Listen here folks.... I was a FA for nearly 10 years. Now is NOT the time to start a career as a flight attendant. My Aunt has nearly 14 years as a flight attendant with American Airlines, and she still is not holding decent flights after all these years, and has no seniority. If you have a job paying over 20,000 per year, STAY IN IT. If your goal is to be a flight attendant, WAIT a minimal of 2 years, and then apply. The chance of you getting furloughed (laid off are nearly 99.9% in our economy. Again, if you can live on making $1300 per month in NYC with 4-5 roomates, and barely afford to pay for crash pad rent and little food, then apply. NO THANKS.... I'd rather work at Wall-mart and sleep in my own bed every night than be a slave for the airlines... In the end, we are just a number.

Actually jpetnyc does have a point. However are you suggesting that working at walmart is better than being a flight attendant? All I can do is laugh at that.

With that said I wish there was something that could be done about airlines sending FA's to the most expensive cities to live in ( New york, DC )and then paying them pennies. Any other job would adjust an employees salary to the cost of living in the local city. Even grocery stores and CVS pays according to that. Something needs to be done about it, but surely it wouldn't get solved today in this economy.

She mentioned Walmart because, simple, it's an everyday job where you know where you're going every day and what the work hours are - that at least you can plan your life around it.

Sounds like you and jpetnyc would be better suited to Wal-Mart anyway. All the best to you! :)

Just be warned. The "retail" job system can be as awful as anything you may be enduring now. I have worked more than .2 years at CVS and no matter how many hours I work I will be "Part time" and have minimal benefits (e.g. broke my arm at work and got Worker's compensation to restore me to health). Things will get worse with the downturn.
