jdsason in Newton, Kansas said: If what you are looking for is a quick way to make money, please feel free to look elsewhere. Freight Brokering is not a get rich quick scheme in anybody’s imagination. But, if you are willing to invest some time and energy in being trained as an agent first than please click on my profile and see what we have to offer. We do not charge for training as long as you are working for us. We do not promise that you will become a Freight Broker afterwards but we do promise to give you as much help as we can to learn the basics. If you can talk on the phone and have half a brain, you can be very well off in a matter of a few months. In less than 2 years, we build a business and sold it. There is plenty of business but you have to take the time to make calls and have a web presence. |

I just completed an online class to have my authority as freight broker. I'm still clueless. At this time, I can not afford to pay for the freight broker license, MC number and the surety bond. I decided to become an agent, hoping to learn more about the freight broker business. Could someone share on how to go through a company and receive the proper training on how to become a new agent? I greatly appreciate it. |

I am also trying to become an agent I've done the research and purchased a manuel but I can not find a broker that will hire without experience. I have found a couple of companies that want you to pay them $1200 to train. That's a lot of money for me to come up with. Have you had any luck? |

R.A.T.I. in Racine, Wisconsin said: If you are a agent or want to broker freight from your house with another company, you need not pay anything. I do agree with chris, you must be determined, hard working and want to build something bigger than just a job! However the company your working with should guide you every step of the way...answer any and all questions, and always be there for you. You are suppose to feel that you have 110% support from that company, and the company is suppose to feel that you are gving 110% to yours and the company's success. They want you to succeed and should do everything in their power to ensure that happens...WITHOUT CHARGING YOU ANY MONEY. And I think 50/50 splits are more common than you (agent) getting 40%, if I read that correctly. I like it when its 60% to the agent/ broker. After all, when you make money, the company makes money. And when everyone makes money, everyones happy. This oppurtunity is not for everyone. Just like driving isnt for everyone. But if you are serious and stick to it, it can be amazing. I agree with you and Chris , I have been flattening my forehead from banging walls since Christmas I haven't made anythig yet But I am not giving up either .

Wow, reading some of these comments it looks as if there are some here to help and some here out of malicious boredom. I have been an O/O with my own authority for 7 years. Prior to that I was in sales and recruiting for 10+ years. I have some guys wanting to sign on under my operating authority, I have a bookkeeper with 30yrs in the trucking biz ready to do the puc's, miles, invoicing, payroll, etc. on a part-time basis (she owns her own tax/bookkeeping biz) and my insurance agent is onboard with coverage and is able to funnel drivers that aren't happy where they're at or going under to me to sign. However, first things first.... Freight. I need to get freight leads/brokers to get these guys moving and don't want to do the "loadboard shuffle". In my opinion, we can all maximize profits by getting loads before they hit a board. I as well would like to become an agent or broker to get freight moving locally. Any help or suggestions out there? |

Okay. I have read the comments about not having to pay for training. IF you have the drive, experience, and business savvy to proceed, then you will be able to move forward. On the other hand, if you have no experience or if you are not familiar with the laws in the transportation industry, you will have to be trained. Think of the training programs as an education. You have to pay to take vocational training, and that is exactly what this is--a vocational training. I wanted to learn how to be a medical transcriber. No one would hire me with no training or experience. I paid $300 and attended classes to learn how to do it. At that point people started talking to me. Very few companies are going to hire people with no experience at all. If you call around to brokerages, they are going to ask you about your book of business. They will practically hang up on you if you tell them not only do you not have a book of business, but no experience either. Not many companies are training for free unless they feel like you really have the potential, and you better be able to sell yourselves to them as an asset to them. Some companies that do provide the training will charge you for the training, but then deduct from each paycheck until it is paid off. Training is an investment, whether it be on the part of the individual or the company doing the hiring. Your skills will determine the level of success that you achieve. |

Yes you need training but ( Iknow it's been posted before) check out the training company before you purchase anything there are good ones and ones you will pay for to get information for free off the internet. |

Bob----that is very true. Everything in life has good and bad, and the bad ones sure give the good ones a bad name. Everyone should be very careful, ESPECIALLY if they are promising you the financial moon! |

Here is the thing, Kyle. Most of us who do have the answers try to answer questions when we can, however, at the end of the work day, after dealing with brokers, drivers, other agents, or students we have answered so many questions that we are just tired. Plain and simple. We look at this in the evenings in our spare time. Sorry if you felt like you were not getting adequate attention. Now pull your big boy pants up and move some freight! |

I been looking into being a trucking agent, but I been hearing that a lot of Trucking Brokers don`t really like to hire agents with know experience. Therefore, how would you be a Trucking Agent in Trucking that`s is 800 Billion Dollars industry under a Trucking Broker if they are not to crazy in hiring new Trucking Agents. However, somebody out there please tell me who would hire a trucking agent without any experience. They say being a trucking Agent is the best kept work at home business in the United States alone. |

It is true that most brokerages require experienced agents with a book of business. There are training programs that will gaurantee placement if you go through their program, which is a good start to get your foot in the door. You will build your book of business as well as gain experience that will help you move up and on to one of the bigger brokerages. You don't have to be a broker agent to get in on the $800 billion industry. You could work as an Independent Dispatcher working directly for the owner operator to keep his truck loaded. They will be a little more tolerant of no experience as along as they are confident that you know what you are doing. If you do not have any experience in the industry, you will need to go through a training program of some sort. As for it being the best kept work at home business----yes, it is! |

I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW WHAT BROKERS HIGHERS FIRST TIME AGENTS, I BEEN HEARING THAT A LOT OF BROKERS DON`T LIKE TAKING ON NEW AGENTS.SO I BELIEVE IT DOES NOT MAKE ANYSENSE TO PAY HUNDERDS OF DOLLARS TO BE A AGENT, IF YOU CANT NOT FIND A TRUCKING AGENT JOB.THEREFORE,BEING A TRUCKING AGENT SOUNDS GOOD WORKING AT HOME, BUT I AM SEEING A LOT OF CLOSE DOORS FOR THE VENTURE. |

I am speaking to you from experience here. I new nothing. I went through a program that offered placement opportunities. I was placed, and now I work with another brokerage as well as dispatch for owner operators. The bigger brokerages probably are not going to be interested if you do not have an existing book of business. You will have to start out with the smaller broker firms, and work your way up to the larger ones. Having proper training will make you marketable to the smaller brokerages. They will work with you if they know that you understand how to hire qualified carriers to protect their liability. You have to market your skills that you learned during your training, just as you would market yourself for any job that you apply for once you have finished an educational/training program. THE KEY IS TO DO YOUR HOMEWORK AND SEE IF THE PROGRAMS OFFER PLACEMENT OPPORTUNITIES or CONTINUOUS SUPPORT!!!! Just going through a program and getting a certificate at the end on your way out the door will not work. |

I have been reading and researching this forum and internet for a while now. I have been in the LTL industry for almost 10 years mainly in operations and compliance. I really want to start as an agent as soon as I can. I have seen some Landstar agancies that train new agents. How is Landstar overall? Does anyone who posts here work for them or one of the aganecies? Any information or anytone who knows of a trainng program/oppotunity for new/inexperienced agents please email me darkon1970@hotmail.com |
