Do some companies pay a lot more for this position than others? What does a top earner make in this field? What skills should you learn to increase your salary? |

You will need to obtain your bachelor degree in HVAC-R engineering. Check out Ferris State University there website is ferris.edu. Look at there Bachelor degree program in HVAC, that will give you an idea. |

If would transfer later on be any trouble to a University for a Community College after receiving my AAS. What I mean is is there any other fields i need to pursue before transferring? No there wouldnt be any problem but i would meet with the 4 year university, because they require some classes that you need to have before you come to there school. |

When you get to the university, if you can learn to do energy modeling using DOE-2 or Energyplus...do it!!! |

I have the money and also the time but i just want to make sure if its worth it. if anyone has an idea how much a full time HVAC engineer can earn and also what type of jobs i can be looking at.? yes yes yes and yes. I got my associates degree in hvac technology from mott college in flint michigan. I was going to do the transfer to ferris for my four year degree but i ran into a old friend and he told me about a job doing controls for hvac. I thought it was a good oppurtunity, and it was but all i do is run conduit and do the installation of the hvac systems in a industrial setting at a chemical plant. BUTTT, the money isnt that great. I make 13.50 a hour and i work under the guys who went to ferris for there hvac degree and they are starting at 50,000 a year, and all they do is sit at there computer and design the schematics for the systems and check on the progress that we r making so they can meet there deadline and fire up the units. Bro, go to ferris its way worth it, im going back in the fall. Hope this helped ya a lil bit. |

As a HVAC tech I make over $50,000 a year, there is a lot of overtime with that, but my best year 2009 was $95,000 at $28 an hour. There were sales commissions and bonuses too to get there. Last year just $85,000. The sales were huge when the fed tax credit was going. I am getting a bachelors in Technical management from DeVry, if I had time I would go for engineering at a four year school. I started with an AAS in 2004, and now am the service manager at a family owned residential/light commercial company. I can't believe playmaker in michigan only makes 13.50 an hour, especially as an experienced and degreed controls person. Playmaker, you should move. |

BUT WOULD LIKE TO GO TO SCHOOL FOR AN HVAC ENGINEER PLEASE SEND ME SOME INFO. First go to college and receive an associates degree in hvac/r. Then decide from there if you wnt to go all the way for a bachelors or doctorate degree, good luck. I went to college with "a/c techs" and after the second semester 3/4 dropped out. The didn't have the brains to continue, even supervisors. HVAC/R Make around $75K/ year. |
