as there is a demand for employment, employers can keep offering low pay :(

Mainline is the way to go for sure, however if you really want to get hired by a mainline find someone who works for one to for one to get a personal referral. Counting on working at a regional airline to get a mainline flight attendant job is a mistake. Pilots start at a regional because they need the flight hours to meet the minimum standards the major airlines require. Now to Pinnacle, this airline told me when I was hired they were beginning their hiring and expected to hire hundreds of flight attendants after me. Then after 6 months of being in reserve they again told me they were gearing up to hire again, then 2 weeks later told me that they wouldmn't be hiring for a year or more. Their business practices are just unbelievable, recently I heard that they required airport reserve flight attendants to report to the airport at 7pm for late reserve duty just to be immediately released because the last flight of the night left the airport at 5:45. They don't care about your quality of life what so ever. Do not quit a job to work for this company! Do not move to a base to work for this company. Do not think you will be off of reserve anytime soon if you get hired by this company. Unless you live in the NYC area you might have a shot of being off reserve within a year or so but who can afford to live in NYC wi a salary under 20K a year! If you want to be a real flight attendant, learn a foreign language (proficently) and make friends with a mainline flight attendant.

I applied for this company. I flew to MEM. Interview went well UNTIL....... I whent for my f2f. The senior mama interviewing me was very very very rude. After applying and going to many f2f to follow my dream I can say she was the worst.
As she was asking me questions, she bent down, grabbed her purse from under the table, opened it, rummaged around inside for a second ( mind you while I was still answering my question), pulled out her compact mirror and lipstick and started applying it right there. In a very Miranda Presely way closed the compact looked at me and said " Thanks we are done here".
I was Shocked, I then spoke to another member of the recruitment staff and expressed my shock for her complete lack of tact. I was told sorry nojthing we can do about it.
I understand they like to do things to throw you and see how you handle it, however this whent above and beyond rude.

For the record - Pinnacle did not CHOOSE those benefits. Delta decides what benefits they will give their regional contractors. Delta took away the buddy passes. Delta imposed the $50 per year fee. I was a Flight Attendant for Pinnacle for 3 years, and while I would NOT reccomend it, I do like people to know the facts.

Yes Delta does decide how we non rev on them.. But Pinnacle can be proactive and approach other airlines to set up a JS/CS agreement. I just think no one in management has enough experience to realize they can do this for us.

Pinnacle does not make these rules.
1. The insurance carrier that Pinnacle uses will not insure anyone with a DWI, etc in the last 3 years....
2. DUIs, DWIs, etc are seen as FELONIES in Canada. You cannot fly into Canada with these on your record (up to 10 years old!)unless you pay for and get a Canadian WAiver.

Wonder y all the other regionals have buddy passes but pinnacle doesn't!! I'm mainline and here is my take on it, buddy passes are a real pain in the butt! People will come out of the woodwork asking you for buddy passes! They put your job at risk, I've seen soooooo many people get in trouble giving buddy passes to "friends" who don't know how to act onboard! Think about yourself, don't make a decision on who to work for based on a benefit you give to friends !! No, I would never ever work for a company like pinnacle for the wages they offer, not my cup of tea, but I wouldn't base that on buddy passes!!! I was in training for pinnacle and left after the second week, but that's me, it is very very very underpaid and I found the company to be very unprofessional! Again, not my cup of tea, but I'm to old yo work for that little pay and full destinations...may be a good Place to start if u have little responsibilities and expectations! Good luck to all!!

I'll just say this. I'm a 5+ year flight attendant for Pinnacle Airlines. Many of us only fly for this airline for the flight benefits. I am now senior enough to have bid for and was able to hold a part-time position. I have been part time for some time now. I fly six days a month and get my flight benefits for myself, my partner, my parents, and potentially my future offspring.

I may not fly to great destinations for work but my partner and I can choose to go on our time. I maintain a more profitable career for me but love my flight benefits.

