Do some companies pay a lot more for this position than others? What does a top earner make in this field? What skills should you learn to increase your salary? |

There are companies out there that are cutting commissions. A company that I used to work for cut the commissions from an average 9% to 4.5% across the board. We had superstars that were earning over $200k/yr, now they are earning half that. There is another company out there that routinely "adjusts" commissions so that the salesperson earns next to nothing. I worked for that particular company for four months. They required a cell phone but did not reimburse for business calls and required one to use their own car, paying .31/mile, which barely covered gas. All sales people drove 300 to 500 miles per day and made more money with mileage reimbursement that commissions due to the "adjustments". Management bonuses were based in part on branch profit, so there was incentive to take advantage of the sales force. If you are considering a sales position, ask questions, take notes, and get things in writing. |
