Hi! My name is Jessica and I am very interested in frieght brokering. The more I am reading and learning, the more it sounds like advertising- formal business letters, sending out knick knacks with your name and logo on it, etc; is a must. Is this true? I don't have alot of money to spend on flyers etc. Has anybody had success with just cold calling shippers? Maybe get a couple clients and get some money coming in and then go for the major advertising? What if I start out as an agent for a well known brokerage... does this minimize the need for my own advertisements? I'm looking for any advice at all. Thanks in advance!!

I don't advertise and just cold call. I have been in the business since February and had some health issues when I missed about a month and I am doing fine. I grow my book of business every single month.

Thanks for your advice! What do you recommend using as a source to find trucks/shippers? I have heard of Manufactoring News, any other suggestions?

Thanks! What's the best method to find out the current market rate? Should I call several truckers and ask what rate they would accept?
