I disagree completely with that attitiude. A new broker will have to hurdle the carrier mentatlity held below by offering to quick pay or 50/50 most loads at the start as almost no carriers will do business with a start up. However you should be well funded |

I am 3 months into my brokerage and after 100s of phone calls to carriers, I have had one carriers tell me that they will not work with start-ups. I have had several tell me that I would be on a watch list, one other ask me to pay upfront prior to shipping which I did.I pay in 20 days and everyone seems to be happy. |

You are doing the BEST thing, paying fast! Also the other thing you should do is ask the carriers that you have piad to submit a report on truckstop.com. You can then print it off and include this in your set up package. the first year is the toughest, until you get set up with all the factoring companies taht doen;t want to do anything until a year goes by. How I overcame the factoring companies was to get carriers to do an "override" and then I pay the factoring co SUPER fast!! |

I talked to Mr. Lamb. He pointed me to their Dispute Resolution page as a way the industry can regulate itself instead of asking for government to regulate us more: Their sliding scale seems to be the right way to go: Small Brokers: Category Annual Revenue
Category B Property Broker $500,001 - $1,000,000
Category C Property Broker $1,000,001 - $2,000,000
Category D Property Broker $2,000,001 - $7,000,000
Large Brokers: Category Annual Revenue
Category F Property Broker Over $25,000,000

Sliding scale wont work. A little research will show you that the large brokers arent the problem that needs to be addressed! |
|
Tony Dee in Miami, Florida 3 months ago |
So, in other words, small brokers are the problem? I though fraud was the problem. |
|
Tony Dee in Miami, Florida 3 months ago |
lol. So much for the big brokers not being the problem. Yea, I'm thinking this bond is to put me out. I'm signing the petition. |

What happened to Mr. Lamb's comments about Enron? Why did they get deleted? |

I'm looking to work under a broker to start and learn the business for a year or two. Does anyone know of some larger brokers that are willing to train and hire someone with no experience?? Every one of us started where I'm at at now and at some point someone gave you that chance. This is all I ask and I'll do the rest. Pay it forward and I'll pay it back, Please contact me at amsic@gmail.com. |

Hi, My husband is a truck driver. I'm currently unemployed. I'm very interested in becoming a agent/broker. I have no experience at all. I'm a fast leaner and a good listener. If there is someone needing help or an assistant, willing to take me under their wings and show me the ropes of freight brokering, i have a very flexable schedule. Thanks mel in Memphis TN area. |

My family's owned a truck brokerage for over 50 years. It's small and everybody works hard. My Dad's been the president for 30 years and has never taken a sick day. He takes two weeks vacation a year. If you want to be successful, prepare to work hard! |

I have been working in the healthcare industry for the past 10 years but I am really interested in a career change to the transportation/logistics industry. I am currently enrolled in an online freight broker/agent course. Jacob w/Logistic Dynamics in Buffalo, New York said: I agree somewhat with every one here. I hire and recruit freight broker/agents and currently out of 11 broker agents we have 2 making 20-30 thousand each month 7 doing 4-8 thousand a month and 2 doing 500-2 thousand the difference between them is - DRIVE - ABILITY TO TALK TO SHIPPERS - CONTACTS IN THE INDUSTRY - TAKING ONLY GOOD FREIGHT - too many brokers should change their name to jokers because the spend most of their time covering bad loads ex- low margin, too many pics or drops, high claim customers, and so forth. Find a niche in the industry become an expert in a feild of generalist and you will have a deep customer book not dependant on any one customer. 50k + if a decent broker 100k+ if a great broker Are you hiring brokers right now? If so, do they work from home or required to work in an office? I have 7 yrs in exp. in Transportation, and have worked for a broker as well. Im looking to work from home if your hiring |

That is sooooo totally wrong. You need to have money in the bank to pay your trucks. If you don't get paid by your shipper for 45 days you still have to pay your trucks at 30. You need to have to have at least 250K in the bank to be able to pay everyone until you get paid. If you are under capitalized you put yourself and your trucks that haul for you in danger of not getting paid. This is one freaking hard business. You don't just sit down and make a phone call and have freight and make money. Read up on it. You CANNOT start if you know nothing about it, that is the most irresponsible thing I have ever heard. |

GREED IS A SIN BE HELPFUL AND YOU WILL BE BLESSED. SORRY THAT I HAD TO GO THERE BUT SOME OF YOU ALL ARE FULL OF MESS AND THAT'S NOT PROFESSIONAL IN ANY WAY AT ALL.
