Its not as bad as some say. The insurance is 165.00 a month for a single person and 500.00 a month for a faimly it is through Aetna insurance.KBR is downsizing but they have always supported the army .The pay is what you sign on your contract before you ever come over here so if there is a problem with the money they should read the contract that they signed. It is pretty safe here now.If interested go to KBR JOBS.COM for information look under LOCAP or east asia .GOOD LUCK

Ok, first things first. My brother works for KBR in Iraq and has for over 5 yrs and talks highly of them. But thats one mans opinion so i encourage any research you can do on your own. The second thing i want to address is heavy equipment schools, please dont lump them all together. I have been in the construction industry for 24 yrs and previously had the same experience with so called grads from heavy equipment schools. So, when the opportunity arose for me to develop and teach a program for heavy equipment operators i took a pay cut and jumped in. I understood that there was a need for training with the decrease of farms and small towns( where most of our operaters came from) and the influx of technical equipment such as sonic systems and GPS systems.
The program i teach is 9 months long and only costs 4000.00. The students are taught safety, site layout, heavy equipment operations, and basic pipe laying. By the end of the program they can stake a street with curbs, or a highway with ditches, building pads, manhole and pipes, and various bld sites. The also have appx 45o hrs of equipment operating from skidsteer to excavator, motorgraders, dozers, rollers, and many other pieces. along with this they receive certificates in several courses, osha 30 hr card, trench safety competant person certificate, confined sspace certificate, and class B cdl. After the stake the pipeline and rodways, they then learn to cut them. They learn productivity, safety, and how to think ahead and only move dirt once if possible. I can not begin to put them in every scenario they will face in the industry but i can prepare them for it by teaching hazard awareness and the vision they get from learning surveying. You can be really good on a machine but if you cant see the finished product in your mind, how productive are you? Im on a mission to change the perception of graduates of Heavy Equipment Schools and im doing it one class at a time and this is my 2nd year. Thanks

KBR is still hiring even though they are downsizing. The website should show all skilled trades jobs. To get a recruiter you need to just keep plugging along.

I have been an equipment operator with KBR since Jan 05. The job, seperation, is hard on family life. The pay is good, tax free up to around 84,000. I do not know of any one that starts at 140k like a previous post stated, unless it is manager level then possibly.

I would suggest getting a resume together and keep posting to jobs on kbrjobs website. Just keep at it.

Also try Fluor, Dyncorp, URS, PAE Group, ITT Systems, these are to just name a few contractors over here. Each company has varied job fields.

URS...An operator in Iraq or some other country. I know URS comes and inspects our environmental sites, i.e. burn pits, incinerators and waste transfers. I have never seen someone that was an operator for them. That would be interesting information right there.

Any idea how to apply for an operator position. I searched their site and did not come across much. URS would be nice company to work for in the US or abroad.

Gentlemen,
I,m trying to get ahold of a recruiter to work overseas. Anyone with any information or contacts they could send my way I'd be very grateful. I'm currently working for a small company driving a semi over the road(flat-deck) trailers. I had 21 years in a machine shop (laid-off) prior to that. I'm a former Marine with lots of security experience. I have a heavy equipment certificate with HAZWOPER certification and experience here and there running heavy equipment. Grew up on a ranch raising cattle and horses, and even know how to shoe horses and turn horseshoes and iron in a forge. Any help to make contacts would be appreciated.
Thank - you in advance!
Scott

They don't show much to the general public,,, but if you go ahead and fill out their online application, they will create an account for you,, whereas they will then see you for position openings.

probably take a week or so and they will send you a password for your account.

I have a manager that i worked with that got me in for "in house" hiring opportunities. I did get a call last summer for local work, but I was on a "mandatory" (according to my wife) way out camping trip, and had no signal. I told her they would be calling..... women just don't get it..

anyway, he said he would call back,,, no hear from again...

I wish i could send in your resume' for you ,, but i have hit my limit with referrals....

my unemployment should get me through the next year and my va disability benefit will be going up,, so, i think i'm just not going to worry about it.... especially since my wife won't shut up.. the more she bitches,, the less i do,, because in the end it is never enough for her anyway...... ha ha
good luck
good luck

Suzzie, If your hubby goes in as a truck driver he will most likely be in convoys traveling throughout Iraq, even thru high risk areas. Unarmed but will have PPE and his vehicle is uparmored. He will have military escorts at all times. If it's a driving job on base then it is a lot safer. A lot of things can happen outside the wire. Sorry to scare you but it's fact. I used to escort KBR convoys.

In my opinion, if he wants to go as a truck driver or any position indiginous(sp) to transportation, I would let him do so. Willing to go to a war zone and work is already accepting the risk of danger. You can be outside the wire and be subjected to small arms fire and eid's. Staying inside the wire there is always a chance of mortar and rockets as well. The pay is great for what most jobs are in comparison to stateside jobs. The key issue is the will to accept risk.
I'm willing and waiting in line for employment as well. ....again..this is my opinion.

Also, the way I saw it, I'd rather get hit outside the wire with my PPE on and inside an uparmored vehicle than to get hit by a mortar round inside the wire with no PPE on at all.
IMO

Neither of your husbands will probably go to Iraq, they will more than likely come to Afghanistan. KBR will change where they are going. I was going to Iraq on 4 different occasions, never made it, they kept changing it back to Afghanistan. As far as information about the company, if I told you, he wouldn't come. All I can say is, thank god KBR lost the contract.

I graduated from a heavey equipment school in 2003 and I couldn't find anybody to hire me local, and I couldn't afford to work out of state. But i'm willing to work out of country. i'm not saying i'm very smart, but what i am saying is this; i've read alot of these forums and there is a lot of good information here, they tell you the sites to go to to apply, what to check out and still a lot of you people ask how to get work or beg someone to get you a job!!! get off your butts and do some reading and leg work yourself, quit expecting other people to do the work for you!!!

River Rat,

Not many employers read these blogs, so you don't have to sell yourself on them. Most of the postings from "requiters" that you see on here is links to some website that you have to pay or it is a scam. Take the information and post resumes on corporate websites. If you cannot write a good resume, pay the $100-$200 to have professional write it for you, it will be money well spent.

If you arent a big baby you can man up and deal with whatever situation you are presented with. I know people that have been in equipment operator jobs in iraq/afghanistan for 2 years and not had an issue. I myself have been in afghanistan almost 6 months now and I'm doing just fine

Ok, I guess that is why I work with guys and a few gals that have been here 4, 5 and some 6 years. If you wanted to be pampered go to mama's house. If you want to earn some money, sit down, shut up, and do your job.
