If someone asks you for your MC# thats a legitimate request. If you don't want to give it out, thats your right. Its public information, and anyone that wants it can get it anyway. Anyone out there looking to go to work for someone, needs to check that company out thouroughly. Lots of unstable rif raf in this business and you need to CYA. |
|
jon in Keller, Texas 24 months ago |
yes and that is why I asked for it to pull a CPF and safer to check them out.

Lots of unstable rif raf in this business and you need to CYA. I did not know that. I would totally give someone my MC # if there was a legitimate interested person. I'd rather not be harassed and bothered by guys like Jon in TX... I've had my home broken in 2 times since I have lived here for 3 years. So I have legitimate reasons for not throwing all of my information out there!! and yes, I agree people need to research a company in and out. |

fine... 622963 go be nosey now..... THIS is why I don't post it... Because you guys have NOTHING to do with potential business with me. All you are going to do is look up my crap... So what's your MC # now Jon?? |

I'm not putting myself out as someone that can do something like you are so no need to give you that. I'm not being subjected to background investigation nor offering to pay anyone. I'll check you out and comment good or bad |

My rating for a carrier is an 83.... which is excellent for only being in business since basically last spring. |

That is playing dirty Jon. I tell everyone all the time how cut throat this business is and not for the weak at heart. You just proved my point. Seems to me, all the people professing to be so busy could not possibly have time to live on this forum, I know for one my office rocks and rolls from early morning to late evening. Every now and then I actually read a forum notice that come to me, and sometimes I just chuckle and delete it. Every now and then, I just can't help myself and respond. Breaks up the day, and try to help innocent people with questions to keep from making huge mistakes..Usually people who are trying to be ugly on here have skeletons in their own closet. |
|
jon in Keller, Texas 24 months ago |
your are a living contridiction. You ask how I/we can answer and have time during our day because we must NOT be busy and CLAIM you are busy but are all over this board. No skeletons but I'm searching for yours with the MC# you provided. IF (and there might not be) there is any dirt I'll find it and publish it. If it is good I'll pub lish that too. Go back to work since you are so busy but yet have time for this. crazy! |

I try to help anyone I can. I have talked to lots of people on here. Met some awesome ones and some not so great ones. I just wish people would work together more, thats all...like it or not, we are all in this together. I tried to put my Duns number, but it won"t let me.. It thinks it s phone number. |

Oh, one more thing...After all this, I forgot to post why I decided to get on here today anyway...Does anyone have any experience with LoadMatch.com??? I belong to all the others..and I am looking for other avenues to reach more trucks. I already use ITS, Get loaded and DAT. I know this one has not been in business but about 5 years..just checking if anyone had used them and what their opinion might be.
|
|
jon in Keller, Texas 24 months ago |
its and dat are great but for some of the little carriers that can't afford those boards they look to alot of the "free boards" there is a sit called posteverywhere.com that consolidates all the "free" sites for trucks into one managable place for brokers to post to. It's 19.95 a month (first month free) and I've had good respondses. try it and see for free |
|
ltesterman@pioneertransfer.com in Sioux City, Iowa 24 months ago |
OH, thats alot cheaper than 79.99..and you know how expensive the others are. I will check it out. Thanks. |
|
jon in Keller, Texas 24 months ago |
I use all 3 dat,its and posteverywhere and still sometime struggle for coverage. as you know capacity right now is tight. |

YEP. Trucks are hard to come by these days...with the surplus of freight, it can be tough. There are less trucks on the road now than a year ago. Instead of having 3 people on the phone all day calling all our carriers finding out if they have trucks in all the areas I need them, I thought trying a new board might be a good idea. Doing ok, but my freight lists are much longer than my booked freight. I imagine alot of brokers/agents are having the same problem these days. |

I feel sorry for anyone interested in breaking into this industry taking advice from this board. They won't know accurate information from bogus like a true professional broker would know just by reading post. |
|
jon in Keller, Texas 24 months ago |
yes that is the current situation in all our offices. I just counted up 14 loads I have posted and have had most of the day. Covered 5 today so far and searching for 14 more and that is why i have time to be on this board. Waiting for calls that probably will not come. exhausted my call list for carriers in those areas. I hate seeing money sitting there! |
|

I have just completed an on-line freight brokerage training. I am in the process of looking for an agent job, however all of the jobs that I have found are looking for agents with 2 or more years of experience. Any suggestion? |

Hi this Ree Ree from Stockton, Ca. First look for a freight brokerage training school that will allow you to work as an agent after graduation. You can search the internet for schools in your area, however some schools allow you to train via internet. The most important factor is that you get an opportunity to receive experience as an agent then you can work your way into a broker.