So it is what it is. I know there are people who work here for many different reasons. I can't say that this is for everyone but I must say Pinnacle has allowed me to travel extensively across this country and abroad. Say what you will about our flight benefits but I say for someone who isn't even 30 to have been to Europe several times, well over 200 some odd US cities, Hawaii many times, and who takes about 5-7 week long vacations a year in places like Barcelona, D.C., San Francisco, NYC, Miami, and Boston and doing it all on my terms (not within the confinds of my layovers) isn't bad.

I would like to touch base on pinnacle airlines. They are a awesome airline to work for and have alot of friends that work their that are very happy even though they are going through some difficulties with their financial climate. I also know that dal has given them some money to offset their bankrupcy and will be out that very soon..I am actually going to apply for the flight attendant position as well and have been trained on most or should I say every single a/c that they fly..My friend has been working their for over ten yrs and she was my ioe supervisor at another airline. I have recently applied for a flight attendant instructor position there, and I feel honored to say yes this is the airline that you want because this is the airline that is supported by mainline delta and they like pinnacle alot..hope this helps all of you and again, if you are customer service orientated and have a passion for your passengers as well as for the airline that you want to fly for then this is the place to be. I have always wanted to fly for some division of delta and right now mainline is not hiring so this is the next best thing..So who is comming with me for the ride..If it so happens that I am your instructor...well then lucky for you cause I will teach you every single aspect for the flight attendant position..I am very detailed and when you graduate you will be ready for any situation that may occour on board..I am excited to have you all with me and know it will be a journey but isn't that what the airline industry is these days!! hope to hear from each and every one of you and feel free to email me and I wold love to answer any questions that you may have regarding the flight attendant postion. I have been flying a very long time and willing to share with each and every one of you all my experiences..hope to hear from you all....jarehead1264@aol.com

Don't really recommend applying for a company that is under bankruptcy protection. In this economic climate, where companies fold everyday, it's really not a safe move... I would wait until they are out of bankruptcy, especially if you are already gainfully employed. Just the opinion of someone who has lost their job working for a bankrupt airline.

That seems to be pretty standard throughout the industry. A lot of airlines have taken away the buddy passes so it is pretty much you your spouse or family..So you might want to travel with your family or with other flight attendants..lol

right on! I too beleive that in this financial climate every airline is going through there time of financial difficulties. I know for a fact just cause a airline may go into bankrupcy protection it does not mean that they will fold. I have worked for mainline carriers and regional carriers and in this state of economy both are scheduling you for at least 4 flight a day and long hours. Reserve is what you make of it..If you are a hard worker and want to go with a nice airline like pinnacle I would recommend it. I have a friend that has worked in cooporate for almost ten years and she likes it and she started as a flight attendant in dtw. I will say it is all what you make of it. I worked for a far worst airline ( mesa) and I still did fine.

I dont beleive that you will be poor if you budget your money you should be fine like you said. I know I am ready to go and work for them, lots of regional people say the same exact thing. If you dont like it you can always try something else. Give it time and see how you like it and it takes a good 3 months to see if this job is actually for you..of course you will not have good layovers all the time.

There you have it my point exactly!! Layovers are just what is for layover till you have to get back on the plane and fly again..now vacations should be on your own time and utilize the benefits when you have time..Remember this is a job not a vacation cruise line ok...Thank you so much Delta connection fa..Like him you should all follw his footsteps and think like him and I we have been flying for a long time and we still made it I just have not worked for the same company just another one just like it..I am hoping to join him with the others in here that really wanto work for pinnacle..again, ladies and gentelman it is waht you want out of it...Amen!!!

We do so much less at mainline for wayyyyy better pay...but it is what it is...as long as there is a demand for employment, employers can keep offering low pay :(

that is right they can set their own price at this time, when there is a very high demand of employment. go and get your feet wet just to see what it is to become a flight attendant and then go mainline if this is what your dream are then go for it.....

Just for your information yes they go back a full ten years, but canada canceled the law that you could not fly if you had one less than ten years so maybe thatw has changed. I know I had to wait this out and I am clear now..pinnacle told me back in 2005 I would have to wait till it was 10 yrs to reapply but they wanted me big time cause of my experience. on the crj's I wanted it bad but hopefully this will be my right time now..I feel for you hope it has changed the worst thyey can say is no..rh
