WSusieW -- Well, YES -and- NO. It's kind of complicated : The Continental side of the company is the one that's hiring right now, and from what I've heard they (the subsidiary CONTINENTAL "s-CO") would be staffing any upcoming international flights from the recently opened sub bases (LAX, SFO, ORD, DEN for example) with flight attendants from other bases. For example, let's say the upcoming Shanghai (PVG) and Narita (NRT) flights that will be flying the 787 from LAX will be staffed with IAH (Houston) based flight attendants. They would work IAH-LAX, layover at hotel, then work LAX-PVG, layover, and return back to LAX, etc. The "Classic United" side (s-UA) , where I work, does fly many international flights out of SFO, but again, that's the s-UA side - we are not hiring, in fact we are furloughing flight attendants! It's the "Continental" side of the NEW UNITED AIRLINES that is hiring. For more info, check out the other United-themed threads here on Indeed.

Did you consider applying as a non-Language flight attendant? I am also a language speaker and I sure don't like getting the same trip, over and over again while I am on my RESERVE month (but that's s-UA). I am based in San Francisco since early 2000 - I had to move all the way from Miami, FL -- since I didn't want to commute. I have been living here in the S.F. Bay Area since then.

I think i will still go through the training to find out where i will be based. Going to pray very hard for sfo! If i do not get it, then i will have to give up :(

Thank you for the info, please keep us update. I like to know if there are any new hires that are already done with the training and are assigned sfo,. I know in april 2013 United will have direct flights from sfo to taipei, maybe they will consider assign some of chinese speakers to sfo base..

TO:San Francisco UA in Oakland, California,

Do you know the process of language speaker interview process? if they consider you, they will ask you to do language test on the same day? or do it later after notifying you the appying result? or it depends? I just done the 3rd interview but was told to wait for notice. there were only about 10 of people for this interview this time. Not sure if there's any opportunity for me. tks!

I went thru all three interviews, they asked me for a copy of my passport, then sent me to a room for language test. A few days later they called to offer me the position

Everyone who took the language test had to fill out a sheet and give a copy of their passport. But even if you did this it is not a guarantee. I've been waiting 3 weeks to hear anything from them either way.
