I have been reading through the forum and have a question for the veteran brokers. If cold calling is a thing of the past...how do you generate new business? I, like everyone else hates to do cold calls, but sometimes it seems necessary. Anyone else have any thoughts on this?
Btw..I have been in this business for 15yrs.

I called 50 companies yesterday and obtained a bid for a huge company. All you have to do is call and be yourself. I called 23 today and obtained another list of lanes. This company is not as big but hey at least I got the opportunity to bid his freight.

Cold calling is absolutley a great way to generate business. If you are expecting to walk through a door and have them just give you business then you will be disapointed. Cold calling is a great way to start and learn about the company you are trying to sell. I have walked through doors at the right moment as the traffic guy was ready to throw out his current provider. Yes this is called luck, but had I not been doing it I would never have been there to get lucky. One year I sent my son out to areas to collect business cards. He would go through the door and I scripted him on what to say to the receptionist. They were all so helpful in giving him all the info he wanted. From there I would start the phone calls and set appointments. Anyway there is my 2 cents. www.goafs.net
