Danyel, a bunch of people in the my class right now are staying at the Holiday Inn Express right by headquarters. I think they are paying 85 total a night, and they're doubling up so 42.50 a person. Check with the manager there though, because since it's summer time rates are going up by the day. They chose that particular location because the rooms offers amenities like a micro, fridge, and breakfast every morning. oh and if you book any hotel for 30 straight nights you don't have to pay tax. Hope that helps. |

I’m looking into breaking back into the airline industry after leaving Continental 10 years ago to start a family. I’m the Mom of 3 little ones and as much as I would like, I’m not sure if being a new hire Flight Attendant would or could work out for me, but I would love to work on ground, perhaps as a Customer Service Agent or Gate Agent. Does anyone have any info on those positions with Virgin America? I am completely won over by the company and I would love to be a part of this team. If anyone has any info on ground jobs please post. I wish you all the best of luck on your flight attendant careers. Reading your post takes me back to the excitement of when I was hired as a Flight Attendant back in 1996. Good luck and have fun! It’s a great job! |

Hi everyone, I just applied to VA today. How often are they having classes? Once a month? Once every two months? |
|
Jessica in Avon, Indiana 48 months ago |
Also--if you were invited to an interview, how did you travel out there? Did you non-rev (if you are already in the industry) did you let VA fly you out standby? Or did you purchase a ticket? If you flew standby, did you encounter any problems i.e: oversold flights, delays, cancellations? Thanks! |

You can never over dress or be over prepared for an interview. Remember, if you got called for an interview, its because they like something about you!!! Suit and tie a must for men. For women, well groomed hair and no mini skirts or dresses. A suit would also be preferable for women. Be discreet and humble. NO VISIBLE TATTOOS!!! Keep the jewelry to a minimum. And the most important thing..... SMILE AND BE SOCIAL!!! Airlines look for flight attendants that are always happy and always willing to put their best foot forward. When a passenger leaves a flight, they won't remember the woman who checked them in at the counter, but they will remember their flight attendants. Smile when you talk. You'll sound even nicer. Also, if you use drugs... STOP!!! Because if you're given a conditional job offer, be prepared to pass a drug test that first day. |

I couldn't agree with Hahaha more. I would also add that you should wear a wrist watch and if you are a guy, make sure you shave. If you are doing group exercises, make sure that you contribute to the group but don't get so passionate about the activity that you argue with the group. The recruiters are looking for people that are willing to work as a team. Good luck and always smile! |

A suit is actually not a must! Virgin America prides itself on being a different kind of company. They like to push the limits a little. As you will read in your Interview Confirmation email(s), they say that the interview is business casual. From experience, I can tell you that noone on the interview panel will be dressed up in anything more than business casual. But it really comes down to what you feel most comfortable in. If you want to wear a suit, then wear a suit. Virgin America likes individuality - so just be YOURSELF. The interview is very relaxed and fun. Just have a good time with it! Just as a pointer - the male uniform here is a collared black button down shirt with the top button open (no tie), and the cuffs can be rolled up then a pair of dark charcoal gray pants. GOOD LUCK!!! =) |

I'm sorry but if you want to be Virgin enough, for the guys, I don't recommend you showing up in a suit and tie. This doesn't mean that you can't, but show up being business CASUAL (no jeans), smart casual or just who you are. For the ladies, mini skirts or dresses is fine, but make sure the rest of your outfit is business casual. There's a huge difference if you show up in a skirt and tank top with hooker heels compared with a mini skirt, nice pink sweater and boots or something. When a guest leaves their flight, they will remember those guest service team mates (GST) that checked them in if they left a lasting impression on them, but expecting the guest to remember their name is a different story. In Flights are no different then the GST's when it comes to the guest, both play an important role as the guest interact with both the in flights as well as those that help them with their baggage or seats at check in. Want the whole run down on what to wear? Start from the beginning of this thread, grab some popcorns and start reading. :) Cheers,

Good point Larry! But ladies ONLY wear a miniskirt if you can pull it off! (which is like, 2% of the population!!) I haven't gotten an invite to an interview yet. About how long after the assessment does it take? Thanks. |

About how long after the assessment does it take? Thanks. Jessica haha true, I guess the term "mini skirt" varies from person to person. Now when I mean mini skirt I actually think of something stylish not those micro mini skirts that barely cover anything =P (it's like.. why wear it =P just go to the beach and run round! haha) A skirt is fine, a mini skirt really depends on how short it is and .. like you said, if you can pull it off. But in all reality there's nothing wrong with being "tastefully sexy" in my own personal opinion, but even though Virgin America is all about having fun they are also a very professional company, after all... it is an airline =). Hope you enjoy the rest of your weekend Jessica! P.S. If you just recently did your assessment give it a week. Labrina in the People Department has trained for 10+ weeks to run a 26+ miles marathon in San Diego California in support of finding a cure for Leukemia & Lymphoma this Sunday on June 1st. So I'm not sure if that has any impact on how fast they process things but we are all supporting Labrina here at Virgin America! :) Larry |