I have the authority, and you do the dispatch work with your customer, I handle the monies and all that stuff.... etc.. THAT is how it should be! I got a guy who was laid off last year, and now works for me, making $25k a year MORE and he works from him house and basically does less for work than he used to.. $85k enough for you guys a year? I am new to the industry and am looking for a decent broker to be under. Do you take on newbs or know anyone who will? |

I too am new and I am noticing that no one wants to work with a newbie. I am ready to start calling on people (and I know that I have at least one company that will work with me), but my issue is how do I call when I don't have a broker to work under? I am absolutely positive that I can't call and say "Hey I'm new - trust your load with me...". I completed an online training course and they will set me up with someone for a fee - I don't really want to pay them anymore money. How do I convince a broker that I am ready to go (already have one customer) and ready to make both of us some money? |

I like the idea behind this, but there are way too many typos/misspellings for me to trust it. I also don't want to have to pay to work for someone. Splitting commissions I can understand, but asking me to pay so that I can work -I don't think so. Not unless I am getting something tangible out of it. |

Lucky first off, I would advise you set up an account on this forum with your contact information (email) Far as convincing a Broker who brings on newbies to give you a shot. You have already convinced many. Most important, when you are being interviewed on the phone. You should be interviewing them also. Don't just go with any company. Your school should have taught you how to go about this. |

i have an op to get off unemployment & get involved with a company that is hiring both freight agents and admin assistants. they are using the GA works initiative in which govt pays the peeps extra $$ + unemployment & company pays NOTHING while in training. GOVT also pays workers comp while in training. This goes on for 6 wks part time at which time the person either has new training to put on resume OR has a full time job or their own independent sales job but they are off unemployment. on their site they advertise a independant sales & marketing rep but the job is listed at dept of labor as Freight agent. I have a feeling that the word "independent" is key here .. meaning we will not make a DIME for our work unless selling and no benefits because we'd be "independent" ... and no way to get back on unemployment because we took an "independent" sales job... I asked if these were commission only postions & question was answered with the word "incentives" .... My guess is it is commission only like american family life insurance sales agents and is rather more like "starting your own business" which no one in their right mind would QUIT a job [or get off regular unemployment] to do. It's 5 star freight services in conyers ... anyone know anything about it ??? |

Ok this is going to sound like a sob story but its very true. I have 15 years experience in the transportation industry as a driver and as part of management and dispatch. I lost my job back in March of 2008 due to my company downsizing and closing the location I worked at. I have since lost my home and had to move in with my wifes parents due to my wifes job not paying enough. I have also had serious medical issues and have a 3yo daughter with dwarfism and racked up heavy medical debt. I have put out 100's of resumes and had very few responders. The few interviews I have had, have been recently and they are all so worried about me not working in the last two years that they don't want to hire me. I am now even beginning to see job postings asking for unemployed workers not to apply. Thats my current situation.

jacob_w-logisticdynamics in Buffalo, New York said: I can tell you that the 1 or 5 day seminars are typically not viewed as exp or training by most brokerages (ours being one of them). If you look on a lot of postings looking for freight broker agents they will say right on them that the training is not accepted as exp (network FOB being one that sticks out in my mind). where those course come in handy is if someone is going to open their own brokerage (get their bond, auth., incorp'ed, have the capital to pay carriers, T.M.S...) and they are going to do the good old American start and build it and overcome every obstacle then they can get a good base knowledge from one of those courses. You are still better off to work for a brokerage before opening one but it can be done. People like to think that a brokerage can bring on agents and it doesnt cost them anything so why not give anyone a shot. Well in some cases that may be true if that brokerage doesnt offer much or any support. In our case we tried out bring on newbies and it was very expensive. the cost of initial setup and training on the software, all the added agent support hours and staff, opportunity cost of not getting as many established guys, turn over... so most (not all) established brokerages will either only work with established people or charge a fee to kind of lock you in a bit. So short answer to your question is no we no longer bring on newbies, sorry if that was a long road to an answer. CR England does they bring on anyone that passes there test and passes a background check unless you live in Utah then you have to be a employee. Which sucks because I live in Utah LOL I would do anything to be agent for them. |
