she comes on this site looking for brokers to hire her as an agent. says she has a client data base. then what she does is ship a load from under her company name and gets the carrier under your company. The shipper pays her and your stuck paying a carrier for a load you never had. I made the mistake and fell for her line of bull. I am sure all of the rest of you are a lot smarted then i am but just in case some unexperienced person like myself is on here.

How did you allow a shipment to move under her company name? Didn't you check credit or references? That is why you don't hire agents on until you have experience. |

Yep lots of crooks but maybe you can get out of paying the carrier as actually this isn't a load you arranged someone just used your number. I don't know but thats why I'm glad that Deb in KY warned me of not giving my packet to just anyone. there are those that will use you up. Also I saw a broker web site that took the packets off because people were using them. Lot of this going on |

They will also use different names when they call the shippers. Brokers will also backdoor agents and that isn't fun either. That has happened to me a lot. As the agent, you have to watch your shippers and keep in daily contact with them. |

I agree with the not being afraid just being informed helps with the risk. In any business there is a potintial for being scamed. So the more you know the easier it will be to avoid the scams. This forum is very helpful because people like suehask let others learn from their mistakes. I'm glad that she was able to put her mistake here for others to learn from. I wish more would stop acting like they were born freight brokering and never made a mistake and start letting others learn from their mistakes also. |

The only problem with putting up mistakes here is that scammers read the board and get ideas. It is DUE DILLIGENCE that counts in this business. If someone is afraid to start because they will get scammed, it is better they don't start than lose their shirt. |

That is a problem but its also a problem that this forum is where the new people are looking for information. Thiefs watch tv too and when they tell about a thief beaking into homes by way of a dog door (or something like that) it gives some thiefs a new way in but it also lets people that have dog doors know and take action to avoid it. Yes this warning gave the people that are thiefs another way to go but at the same time it helps new people to avoid this. |

We have started a network for new brokers or those considering brokering. If you need info on how to find shippers, how to talk with customers, where to find your rates, etc. Information is in my profile. |

Have really been considering getting into freight brokering but reading a lot of these posts makes me think it is a shady business. I'm sure there are plenty of good honest brokers and agents but i have definitely re-thought my path. |

Don't let the comments in here deter you in your desires. A long with the negativity are some real success stories. You don't hear so much about them because they don't have the time to come on here. They are moving freight. I feel that there is definitely enough to go around and instead of being so competetive with one another maybe we should network. |

We have started a group to help others network and learn about brokering / forwarding and the difference between the two. We want to help those starting out learn, grow and succeed. The link is in my profile, we have a few professionals who have also joined and I'm sure their wisdom will help you along the way. We meet most evenings online and in yahoo around 7 pm if you would like to join us. |

I am retired Navy and working as an Operations Manager in a small business Truck company, we handle all 48 traffic lanes. I also work as a temporary agent, but the son-in-law reaps all the bennies, I want to leave here but I want to make sure I will get paid what I am worth. Thats the only thing I am afraid of, because there are some brokers that scam on agents. If you can help me email me. Email is in the profile. |
