Here's a common question asked alot in this forum. What does one need to become a broker/agent? After that you will get bombarded with every school or training manual available to the novice looking to get in the business. There are brokers out there that will offer you a 70/30 split on commissions. What they don't tell you is that their new to the business and they have any customers. If you decide to pay to learn from one of these schools or buy a manual, what they don't tell you is you will not succeed if you don't have customers. Customers, customers, customers, does anyone see a pattern here. I'm not trying to be rude here people but if you follow the trail left by anyone telling you HOW YOU CAN BECOME A BROKER/AGENT. It will always come back to the root of all evil, the thing that makes this world go round,MONEY.And there is no money without CUSTOMERS
Lets put it this way,If I am a broker and you want to work for me,what are you bringing to the table,I have the authority, the bond, the insurance, what do you have? Now if you had customers, well thats a different story since I'm making a percentage of what you make,Now I would be glad to take you on,especially if I have no customers of my own,its a win win right? If you decide to go the other route and become a broker thats fine but on the carrier side,if you have freight why would I take a chance on moving a load for you, with your new mc# in the 7s its obvious to me you are not established enough for me to move your load,I can't afford to not get paid. So what do you do after you just spent all this money to learn the business from this 2 week study course that took your money and pumped you all up,you look for agents to find customers for you(who knows, they were probably in the same school you were in)and you collect a percentage of commission from there customer. What if they don't have any customers? Thats easy just tell them that they can work under your authority until they get some, its a win win right? Wrong
