Calling All Apprenticeships!!!!! in Covington, Georgia said: Have 1500 clock hrs! Or Have worked as Apprentice!!!!!!!!!!! or Looking to reenter the hair business and need to retest or take refresher courses to help you pass your state board exam!!!! Well you've come to right place!!! I offer Milady based courses that will help you not only PASS but you will feel confident in PASSING. I will prepare you for either your written and practical or both. If your serious and ready to restart your career in cosmetology email me at laquitta@aandmccellc.com I've been in the business for over 10 years. I hold a Master Stylist and Cosmetology Instructor license. If you want to pass, I have your ticket. This may seem odd to you. However, I had obtained my cosmetology license in NY in 1980 and have since let it lapse. I am looking to work in NJ part time, as my career took another path, and need to get back into Hair. Please let me know what it is that I need to do. Do I need to retake the written and practical? How would I obtain my NY license info from that time. The school I attended was the Wilfred Beauty Academy in Staten Island, NY. Any help or info you can provide would be great... |

e-rock in Easton, Pennsylvania said: Just called Capri, the refresher course totals just over $2500 and includes the kit and 250 hours. Its a little steep but seems like all the schools are similar. They all seem to average $10 per credit hour. I think I will just study up on my own and wing it! whats the worst that can happen?? I fail and then I will take it again and know what to expect. I'll save a fortune that way. Oh and BEWARE... I believe all states have a maximum amount of time in which you can take your board exams after graduation, if you exceed that time frame you must start over from the beginning. New Jersey is 5 years and PA is 7 years. I got word from NJ state board that I have to take the brush up course, and send the documents to them, now , if they are including the exam or not I don't know. They just sent a brief email saying I need to take the brush up course 250 hours and send documentation to them. They didn't say anything about retaking the exam although I am not discounting it either. I believe I will have to retake the SB exam as well.

You may want to double check your info because I just called the PA cosmetology board and they said unlike NJ who has a time deadline on when you can get your license after graduating cosmetology school, PA does NOT have ANY time limit. You can graduate cosmetology school when you're 18 and take the exams when your 60! But good luck remembering anything! |

I am a current Cosmetology student in Texas. Once I have finished school my Fiancee has to relocate to Colorado for his job. My question is on how I transfer my license from Texas who requires 1500 hours to Colorado who requires 1800 hours? And as a side question, does anyone have any experience or tips on trying to find a stylist position out side of your current state? |
|
laquitta in Covington, Georgia 6 months ago |
Hello because texas requires you to have 1500 and the other state 1800 you would have to return back to school. So really you don't have to finish in texas. You can go on and relocate. With the hrs you have. . Because you would have to return to school to get the remaining hrs. |
|
pinkfusion in California 6 months ago |
the above is incorrect. PLEASE contact the CO board and ask |
|
laquitta in Covington, Georgia 6 months ago |
Well just as an FYI, the information that was provided was NOT INCORRECT. As an Director of a Cosmetology School as well as an instructor, I would not be misleading anyone regarding their career. Its one thing giving someone information based on facts, its another thing telling someone that their incorrect when you dont know yourself. So just know that any time the state that your going to requires more hours that the state that your in you have to make up the difference by attending school. So by all means contact Co. They wil tell you the same thing. Good luck!!!! |
|
laquitta in Covington, Georgia 6 months ago |
Oh by the way, I obtain my license in texas and moved to Ga. But because Ga and Tx have the same requirements regarding Hrs, the only thing I had to do was pay a fee and transfer. |
|
pinkfusion in California 6 months ago |
Did you even look at the website for Colorado? I'm amazed that people will insist that they are right when they have no idea what the regs are for that state. I actually went and looked and they will accept a license as valid that was obtained in another state. I could see that it said that in their regs, but I STILL told her to verify the information with the Colorado state board. Quit acting like you are an authority on something that you obviously know nothing about. Thanks |

pinkfusion in California 6 months ago |
Heres the reg 'laquitta' so you can read it for yourself... or not. The following shall constitute substantially equivalent licensure and qualifications for applicants for licensure by endorsement within the meaning of § 12-8-118(1)(a) of the Barbers and Cosmetologists Practice Act (“the Act”): *****proof of graduation from a barber or beauty school approved by the appropriate governmental agency responsible for approving such schools in that state or country, and proof of passage of a written and practical examination administered by the appropriate licensing agency for that state or country. ****** |

Hello! I got my degree in Buenos Aires, Argentina. When I finished my course, they gave me a diploma. But I understand that you have to have a licence to practice here in the US. I don't have one, so my question is: can I have a refresher course even though I didn't study in this country in order to have a licence? I live in upstate New York.

I am a single mother and I have completed all of my Cosmetology training in the state of Washington but have yet to take my exams. Truth it has been 6 years since I have finished beauty school. I have contacted state board and they say that all I need to do is get a referral from my school in order to take the test. My question is, is there ANY video, packet, website etc. that would help me with STEP BY STEP instruction for my PRACTICAL exam. I have all I need for the written but the steps for the practical may be a little rusty. Does anyone know of any site that would give me such information for the WA State Cosmetology Practical Exam? |

michelek in Austell, Georgia said: I responded to the wrong post so here I go again: I would imagine that at the very least you'd have to be a licensed instructor if you're going to call your business a school. The best place to check would be the GA State Board of Cosmetology. They have specific rules and regs if you are operating as a school. Lots of red tape and paper work will surely be involved. If you still want to proceed, you'll need to obtain a business license in the county of your location. Fulton, Dekalb etc. Next you need to decide whether you want to incorporate, form an LLC, or just act as a single proprietorship. Understand that if you are going to charge someone for these services, they are going to want to know that you are licensed to do this. (Hence, the instructors license). I could be wrong but I know that if I was going to take a refresher course in any discipline, I'd want someone who was qualified, on paper, to teach these classes. It could potentially be a legal issue too. People are funny....sometimes they'll try to hold YOU responsible for their not passing an exam. Be careful...check with the Cosmetology State Board. I am a licensed instructor here in GA. If I can be of any further help, let me know. I would really appreciate it if you could tell me...after 20 years I want to

It seems like I am along with many others looking for a refresher in Mass before I take my State Board exam. I have called many schools and they don't offer one. (which in my opinion they should $$$$) anyway, I am thinking possibly a former instructor to tutor or monitor a mock exam would help me greatly. Any feedback would be great.
