Can someone tell me how to obtain employment overseas? I have 15 years experience as a crane operator but I can't seem to get a company to give me a chance overseas. Does anyone have any suggestions or contacts that would be able to help me out?

No, but thanx for the information. I had no idea where to even start. My wife just told me that I could be making more if I just looked around a little. Don't mean to be greedy but do you know of anywhere else? You know what they say, the more you put out the better the chances.

Hi Everyone,

To work in Canada you will need to find an employer that is willing to hire you before you come to Canada. For most trades it is a long process that can take about six months +. But recently due to the high demand for crane operators in Canada, the Canadian government has sped up the process for crane operators. Now the process can take up to a month and half. Right now a crane operator in Western Canada earns anywhere from $60,000 to $120,000 a year. Most average at about $85,000-$90,000.

If anyone is interested in working in Canada they can send their resume to jobs@coastindustrialcanada.ca. We currently have a number of openings in Northern Alberta.

Thank you so much for the information and I am emailing my resume' as we speak. Sometimes you just need for someone to give you a chance. I hope I can get hired for me and my family's sake. The "gangs" are getting worse in our town and I need to get my 13 yr old son out before they get hold of him.

You know the old saying, "Its not what you know but who you know." There are so many jobs out there for crane operators but alot of them they want you to have offshore experience, but as I have stated before how do you get the offshore experience if no one will give you a chance.

Most of us are logged onto this site because we are looking for a better job as heavy equipment operators. Is there someone out there that can help us? We keep saying that we have experience in some shape, form or fashion but no one will tell us how to go about getting all the requirements we need so we can apply to jobs over in Saudi Arabia. It is alot of good workers out there that are being over looked because @ this time we don't have the necessary paper work to move forward. I have been up and down the internet looking for answers. How do we go about getting the experience to work over seas if no one will give us a chance?

In order to wok in Canada, you have to fill out this form (www.tradesecrets.gov.ab.ca/forms_publications/forms/pdf/appl_qual_cert.pdf#page=14). This form is to certify an operators experience. You must have 6750hrs and 54 months of hands on experience in order to be accepted. The cost of this application is $450cdn. Once this application is accepted and passed, the processing time for a work permit in Canada for an operator is 5 days. It’s not possible to work in Canada unless you have passed this assessment.

My name is Gary Wiggins. I have been working offshore in the oil field industry now for a little over 2 years.
I just obtained my Able Seaman certication through the US Coast Guard and I also have a MMD card through them as well.
I also hold a number of other certifcations that are to long to list but are require by my job or the US Coast Guard.
I have been operating a crane now for about 3 years. I hold a class "A" crane operators certification that complys with
API RP 2D 5th Edition required by the MMS & USCG for crane operations at sea. My certification is rated for 175 tons with
no restrictions other than wearing glasses. My history of operating
cranes has been very successful with no incidents or accidents. The cranes that I have been operating have been
Energy Cranes and cranes manufactured by EBI. The Energy crane is 175 ton with a lattice boom of 110 feet. The
EBI crane was a 60 ton with a box boom. My work offshore has been on lift boats that look like a barge that raises
out of the water on 3 legs that jack down to the bottom sea bed. Sometimes we might be out of the water as for as
100 feet. The crane would then load and back-load off the barge or boat to the supply boats that service us with equipment
and crew members. Sometimes I might make a lift as much as 40 tons. I hope this helps you understand what I can do and I
look forward to hearing from you. My email address is gwiggs44@yaho.com Thank you

don't get discouraged but you should get the CDL asap unless it is a 100 ton or above most companies won't provide an oiler,,so you have to drive the thing, set it up,run it and in most cases take care of minor repairs....