Are there any crash pads in SFO that someone who is wiling to relocate can get? LEt me know as this will help. H |

Totally disagree.............Virgin is still a corporate culture and you can never be too overdressed. I've been around the Virgin airline brand since it's maiden flight in 1984. Only younger less sophisticated candidates will not wear shirt/tie. Every candidate I know that wore a shirt/tie or suit was hired. It's shows professionalism and a pride in your appearance. It also is an example of your personal standards. I've been in this industry for over 26 years and no matter which airline we are talking about, dress for success if you want to get hired.!!!!!!!! |

Joe in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania 48 months ago |
I agree with TravelGuru 100%. Although Virgin may be a trendy, modern airline, they still have a corporate image to show to their shareholders and supporters. I would suggest if you can, coordinate your clothes with the color scheme of Virgin (red and white). Perhaps for the gentleman you could try a black suit, white shirt and red tie (maybe even with white pin-stripes). I would imagine the ladies perhaps wearing a white skirt with a red dress shirt and a white over-jacket (but not like a pants suit jacket). Also make sure you wear a wrist watch and polish your shoes (ladies, do not wear open toed shoes). Hope this helps and I am sorry that I disagree with you, but I think that looking sharp and professional can go far. |

Well, we finished our first week of training and it has been awesome. Loving VX more each day. I want to set the record straight about the type of people VX hires, based on a past discussion on this forum. In our class, we have people of all shapes, sizes, looks, ages, and from many diverse cultural backgrounds. Nothing cookie cutter here. It is a wonderful company with so many great people. Great trainers and encouragement from everyone in the company. We truly feel like they want us to succeed. So, good luck to those still applying/interviewing and good luck to those that will be starting in the next class, June 9th, and good luck to us that are still in training!! Go VX!!! |

HIE309 in Warrington, Pennsylvania 48 months ago |
I really have to disagree with Joe and Travel Guru.... Unless you have been threw the interview process please dont give advice. When they say business causal they MEAN IT. To be honest the people at my interview who wore red looked tacky and the people in suits looked very out of place and ended up taking their ties and jackets off to fit in. A simple slack (or for ladies, pencil skirt) and button up shirt is perfect. Good luck to all!! |
|
Joe in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania 48 months ago |
HIE309, I am sorry if we disagree, but I cannot argue with you on the fact that I have not been to a Virgin interview and thus do not know how things go there. We all have our own opinions, which makes the world so great and I thank you for sharing your experience with us, so that we can learn from it. |

I've got a question - I was a furloughed Flight Attendant several years ago (voluntary due to family reasons) waiting to be recalled when my airline went under in April. For the last few years I went back to my old career as a RN.

I applied with Virgin in April and had an interview in May. I was notified the next day that I was not chosen. I will tell you that they appear to be a fantastic airline. The interview process was very intense, but fun and, I met some incredible people along the way. Be encouraged!! Apply, apply, apply! I'm a former FA, and haven't flown in years, but I'm looking to get back in, also. It's all I've ever wanted! But, I had to be grounded for a while. When the time is right, it will all come together!! (And, the right airline for you will be there!) |
|
Sei Sei Cole in Los Angeles, California 48 months ago |
I actually don't see anything on here about this, but for those of you who were not/ or may not be chosen by Virgin the first time around, apply for another position, maybe doing guest services at the airport. You don't have to wait 6 months to re-apply you can apply right away. Plus, with Virgin you can keep your Low seniority even if you transfer to another position. So if you don't get inflight, apply for something else and transfer in in 6 months or so. The process is probably easier once you become an employee. |

Are you being contacted by phone or email for an interview? If by phone, are they doing a pre-interview over the phone first? Or... do they just tell you they would like to have you interview, and then give you the date? Thanks! |

For the last few years I went back to my old career as a RN. I applied the 25th of May at the suggestion of a friend who was recently hired after she had been suggested to apply by someone she knew. All of us were hired by another airline in January and February but have been still waiting to be trained. My friend applied the week before me, was interviewed and put in the June 9th class. the other two girls are in training right now. I haven't even gotten an interview date and just figured that maybe they already have as many as they want to interview. So, here I wait. It sounds like for some people the timing is REALLY FAST (like my friend) and for some they catch it where it just takes a whole lot longer (like me). It has been great to read the posts though - and I recognize a few of you from another airline thread a month ago - congratulations on landing a job with VA - I'm sure you are going to love it! : ) |
