The carrier stated that it would furlough or displace up to 448 flight attendants and 242 pilots on Aug. 1. The airline plans to close its New York LaGuardia, San Juan and Detroit bases and reduces its Fort Lauderdale base, according to the news report. |

Any NEW news about what is going on at Spirit Airlines? Did all those furloughed F/A's transfer already? |
Hugs and Kisses in Mahomet, Illinois 46 months ago |
Since August 1, 2008 has passed, is it safe to say that no one will be furloughed or displaced for now??? |
D in Carolina, Puerto Rico 46 months ago |
they hired people in ACY but as soon as they graduate they had been furlough.. they reduce DTW base so the people from that base were transfer to FLL thats what they choose (because of seniority) the people been furlough in FLL has been transfer to SJU and ACY base.. those who cant afford moving to another place (like SJU and FLL) choose to be furlough.. there are a few people from SJU moving to ACY and several more from FLL moving as well... on august 1 was the first group on being furlough.. on sept 1 is the las group (including pilots and FA) how long they will do that?? no idea.. but yess people things are getting worst.. when do they start calling back those furlough people?? no idea we hope soon..

Rita in Lehighton, Pennsylvania 46 months ago |
Thank you so much for taking the time to explain what is going on. Does this mean that fA's will be trying mostly to commute from there old bases or that they all are going to move to ACY? How many people were in the last graduating class? And when was the class? |
Hugs and Kisses in Mahomet, Illinois 46 months ago |
Thank you for the information. It didn't know that the furloughs lasted up until September 1. |
D in Carolina, Puerto Rico 46 months ago |
well yup.. they will trying.. it is not easy specially for the FA's who were base in SJU.. is a 2 leg commute and honestly those SJU flight are always over book... so good luck to all.. |

Alan 6563 in Fort Lauderdale, Florida 46 months ago |
Yes, I am going to ACY - trying not to listen or give a sh$# about the drama - remember this is the Airline Industry and if u are not flexible (which is the first thing that they train you for) then you don't fly and I WANT TO FLY!!! |
Rita in Lehighton, Pennsylvania 46 months ago |
Alan, are you going to move to ACY? Rents are pretty high for F/A salary. Or are you going to commute and how does that work if there is a 2 hour call out time? |
Alan 6563 in Fort Lauderdale, Florida 46 months ago |
Not so high when there are 7 FAs sharing a 6br house that sleeps 10. We already have the deposit on it and it's within 21 mins of ACY airport....and since it's offseason as of 9/1 it's affordable. We are all paying 254.00/mo. Ofcourse you can't commute for a reserve schedule....been doing this for along time....I harken back to the good ole days at the original Pan Am for 11yrs as an Int'l line holder. In fact anyone thinking of trying to be a FA while commutuing is in for a hard time these days, what with high load factors and fewer flights. Best to go with the flow and be smart about your choices. It's all about being flexible and doing anything you can to fly!! Sorry - this doesn't discourage me or open a space for anyone - mines is mines!! LOL!! |
Rita in Lehighton, Pennsylvania 46 months ago |
I didn't get a call yet.... Just wondering if I do....if you guys would be interested in adding another FA to the house after training? Just trying to see what my options are? |
Alan 6563 in Fort Lauderdale, Florida 46 months ago |
Sorry - no room at the inn - we are full. 7 FAs in one house is more than enough. |
Rita in Lehighton, Pennsylvania 46 months ago |
That's OK. Thanks for responding. Hope to meet you one day soon! |

D in the world!!!! in Guaynabo, Puerto Rico 46 months ago |
jerseyshore.craigslist.org/roo/ Rita go to this website.. they are renting lots of apartment and as Allan says is getting off season and prices will be lower.. good luck to all.. and see you in the sky!!! :) |
Alan 6563 in Fort Lauderdale, Florida 46 months ago |
46 to ACY + the 15 recalls
Rita in Lehighton, Pennsylvania 46 months ago |
Alan, could you break down what that means. Does it mean 46 relocated to ACY from FLL and 15 that were furloughed were called back and relocated to ACY. 29 relocated from SJU to ACY....like that? What does that make the total for ACY? How many FA's were in FLL? And Thanks alot D!!!! |

Me in Dorado, Puerto Rico 43 months ago |
people.. is imposible spirit is hiring for ft lauderdale because they still have a LOT of Furloguh FA.. so because of the union they have to call those people back so then they start hiring again.. |
MikeMCO in Orlando, Florida 43 months ago |
I would be very cautious in considering Spirit. Things are in turmoil over there, and if you have a problem, it takes forever to get anyone to get back to you on it, trust me! |

Hope everyone comes back!! I know our company could treat us a bit better but at the end of the day we are all flight attendants and we looooove to fly, thats why we do it. BESOS FROM SJU!!!!!! |

FT.LAUDERDALE in Fort Lauderdale, Florida 42 months ago |
HEY SHAUN, DID THEY SAY IF THEY WERE GOING TO BE HIRING FOR 09? |
Shaun in Fort Lauderdale, Florida 42 months ago |
Nope, they will start hiring people if needed after all furloughed flight attendants have been called back. I didn't hear anything about any schedule for hiring new flight attendants. They have to, by contract, call all layed off flight attendants back before hiring new ones. But don't lose hope, we will be called back and you will be wearing those gold wings in no time. I don't see why you wont be wearing them in 09. And I'm looking forward to it. it will boost my seniority!!! lol I wish all of you luck, furloughed, active or anyone wanting to wear the wings. Don't give up. Its worth the wait, and really the greatest job ever! |
