I've got a lot of valuable information here, one thing I would suggest for your portfolio is Sidengo. I also purchased a domain with my name and linked it to this site, it gives you the opportunity to show links to your work (perhaps you can do it in Slideshare). Also, I'm learning the software ID require (Captiva, Lectora) and follow Instructional Designers on Linkedin and Twitter. Hope this helps somehow, I know it's a long, tedious path...
