Konasmamma in Lansdale, Pennsylvania said: Thanks - will do. I wish they would announce some more OH locations!! Maybe they are getting to the end of hiring.... It takes a few days for them to get back to you with an invite (usually about 6)after you turn in your application. Don't get down at this point you're only at the beginning of this game. Unless you're very lucky you're going to have to do a considerable amount of waiting to get a job in this industry. But while you wait try and educate yourself on the interview process and perfect your resume so you can be as prepared as possible and land the job once your chance does comes. |

Just last week at least 5 open houses were open. I looked at the site today and all of them are full and closed even the last one in St. Louis and that is the one that I am attending. I'm glad that I got my invitation to it last week when I requested or else I wouldn't have been able to get in. That's crazy. They have filled up within the past week. I'm so excited. I plan to do some site seeing in St. Louis while I'm there as well. Anyone going to the St. Louis one coming in a day early want to hook up? Let me know :) |

I just received my rejection email from the open house held on the 12th,I can't believe the expense it cost me for all the false hope this airline gave me.The problem seems to be because there are so many others given false hope as well. You sorta need to standout like God and be able to walk on water and I'm also thinkin I possibly did not look the way they felt I needed to look(I presently have braces).I will stay positive though and keep trying because I know I will be an excellant FA for some airline that doesn't judge so harshly. |

They said there that Republic classes were backed up until about April but if it's who you really want to fly with then it's worth the short wait! |

ok question say you work for shuttle for a year, then change to Republic, I know you have to go to school all over again but does your seniority start all over again as well? |

I believe your seniority goes with you. If you switch to Frontier, you start at the bottom of the chain. |

Hey, So, I attended the open house in Milwaukee on Monday. There was a total of SEVEN people there, crazy. Anyways, Tuesday, the next day. I got an email saying I passed and now they're looking into my background check and then I'd be placed in a pool for training. It's Thursday and I haven't heard anything back. Do you think these take awhile or no? |

Just wondering, but what is the process with these airlines. I know you have to attend an OH and the interview is the same day right? What happens after that? I know other airlines have a group interview then the medical and then a final offer. |

For all of you hopefulls on here ,you shouldn't waste all your hard earned money going to the open houses out of your area.Everything is worded as if you actually will land a position when in actually their may be one picked for every six open houses. There is a reason they don't help with any expence,You should only make the open house in your area every six months where you won't suffer such a large amount of out your own pocket expence. The ones that hold these don't have to put out a penny thats why they have so many,I'm just sayin |

Dear Kathy Please dont be too bitter about this incident. Ifeel sorry about what has happened and dare you, recruiters are actually checking this site too... Just remember that there are a lot of flight attendants who came from where you are now. I myself after my stint with CHQ had to go through this: Skywest: $150 a no after 1st rd
All in all, I spent: $1125++. yes, over a thousand dollars to go through several interviews. It is common for airlines to have you put yourself on the interview and spend at your own expense, its not about how much you spend, but rather how you carry yourself, and what you have learned from previous experiences (inflight, or real-world). Finally, let me ask you, and I'm sorry for being blunt.... If you are a recruiter, and you see this one lady, who says that shes going to be an excellent person at the position that that company is offering, just to be this bitter in real life, would you offer that position to her? P.S.
|
|
Kathy ( Peoria,Illinois) 28 months ago |
Honestly I am not in any way bitter I only wish the recruiters would be a little more up front with how they go about recruiting personal. They all want you to be totally honest with them which is never a problem but then they will leave you clueless and will not directly answer any of your important questions. They won't tell much of any thing pertaining to the actual job such as(is the position needed now or maybe in the distant future etc?).It is an employers dream to have so many qualified people out of work and I really don't expect many of them to care about the cost to the unemployed person because if this airline did they would be kind like some of the other airlines and at least fly you to an open house |

Hey Republic Forum candidates that have been to an Open House, do they tell you right there that you have it or do they tell you that you have to wait for an email or phone call? I have an Open House with them in Feb. and I was just wondering what they do these days in letting you know that you got the job? |

Kathy Any recruiting event or interviews is a gamble. If you play poker, you know how it is when you get a pair of Kings and you are super confident just to be trumped by triple 6's. It may not be at the flop that they would get to tell you that you made it or not, it may be the end of the hand or so.... I just had one of my fellow CJO finishers with DL not qualify for training because she had a DUI from 9 years ago that she didnt disclose, and because of that, it ruined her chances to get in, as it was an integrity crusher. Just dust yourself off, and try again. there are a lot of carriers out there that would be more than happy to get you under their wing, but just remember that you cant get anything without putting out. |

Kathy, After reading your post I am going to assume that you are rather new at the process of flight attendant recruiting. I am sorry that you feel you were not treated well. If you really want to be a flight attendant, then there are a few things you should understand about the process and the airline industry. 1. Airlines do NOT recruit and operate like the ordinary corporate business. They start recruiting applicants months in advance. It is not unusual for it to take a year before you are actually earning a pay check as a flight attendant. Even once you have been selected for training you may wait months for that training to begin. 2. It is not unusual to interview with several different airlines before being selected for training Or, interviewing with you favorite airline many times before being selected. 3. Airlines look for people that are totally flexible, willing to work any hours and move anywhere. Period. If you have a "complicated" lifestyle that will inhibit your career in anyway, maybe this is not the career choice for you. When I say complicated I mean "normal lifestyle". Like with children, pets, loved ones, family, property, school or other activities. Things that normally tie a person to one community. If you gave your recruiters the impression that your current lifestyle is more important than your dreams of being a flight attendant, that may be why they rejected you. When you go to an airline interview you are there to sell yourself and you may only get a few seconds to accomplish that. You are being watched constantly to see how you react under pressure because the pressure to get through training is very hard. Often the student failure rate is higher than most companies will admit. At my former employer it was 50%. Sad, but true, the number one reason the trainees would drop was their inabilty to conform to company operating procedures. Things like being on time, in uniform and with proper equipment. Continued.. |

Continued:
Kathy, if this is a career path you want to have in the future, I encourage you to continue to learn all you can. Interview as much as you can. Each interview you go to will help with the next one. Look for some help on the internet as there are several sites that can help you with the recruitment process. Several items will pop up if you type in "flight attendant recruitment." Being a flight attendant can be a very rewarding career, however it is not for everyone. Is is a very hard lifestyle, especially for a new flight attendant with low seniority. Just one thing I would like to add is to please be grateful that airlines send rejection letters. At least there is closure. So many companies don't send you any communication at all! Good Luck! :D |
