This company hires and fires hundreds of people after 1-3 weeks. DO NOT LEAVE A JOB or MOVE to work for her. The labor board was notified recently of this activity, and they told me of numerous reports, they are going to investigate this as well as discrimination. Please be careful. It is a complete and utter mess and the furniture is so tacky, she thinks she is a 'product designer' but she is actually senile. Yea, I did time there too. And I was fired on the spot for having a slow month of sales. She is not only unprofessional but is a total fraud, need I say any more? She cannot design her way out of a sack. Word on the street is that she has a liquidation sale sign posted and sent out post cards saying she is selling everything. Couldn't happen to a nicer guy- what goes around comes around.

Anyone who was fired from here should post it to warn people !!! A DISGRACE! Everyone is fired on the spot before one month...I hope karma gets her back...It would not surprise me if you were fired on Christmas eve!

I worked for Flack for 2 months. She did not operate the "up" system fairly, giving my "ups" to other sales associates. Basically, had there been enough work around for everyone, that may not have happened. Personally, I liked her, the economy is just not there. From her point of view, I cannot really blame her for keeping her decorators of many years busy, ensuring they had enough work rather than a newcomer who might not stay anyway. I thought all of the decorators were great.

Oh, let me assure you, Zanne, that in times of mass consumption she also hogged the ups for her pets. The only reason any other bodies were there was just to cover the floor in case one of the favorites was out on a call. You didn't miss out on jack.

Stick it out? I didn't have any work. It was given to the pets. My point was that there just wasn't a lot of work coming in, and I can see where Flack would give it to her pets, because if she didn't, they would probably have to leave. Also we had a conflict. I presented a handsome family room for a family with 3 teenage football players and a young labrador retriever and Flack wanted me to adorn the furnishings with tons of trim. The labrador would have loved that! I know because I have a lab. He used to cry for my silk Scalmandre pillows filled with down so he could chomp them up.

Wow! Somethings never change. Worked for that wretched witch for about two months back in the 90's when she operated stores in Atlanta. Same tricks; new town. Atlanta is filled w/decorators and designers who worked for her at one time or another and each has their own horror stories. Sorry to tell you guys but the state of Florida can't help you. I had a designer friend who was fired and went to the state employment board and when she sat down in the guy's office, he pulled out a file drawer full of complaints against Hilda. The whole damn drawer. He told her they couldn't help because she actually had the business incorporated in another state at the time. Whether true or not I don't know. But he said that my friend's story was pretty much Hilda's SOP. Long story short, beware of retail decorating jobs. They are all about the same. I know because I tried others before I gave up and went back to college and took a second major. Owners make all the money and you earn pennies!

Right after I posted I realized that the current economy may finally give Hilda her just desserts. Not even the wealthy are buying, so she can't be doing very well. Maybe Flack's Interiors will die. Only fitting considering the design careers she killed. In Atlanta, as long as she was in town, you didn't tell anyone you ever worked in one of her stores. You'd never get an interview w/anyone reputable. But then again this was just my experience. Take it for what it's worth.

I agree that the staff was nice, but she tells new people how utterly busy it is and pushes them to come on board....when it is your turn UP, she ignores you and gives your sales away. I warn against this, very unfair systems and practices. I am spiteful because she had me relocate...thanks for your response!

I saw her moving to the Downtown at the gardens, I am so upset with the whole thing. I am moving away!

I had a great 10 year career, and this loony woman jacked me up. I am now on Prozac but I know she will suffer someday....Moving on now, can't wait to get going again!

Lola, I'm sorry for you. I worked there for quite some time and did ok. Got along with everybody but was never one of the "pets" .....and I know Zanne was nice and fun!
I agree it's not always fair ( what is?). Flack's is very stressful and dysfunctional, but it's not worth wasting any time thinking about it or, like some people, taking prozac or xanax. Just relax, be happy ( without the drugs) and trust in Kharma. I have no problem seeing her new store. You only hurt yourself with your anger. Good luck for the future.

Thanks for much for understanding. I saw the new place today downtown at the Gardens (went to see a movie!!) Depressing that she is still in business...she was looking at opening a place in Houston when I was there! I am going to relocate again and hope I can move on and forget this horrible experience! I don't know why the employment office cannot take these complaints forward - there has to be a way but I do know that she has 3 corps., Hilda Flack Interiors, Hilda Flack Designs filed in May 2009 and Hilda Flack Accessories (her original designs - yeah right) and they are under a Foreign Limited Liability Corps. meaning she is operating these corps. listed above and her store from her original corp. "Carriage House" in Atlanta or Memphis. Go on Sunbiz.com and check it out.

I have been researching if there was any bankruptsy or such as to why she moved out of the RCA location and then started another corp. in May 2009. She is running from something. What goes around comes around. I do agree with all of you that it is taking way too long for it to get her.

You all know what they used to say up in 'Lanta? You can take the girl out of the country but you can't take the country out of the girl. Same goes for an adams apple.

I'm new to interior decorating. I retired from the transportation industry and decided to take a course in interior decorating. I love it. I have a good eye for design. My question is this...How do I get some good experience either as an intern for someone or a part time employee? I live in Florida and would love to start my own business just working part time. This is all just for fun. Someone else told me about Hilda Flak and I'm not wanting to go there, but I do need to have someone in the Ft. Pierce/Vero Beach/Port St. Lucie areas take me under their wing so to speak and help me to learn to do this as a profession..even if it is just a hobby for me. I don't expect to make a lot of money. I'd just like to build a nice portfolio of jobs I've either done myself or assisted in. I'm all about making me happy. Thanks for your imput.

This is all very interesting...sounds like a terrible design atmosphere!!
I have heard that a few of her previous employees/managers have moved back to Atlanta, Georgia with their own design firm. Does anyone from above know anything about them and if their work ethic is the same as Ms. Flack?

Susan is good as gold in character and work. I am a Florida licensed interior designer. No comment about anyone other than she who may have moved back to Atlanta.
