Beth in Willisburg, Kentucky 55 months ago	Many home health service agencies provide free training which can lead to certification as a Home Health Aide (which is what I did). Also many nursing homes will provide you with free training that leads to state certification as a Nurse's Aide (I recommend you do this). Many agencies provide home healthcare for mentally and physically handicapped clients and often, they do not require any certification, just the ability to pass a background check, drug test, etc. You could start there; they usually offer extra hours if you want some overtime and provide on-the-job training to include American Red Cross CPR, First Aid, etc. Best wishes, - Was this comment helpful? Linda79 in Flint, Michigan 39 months ago	To find home health aide work you just need to network through family, friends etc. I find it much nicer to work for myself thru contacts or ads in paper. If so how long would I need to do home health aide work. I am not a certified hha, but I have located information that would allow me to become certified in my area. I have some experience with taking care of elders and definitely want to work in this area, but more along the lines of visiting nurses. Please any assistance would be greatly appreciated. Linda79 in Flint, Michigan 38 months ago	Hi Marie I do not have a license for hha. In fact I had a television background setting up shoots for tv in Phoenix. I am now older and moved back to Michigan because of elder mother. As far a you becoming a visiting nurse I believe you have to attend school and graduate from nursing school. The elderly lady I was taking care of fell and broke her pelvis she was on feeding tube and diabetic. The visiting nurse gave us instructions on how to take care of her. Lisa That is a great you took coures to be cna. With you felony record you could work for yourself in private sector. I have been taking care of my mother this year since she was diagnosed with lung cancer and had complications with surgery. She is currently undergoing chemotherapy and will need radiation once her chemo is complete. In 2003, I was diagnosed with a rare illness and both my mother and I have had visiting nurses and find that to be a personally rewarding career as well as home health care. I will begin with taking a certification course for a hha and take it from there and look into nursing courses. I appreciate any feedback you are willing to supply me with, Thank You again. I did work for a heath agency here in Flint 2 years ago. I had a cell phone and they use to send me from one job to another all day long. There was a couple of days I put a 100 miles on my car. The pay was low $8 and didn't pay for gas. The rewards were great in the since I got to meet alot of wonderful people. I lady I helped was a total paraplegic at 35 years old. I use to take her movies from library for her to watch. It makes you so thank full for your own life and the ablity to take care of your self. Some of these companies are self serving and all about the money unfortunatly. For me it is the love of being able to help others who need it. Good Luck in what you Decide.
