What do you enjoy most about being a home health aide? What do you dislike the most? Is it challenging? Are there many opportunities to learn and advance?

What keeps you at your job?

from the very start some 23 years ago I found the elderly population very interesting group of people. For me, while I went thru my paces as a HHA, I listened to their experiences in their life. My clients always loved to talk about them. I have learned many new things in my career with them. They also enjoyed some of my stories. Sometimes we had similar lifestyles and some very different! I have found that, for the most part sharing is like comfort food. They, the client relax and this makes my job easier and their's less stressful in the beginning! There has been very few times where the client is quiet, and it takes awhile to establish common ground! I have worke as a visiting HHA also in the private sector, and now working at a Senior Living community for the past 2 years. I admit it is a little different with all the trimmings of ease and total living in one buliding. There are over 200 people, single or married who join together at mealtimes in two shifts and other activities, much different that the days of one household at a time for me!
