Arkansas Broker in Rogers, Arkansas

I have been in the industry for 5 years, and have a solid customer/carrier portfolio. I have an office with 4 employees, and I am looking to sign on with a solid company. We specialize in reefer and dry loads. A lot of produce, chicken, rice, etc. We produce monthly:
Between 41 - 120 loads per month
Between $12,000 - $32,000 profit per month
Between 15% - 25% profit percentage

I have been with a company for the last 4 months, and I have just terminated my contract due to the following reasons:
They are taking over 45 days to pay carriers
Other agents are soliciting my customers
I have been short paid numerous times

So, currently we are not signed with a company, and I am weighing my options as to sign with another brokerage or get my own authority and license. However, I know that getting a new MC# will greatly effect my chances of getting new customers and carriers.

So, if you are looking for an established broker, that is ready to start ASAP, let me know!

Getting your own authority? Good for you!! Here's a crazy thought...instead of taking on the TREMENDOUS headache of floating that huge amount of gross every month on your own, how about giving us a call first. We could probably pay you more in commissions than you could make after all your overhead is considered; and heaven help you if you have to turn to factoring...that gets crazy expensive. Seriously, contact me and I would be more than happy to discuss this further. If you don't like what you hear, you move on with your own authority.

Thanks,

Phil

Why do you want your Authority? Give us a call to discuss the pros and cons. You might find that our incentive package is better than dealng with the back office work.

I am an agent for a brokerage company now, but needing to find a new company to work with as my company now is looking like they may go out of business soon. I have a few good customers that will follow me, and I have been investigating brokerage companies. I have narrowed it down to three companies that are ready to sign me on, and was wondering which would be better to go with. A Transportation Co. which has 400 trucks leased to them, and pay ME 8% of the revenue if you use one of their leased trucks (which is not a good commission for me at all), or THEY take 10% of the revenue if you broker a truck (which is much better for me). Also looking into two larger brokerage companies such as Dynasty Transportation, or Trinity Transport. Do you have any suggestions? I really need some help in making this decision. Thank you for your time!

Go for the trucking company as even though you may make only 8% on a co truck, you have more stability. Good job for doing your homework.

Lynn,

I would go for a brokerage company. We have just added 2 new agents that worked for a large asset based company (brokering and asset management). The problem you run into with an asset based company is that they bought a lot of trucks and hired a lot of people when the economy was booming. They are currently downsizing or going out of business. Which ever you choose, make sure that they are financially stable.

Get your own authority and keep all the money! It isn't that hard. If your customers pay in a decent time frame and you in turn give good rates you shouldn't have that much difficulty in finding carriers. You'll have more control going in business for yourself. If you do decide to sign on with another brokerage, make sure your area is not staturated with agents competing internally with you. When trucks get tight in the future, the big houses that traditionally push cheap freight will have an increasingly difficult time finding trucks unless they really come off the money. Larger brokerages mean larger overhead as well. Smaller outfits can be more competitive and also give more to the truck.
