yes!!! Every interview I go to they tell me, we will call you either way, They smile with you and you come out thinking you've got the job. You wait for a call...nothing. Then even when you call back they give some b**l s**t lame excuses...come on...the most cruel thing you can do to another human being is f**k with his hope...take that ability for hope away and i am not surprised about all the f****d up s**t that goes on in this world...employers need to be truthful and for once give some straight answers- isn't it what they're looking for in employees... and aren't this the same people who were in your shoes once... forgotten where you started?

Yes, here too. I always get the impression that I am one of the first to be interviewed. I got a call from an employer at 3pm one day and we wanted me to come for an interview that evening! I had my sister and her kids over, so I could not till the next day. Then after my interview he told me that he had others that day, and the next 3 days as well. What was the hurry in my dropping what I was doing and drive 30 minutes in evening rush hour traffic, when he had so many other yet to go? I am not really interested in this job anyway for reasons other than that, but so far I have not heard, but wonder what the outcome will be after next week? Seems like all of the employers are the same, don't they realize that WE have to drive to them and spend our gas and they must not have anything better to do than to talk to people. Or are they looking who will take the lowest offer? Nobody, well we have to put another posting till we get a 'bite.' Well guess what when the economy improves we will be the ones being picky and they will call us, and maybe more than once because they will be burning the current staff too much if they are short handed for too long, right now, that might not be a problem but later it will be a huge problem. Productivity for more than 2 quarters above 9% causes burnout for current staff and enough to make them walk out.

Employers do do that, but you gotta remember they may have other things going on that day just besides you. I would not give up hope, just be patient as hard as that is.

I worked at a very sucessful restaurant that closed. It closed because of personal reason of the owner's. New owners came in and when we (the former employees) stopped in to introduce ourselves and ask about a job, we were givin the cold shoulder a bit, but assured that we would be contacted. They advertised for employees on craigslist and we all applied and they said they would give everyone a "fair shake". None of the former employees so much as received a call, an interview or a reponse of any kind. The worst part about this is that we all are VERY VERY experienced and VERY VERY good at our jobs. We had ALL been at that establishment for a minimum of a year and a half, some longer. All of us had between 5 and 15 years experience, much of which was in the same town...so we had connections with the regulars and knew the workings of the town (events, etc). I think it's complete crap that they led us on for nearly a month that may bring us back when it seems that was never their intention. I kind of feel like they ruined our lives as we knew them. WE ran that place and the place made $$$ and so did we. WE did nothing at all that contributed to the place closing, yet we were punished. WE no longer have our jobs. We were not fired, we did not quit. I has been nearly three months and I am STILL not able to find a job that makes even 1/2 of what I was making. It may take a year or two to financially make me whole again.

Are You Serious in Denver, Colorado

I figure, treat people (including employers), better than they treat you, because there are alot of unfriendly, hostile folks out there! That way, they can't ever come back around and say, "This person was rude to me and didn't make any reasonable effort to follow up with or contact me." I've been told by people around me that maybe I should change how I approach employers. To me, many of these employers seem rude, ignorant and low-class. Especially to talk to people they don't even know like garbage and then they can't take 5-10 minutes, or even 1 minute of their time to be helpful to someone.

The other day I made a very standard call to company advertising itself online to inquire about what specific educational, or work experience/related job skills they were looking for in an applicant, for a specific job. The person I spoke to, became rude, and declined to answer a few questions for a labor market research assignment I was given by a newly assigned workforce center training specialist.

I however, am happy to report that in higher education related matters and seeking out general information about (WIA training provider approved/funded schools), representatives from colleges have been very helpful and didn't mind taking a few minutes of their time to answer brief questions.

I've never been rude to anyone while job searching

I agree, with all that has happened to the economy, and everyones industry it is bullsh*t.I mean how many interviews, applications, drug tests background checks and even credit reports does one person have to go through?People in Hr are the ones with the jobs.Do you think people during the great depression would've agreed with this s>>T.Here it is.. availability, work ethic, plus, work history=give us a job!!Wasted time ,gas money, child care, plus traffic, should at least warrant a courtesy call so were not hangin and can carry on to the next respectable employer.

Yes, I agree with all this. I had an interview with a local, chain restaurant on Monday. The interview went great and the guy said he would set up a second interview with the next manager. You have to complete 4 interviews. Well, that was 2 days ago and I have not heard back since. The guy said they would for sure call me. Talk about being on pins and needles. The last time this happened the managers lost my application and resume, so now I don't know whether to wait, move on or call them back. It is soo frustrating. I have over 10 years in the foodserving business also.

Regardless of what they say, never, ever stop applying. Following a great interview, go home and apply for 5 more jobs.

If you are looking for common courtesy while job hunting, you will be sorely disappointed. Forget the "expert advice", forget the Thank You cards, its all BS. Just keep applying.

This is happening to me. I am on the 20th HR call and all of them say we are putting your resume threw to the hiring manager and then no call. I have had four interviews where I get all the way till the end. I even had three jobs coming in at once and then I gave up two of them to get the one I wanted. I nogatated my pay but said I would be open to anything. The HR lady said she would call the manager I had a meeting with and no one ever got back to me. I gave up two offers for that job. I tried to go back to the other companys but it was to late and no one ever got back to me. I am now waiting back on another company right now. She said that there were interviewing other canidates and to give her about two weeks. She also said that the next step is to review my references and asked if she could. I said yes but now I am thinking that she was checking if I would say no. She did say to call her anytime I have a question about anything. Which was different and never happened before. I don't want to wait to see if this job plays out. I want to know if I didn't get it now. Its taking all my will power not to just call and ask her if she can tell me if I am really am being considered or not. Do you think I am being considered? Should I call her?

Whatever "the story" is:

1. Don't believe it a word of it.
2. Never wait more than 30 days for a response.
3. Never stop applying for other jobs while you are waiting.

You need to take the emotion out of this and treat the job hunt as a business.

If you want to call that's fine. If you want to bake them a cake and deliver it in person and find out the status, that is even better.

Just never forget the 3 rules.
